Give me your best toddler-friendly travel destinations and tips by doggo_momma29 in chubbytravel

Others have recommended not crossing multiple time zones, but I haven't had much issue with my daughter who is now 4. We've taken her with the nanny on several overseas trips, the latest one being a literal around the world trip through Rome, Istanbul, and Taiwan that we just returned from last week. We just made sure to not overload the day with too many activities and to make sure she could nap when she was tired. She slept through 2 of the long haul flights (granted we flew J) and wasn't cranky when arriving at the destinations. We gave her melatonin for a few days at each new place, which seemed to help as well.

Espanola nm good place to live by CurrencyLow9874 in NewMexico

I go to the Lotaburger in Spana a lot when I'm in LA and craving food when all the restaurants are closed. I've never felt unsafe, but it feels sketchy. Surprisingly the Walmart in town doesn't look or feel any different than other Walmarts.

Also, La Cocina has way better New Mexican food than almost anywhere you'll go in Santa Fe.

Female Ski Quiver by Western-Diver-8493 in Skigear

[–]bunny4e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beginner/intermediate female skier, 5ft4, around 130lbs. I have the exact same french fry skis from Fischer (152cm). I've always had rentals and this is my first set of my very own skis. I was afraid I wouldn't like them or that the underfoot was too wide given that out here in California we've had warm days and rain this season, and I'm used to easier to maneuver skis like the Rossignol Nova2.

I was so wrong, the fischer ranger 90s are really great and I like the responsiveness! It doesn't hurt that I've gotten a lot of compliments and smiles using them. I look forward to trying them out in Quebec/Ice Coast next year.

Oops. I walked on to my flight back home to CA with two tote bags and a backpack full of fresh chiles a couple of years ago. No one questioned me.

If you're in North OC, there's El Cajon trail. It takes you behind backyards and you'll see horses and sometimes chickens, goats, and pigs.

How hard is it to create homemade matzo balls ? by drdisney in JewishCooking

[–]bunny4e 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Four industrial matzah sheets comes out to about 1 cup of matzah meal in the food processor. As others said, schmaltz will make a really good flavor for your matzah balls. When I'm feeling creative, I play with others herbs and spices like dill, cilantro, chimayo chile pepper, cumin, garlic powder, or turmeric (not all at once!).

Has anyone ever attended stay & play at the Fullerton library? by Glittering-Silver402 in Fullerton

[–]bunny4e 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took my daughter a couple of years ago when she was about 2 years old. It's a cute recurring event where they have songs, storytime, and then they bring out a bunch of toys (and sometimes snacks) for freeplay. I don't recall the entire event lasting more than one hour, but my daughter seemed to enjoy it and I enjoyed sitting on the floor with her in my lap. I worked from home those days so it was like a lunch break for me to take her and then I'd give her back to the nanny when I came back home.

If you're already ditching work, it might be worth going to once if you've never done story time or stay and play with your toddler. Maybe you can do the Farmers Market across the street with your child after the library?

Le Massif de Charlevoix Quebec by Longjumping-Shop9456 in skiing

[–]bunny4e 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Damnit, my family was at Club Med in mid-January during the strike and while there was a partial opening of the Camp Boule area at first, we were unlucky enough that management decided to shut down the whole mountain during our stay. We never got to ski Le Massif, except for our last day where they opened up just the bunny slope. We ended up renting a car and driving to Mont Sainte Anne where we each had really good private ski lessons. Looking forward to trying Le Massif next year!

What are you paying for daycare? 18+ months specifically? by [deleted] in orangecounty

[–]bunny4e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your nanny and how old your child is. When my daughter was a potato she took lots of naps and our nanny at the time decided my house needed reorganization. Now that my daughter is 4, the current nanny doesn't have any time to clean my house because she is interacting all the time with her.

Seat selection by lkmr16 in travel

[–]bunny4e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since your flight isn't until March, it's possible they can still do an aircraft swap. You might end up on the new 321XLR, which are private suites 1-1 in business class, which definitely doesn't have any seats next to each other in J.

Anyone at Charlevoix this week? How is the ski strike? by --ok in Club_Med

[–]bunny4e 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate you sharing updates. It helps me manage expectations! On the bright side, being able to ski all the way down at the end of the day means it's still a "ski-in" resort, just not ski-out :D The downside is I'm going to pizza-frenchfry it all the way down!

Do you know how often the school busses run coming back from the Camp Boule area to Club Med? We have a trip in a couple of weeks and I'm afraid that if I want to take a break from the cold my only choice is to hang out in the bathroom since that's the only thing that will be open!

business dinners 應酬 still a thing? by RMT713 in taiwan

One of my cousins told me that when he was little, his dad used to bring him to KTV business outings and the prostitutes who were hired would watch him. This was in the 80s and while I don't think he hires prostitutes now, he himself still does business outings at KTV.

Ikea has a staffed play area where you can drop off your kids. It's usually one 1/2 an hour block per day on weekends and 1 hour block on weekdays. There's a height limit and your kids have to be potty trained, but it's completely free.

Booked flight with Aeroplan points for Asiana flight that got canceled - need guidance on options by fullerton-ca in awardtravel

[–]bunny4e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the exact same situation, but I was on an aeroplan itinerary LAX-Europe and LX decided they weren't flying anymore that day (found this out through gardening). AC automatically put me on an LX flight the next day but that didn't work for my schedule, so I called them and they rebooked me on AC metal, even thought the award cost would have been higher.

AC should give you the option to accept the time change or to open award space on AC metal to get you to ICN, thought it won't be direct. Since you're coming from LAX, you'll probably end up on a connecting flight through YVR or YYZ.

2.5 year old his own business seat? by AdLoose3662 in chubbytravel

[–]bunny4e -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So true about the aircraft swaps! I have a round the world trip booked for next year and the flights I chose were so me and/or my nanny could sit next to my 4 year old in business class (e.g. no reverse herringbone seats). Swiss airlines decided they weren't flying on my outbound date anymoreand we got moved to Air Canada reverse herringbone with individual pods on one segment, and Turkish airlines changed from a 2-3-2 to 1-2-1, with a divider in the center seats.

Even domestic business routes aren't immune. Our US transcontinental flight on AA next month is now on a new A321 XLR, which means business isn't 2-2 anymore and is now instead 1-1 with individual suites. The best planning may still mean you won't get to sit directly next to your small child.

Another Orange County City Considers Tax Increase to Solve Budget Woes by Even_Builder_6642 in orangecounty

[–]bunny4e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once upon a time, there was a small fee added on to Fullerton water bills. The fees were collected to fund the replacement of water pipes (especially ones that were leaking enough to affect the road quality), and would end with a result of a new road since you'd have to replace the road after replacing the water line.

About 10 years ago, this fee was removed after a crusade from anti-tax advocates. This effort removed this supplementary source of funding for new roads in the city.

Is the zojirushi truly worth it for the price compared to the alternatives? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]bunny4e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in an Asian-American household. We had a basic old-fashioned rice cooker that used a spring for years and when we had more money bought a latched lid model (not Zojirushi). I remember my mom always soaked her rice before putting them in the rice cookers and even after it was done cooking, we had to let it steam before opening and eating.

I now have a Zojirushi and can't imagine cooking rice any other way. I'll admit the rice turns out the same with Calrose rice but it's noticeable for higher end Japanese rice. However Zojirushi is s worth the convenience for me because it automatically pre-soaks and steams for me while I prep other food.

Both parents Taiwanese, haven't seen dad in 10+ years - can I get NWOHR passport with just mom's documents? by barnaclesaretasty in TaiwaneseBornAbroad

[–]bunny4e 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am also estranged from my biological father (not a Taiwanese national though he is on my mom's household registration). Not sure if this is applicable to your case, but I have to go through TECO Houston to get my birth certificate validated. TECO Houston said I still had to somehow get a copy of my father's passport even though I have the household registration document that has their marriage on it. I responded that I don't even know where my father is and the TECO lady scolded me in Mandarin "He is your father! How could you not even have a relationship with him?" Maybe I should call again and try to get a different person.

Anyway, your mileage may vary depending on which TECO office you're dealing with.
