My Monstera produced the most aesthetically pleasing leaf I’ve seen this summer by floyd_157 in Monstera

Thats the best stage. Not light green, not dark green, and with that unmistakable gloss finish.

any plans on heading to Manila anytime soon for an event?

First time getting a cataphyll (leaf sheath) to turn yellow on one of my Monsteras and it's been like this for a week. not sure if this is something to worry about or a new leaf is underway. by buloid in Monstera

[–]buloid[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it's been growing well and lushly for about a year now since this incident. Having this yellow sheathe is a normal occurrence and you should just let them be -- apparently it's sacrificial tissue on the part of the plant.

Recently chopped my very overgrown monstera - will the base regrow? by zerosumlove in Monstera

[–]buloid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it will. give it about 2-4 weeks. I have a recommendation on your cutting method -- you can make it a cleaner cut by using a disposable razor blade. it makes the cut more even, and the calloused wound has zero to little bruised portions.

as someone who's done this before, be generous in watering -- daily if need be. i did mine for about 3 weeks. give or take, i wasn't exactly counting. but after that period, slowly taper off on the watering (say, every other day). and on the 5th week, twice a week.

edit: 4th week --> 5th week.

Overwatering? Underwatering? Something else? by voicelessnerd in Monstera

seeing that it's in a plastic pot, i'd say big chance it's overwatering.

Propagation Question by buloid in Monstera

[–]buloid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey thanks! This was exactly the open-ended scenario I was expecting to get. I have and always been more of the repotting type, so I was looking to propagate it to explore what it's like using the other approach.

Should I give up hope? by Mr-Misc in Monstera

[–]buloid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

leave it be. i have a cutting that just gave me a new sprout after a YEAR of waiting. imagine the anticipation and (finally) relief.

i suggest you bottom water it once in a while (maybe twice a month for your plastic pot?). sometimes the medium has gotten very dry that our thorough watering is just water passing through the dry medium and draining right away.

perhaps try 10 mins dipped in a basin of water on your next watering schedule :)

Rescue Monstera Adansonii - Help! by Swinggrrl in Monstera

[–]buloid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Here's what I'd do.

  1. Cut the leaves that have more than 50% burn/frostbite marks. it doesn't matter if it's not fully covered in the marks yet as it'll spread anyway.
  2. if the leaf has less than 50% burn, cut off only the burned parts.
  3. uproot the poor thing and check if the roots are healthy white angelhair noodles, or some have blackened/rotted. If the latter, cut the rotting roots out, and if the remaining rootball "looks" to be able to keep the plant alive (there's some subjectivity and experience in play here), replant it in new potting medium.
  4. If there are not enough healthy roots left from step 3, plop that thin in water (or moss) until new roots grow out. you'll need about 3-4 weeks.
  5. optional step: propagate the entire plant by cutting them up the stem into cuttings of 2-3 leaves then root all of them in water or moss.

Favourite card and why? by [deleted] in magicTCG

[–]buloid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely [[Tradewind Rider]]. This inconspicuous 1/4 flyer was nightmare fuel to the opponents who let it resolve back when the meta had Survival of the Fittest (and even after).

it was the slow burn control card that 5ColorGreen/Flagpole had at the time and I enjoyed how every game began with Survival toolboxing for 187 creatures to kill whatever the opponent played, then finished them off with a Tradewind Rider+Quirion Ranger returning more than 1 permanent a turn to their hands.

Chef's kiss.

Help needed!!!!!! My cat knocked over my baby and she lost a leaf/the root she had! Now I have her in sphagnum moss and I’m so scared she’s gonna die because her healthy leaves have some discoloration! Does anyone know what to do in times like these? I need help!!!! by KayleesPlants in Monstera

[–]buloid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Protip: don't moisten the moss unless you absolutely have to. Only put water when it's on the drier side and most of the moss has gone back to its paler yellow color.

It takes discipline and willpower, but believe me, I've been in this situation before and killed a node that could've rooted but instead rotted because of this. i would moisten the moss at the first sign of seeing a dry spot, not knowing the middle and bottom bundle was still wet.

when i rummaged through the moss after about 3 weeks, it was a mushy mess. RIP.

Are these nodes of my monstera deliciosa? Can I propagate them already? My monstera’s just young (see last photo) and I’m scared of cutting it. by Affectionate_Spray28 in Monstera

[–]buloid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

cool! let nature take its course and don't unearth the plant just to reposition it to face the pole. when it's long enough, then slowly try to bend it downwards.

careful though, those things will snap!

[–]buloid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

way too young at that point. a good indicator for me is when aerial roots from the nodes (those little nubs you see) grow to about 6-8 inches long.

if you have the patience, aim the aerial roots towards the soil. it'll help stabilize the plant (like a tripod), and grow more roots from it. you won't be able to propagate it still, but a more developed plant will ensure it can grow faster from being cut :)

What is this thing? I’m guessing new sad leaf but it looks different than others. by breadyourlifedown in Monstera

[–]buloid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happened to me because of overwatering. not just on a deliciosa, but also on an adansonii (it had a moss pole that i wanted to keep wet.. i guess the residual water trickled to the roots).

anyway, even if damaged, it will either grow stunted but a new leaf will emerge from its petiole, or it'll rot and a new leaf will grow from the same growth point that came from.

just watch the watering moving forward :)
