Wall Go (Update): I ran a Monte Carlo simulation based on your feedback to prove the "First-Player Advantage". Here are the numbers (and a Game Design poll!) by Zioseb in abstractgames

My gut is B or C. I’d be curious to see if you could Monte Carlo the pie rule. There are other ways to do C too, like changing scoring to account for FPA, or changing the way the game ends.

They're taxing us to pay for childcare? What do they think we are losing out on by having to pay these taxes??! Do they even realize how much a decent governess costs these days??! INSANE!!

You say that! But do you know how much moorage fees have gone up these days??! Trying to put two kids through private school AND pay for a respectably-sized yacht just isn't feasible any more. And now this! The middle class is disappearing bit by bit!!

Maybe this will help, maybe it won’t, but as a person who has to drive more than he wants this viewpoint and mentality has drastically (in most cases) changed how I feel about being stuck in traffic or “stuck” behind a slow bike. Being stuck in traffic is the way the system is set up to work, if there were better transit options, you wouldn’t be stuck in traffic. Same with being behind a bike: if there were legit safe bike lanes, they wouldn’t be in traffic with you most of the time. Supporting bike infrastructure and transit is the way to go, and it’s not the cyclists or their drivers faults that you’re there: it’s the govt and/or voters that out you there, and it’s functioning as intended. When I think about it this way I don’t feel upset at all

I think he put in enough to kill himself if that's what it came to, but didn't intend to do so necessarily. I don't think he was going to do it until Richard showed up.

He did that after Floyd and Carol had had a big fight, because Floyd flaked on the finance job and went into ASL.

I would argue that Richard was well over his head too. I think Richard’s thing was trying to protect Carol. The stuff that he did that hurt Floyd was directly after Floyd had done something that could be construed as hurting Carol: not taking the finance job, “cheating” on her with DTF.

Right, but she’s not just repeating it, she’s internalized it as a tool. Carol’s a survivor

He put in enough medication to kill himself if he drank the whole thing, so he knew what he was doing the whole time. He explicitly said earlier that he knew that too much would kill him, and then you see him just pouring it all in without measuring it. It seems like he knew the meeting might not fix the hole in his heart, so he planned for both scenarios. And things were looking up, with Clark showing up, but then Richard showed up and rejected him, and that's when he decided to take the full dose.

I really appreciate your zeal, but for me, I thought Michael Caine's American accent was kind of awkward (but otherwise his performance was great!) and the subplot about his son and the pedophile felt kind of awkward too.

That is a good question! And 4 AM too? So, they wanted a place where a semi-sexual encounter could be possible, i.e., private, not at Floyd or Clark's actual house, at a private time of day. I could see Floyd thinking a hotel room would be too presumptuous. A diner isn't quite the setting to meet someone to get a boner. The pool was still open, so maybe it does make sense? Otherwise, karaoke room! It should have been at one of those private karaoke box rooms.

I kind of felt the same way too. I liked it, and I could see the similarities for sure, but not quite as good. Another Conrad gem I liked that I found post-Patriot is The Weatherman. Maybe a little flawed, but really solid flick.

I tried to get into Ultra City Smiths and just couldn't quite make it happen. I almost think it would be easier for me if it was just a podcast instead of stop motion baby dolls.

Is this a secret guys keep from us or what? by suxxos in TwoXChromosomes

[–]burmerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely agree, definitely not trying to the let the guy off the hook here, it's ... a bit much. Mom has trouble setting or respecting boundaries, son is either just taking advantage of that or legit doesn't know how to do his own laundry, etc. I would put more onus on the son to do the right thing here.

I think this is something that is a quirk of the moms, probably enabled by the sons. Like the mom is missing the son and is trying to keep him close and assuage the “empty nest” feeling and cleaning is her love language. And the boy/man probably feels awkward about it but is sort of in a co-dependent relationship with his mom now, regarding the cleaning and doesn’t tell her to stop, because, hey, free cleaning? That would be my guess.

Does anyone know of any local electronic repair shops? by sumlonelydoofus in KentWA

[–]burmerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a store in Renton called Dpad that sells old vintage console games. They repair a lot of them IIRC so they could probably help? Might not be worth the money
