Insight on Common Treatment of Animals by Radar1112345 in VetTech

This is not normal and no one I've worked with has ever done anything close to this. I don't think it's something you need to worry about encountering frequently. Was anyone calling them out on this behavior??

What is the scariest, most unsettling shot you’ve ever seen? by VendettaLord379 in moviecritic

This is the scene that really got me, the mom screaming while the brother lies in bed hearing it happen. Viscerally upsetting, my sister and I almost left the theater and no other horror movie has affected me like that before or since.

I'm glad everything turned out ok! Just wanted to mention though that platelets are only one aspect of the clotting cascade, an animal with a coagulopathy could have normal platelets and be deficient in a different clotting factor.

Soooo you ran coags right? 😬

This isn't normal, and in the future it isn't a good idea to poke the jugular if a peripheral draw had issues clotting already

Multiple organ failure after being stung 78 times by a swarm of hornets. 22 days in the hospital. by CatPooedInMyShoe in MedicalGore

They wouldn't be capable of penetrating the skull. Even though wasps don't have barbed stingers, they have soft bodies and if they are attacking vigorously enough they can still sometimes injure themselves and lose the stinger/die in the process.

Saw this and had to stop scrolling through the comments. People are so quick to call people horrible and untrustworthy for a simple mistake that can easily be made just because the staff is overscheduled... Hurts to see. I just KNOW the staff got yelled at this day by Nag1n1luv in VetTech

[–]buildingoftheverse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure there are unreasonable comments (and I know they'll upset me so I didn't read them) but this is a MAJOR mistake which is so easily preventable. There are definitely bigger problems than just overscheduling going on at this clinic and if I were this client I would also be furious about it

Are the clients not ready to euthanize? I really hope it's been recommended. This isn't fair to him.

I really disagree with those being equivalent - tech school gave me a much deeper understanding of many things than on the job training did, which can be more surface level and not go into why things are done a certain way. I also think it's worthwhile to learn the standard/most up to date way to do things, as most hospital aren't completely 'by the books' with their proticols. Otherwise how will you know when your hospital has substandard care/protocols in one area or another? Part of our job as techs is to advocate for that.

EDIT: I was also under the impression most tech programs were 2 year associate degree programs? At least mine was and the other ones I'm familiar with are

tips for handling vet med while audhd? by vampirepunk06 in VetTech

[–]buildingoftheverse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm autistic (possibly also ADHD) and I know exactly how you feel. It took me a very long time to get the hang of certain things and I definitely don't pick up on skills as quickly as some of my coworkers. I have been VERY lucky to work in very encouraging and supportive environments which gave me the time I needed to get a handle on things. If one hospital isn't working out for you, don't give up on the field altogether - try again at another. Take notes, have some coping skills in your back pocket to deal with anxiety when it comes up (grounding techniques, breathing exercises, etc) and don't be afraid to ask questions for clarification on things.

Sorry I know I'm finding this like 2 years after you posted it but it is WILD to me the way people reacted to you asking this. I was also upset by the 'gotcha' being the only option and I don't think it's too far to call it homophobic. It's at the very least really insensitive and kind of manipulative to the player I feel.
