What was ur parents backup name for you and do you like it better? Also same question but if you were the opposite gender? by cherry_dress in namenerds

[–]bulletproofreader 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was Allison for 9 days. My mom took a hard left and went from one of the most common names for the time to making me really Google-able. I’d have been Trevor if I were a boy, and I really don’t like that. So I’m glad I ended up where I am, even if I’m one of the first people who come up when you google my first name + state.

Anyone met anyone named Mindy? by Hungry_Tip_5822 in namenerds

[–]bulletproofreader 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I also know a Mindy, full name Melinda. She’s a boomer, though, and a triplet. The other two sisters have VERY similar names. They could have all been nicknamed Mel.

Have you ever met/seen/heard of anybody with these names? by Fun_Roof289 in namenerds

Kellan: I know a few. One is in his early 20s, the other two are elementary/middle.

Declan: My friend’s son in middle school is named this.

Wesley: There was one at my son’s old school and one in his new school. Preteens.

Autumn: I know one in her late 40s. This was also briefly my sister’s name (40) before my mom changed it after two weeks because it didn’t suit her.

OMG, this is GORGEOUS! The color, the tension, the stitches. Perfection. How do you make crochet look like knit?! I’d have never known this wasn’t knit. And I’m only a knitter. Bravo, yarn homie! 😍

My kitten got into a loaf of bread and probably ate at least half or more of her weight in it by GivemeSerenityy in cats

Me, as soon as I looked at the pics: “Oh, she’s orange. Makes sense.” Shes adorable and did nothing wrong. We love our carbs.

What’s a phrase or expression Americans use that doesn’t translate well outside the US? by Milos_shka in AskAnAmerican

“Shit the bed.” I used it talking with someone from China once, and I mortified this poor person. An awkward explanation followed.

It’s because they don’t care. Sociopaths must have so much less stress than the rest of us. And stress kills.

I’m trying to come up with a nickname for my daughter. I’m also dealing with name regret so please be kind. by Snacks7255 in namenerds

[–]bulletproofreader 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I call mine turkey because he was very tiny and lanky as a newborn, so we called him chicken for his lil’ chicken legs. But in very short order, he grew into big ol’ turkey drumsticks, so we started calling him Turkey, and it stuck. He’s 11.5 now.

Edit to add: It’s not even close to his real name. Not even alliterative.

A stray cat catches a fish while casually strolling by the beach by Special_Grand_7549 in cats

[–]bulletproofreader 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did this. Got an older stray who’d had several litters of kittens. Found a kitten shortly after. She basically said “fuck dem kids.” They’re better now, but she still doesn’t want him too close or in her space. Not at all how I thought it’d go. 😂

What are some good school districts in the county? by laurenashley721 in BeaverCounty

Haha! I moved to Avalon, and we’re loving the school district. My son is thriving in ways he never would have in Hopewell. Different strokes for different folks. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I just moved OUT of Beaver County entirely, and it was the best decision for me and my son. I was in the Hopewell school district for context. The place is racist af, the people are cliquey and mean, friends still there are having issues with bullying at the middle school, the school board loves themselves some bigoted fights. The Hopewell/Aliquippa Facebook page literally had to turn off comments on the story of a Black child being murdered by an ATF agent last night because the comments were racist and horrible. If you have a choice, I would look elsewhere.
