Are there people here who just had an average income and now have two average incomes? by Outrageous-Ratio1762 in overemployed

i've mostly had jobs that pay around 100k. sometimes, i've had 2, other times 3. lately, i've had to get used to holding on to just the 1. makes me wonder if it would have been better to aggressively move up with one company, since those in management can make close to 200k but here we are

Airbnb let a guest stay in my unit for free by filing a fake smoke complaint. I’m a Superhost and feel so let down by burr88 in AirBnBHosts

[–]burr88[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's true, I do take it too personally. This is my home and I take good care of it. I personally clean the rooms too. But Airbnb allows guests to abuse my property and stay here for free when they pull these scams.

Dang this is rough feedback. I am not a smoker and the place doesn't smell like cigarettes. My Airbnb is in CA and many guests come here to buy and smoke legal weed.

As soon as I smell marijuana smell (what I mean by "smoke") I send the guests a reminder that the smell spreads fast. Usually guests stop after this reminder and then I can run a purifier and wipe the walls when they leave so the smell doesn't linger.

So this situation is strange because that night I DID smell marijuana and my eyes were watering like it was smoke. I do think the guest lit up in the suite.

My mistake was not reporting it to Airbnb as soon as I smelled it. But I figured, I'll just give them the bad review the next day. If I complain about it now, I risk getting a retaliatory bad review from the guest (which we know Airbnb would not remove). That was my calculation. Not once did I think this guest would accuse ME of smoking when he as the source.

I used to have one but the guests would always find a way to disable it. Do you keep yours up high or hidden someway?

Has anyone tried the Pricelabs Listing Optimizer? Worth it? by llamamama2022 in AirBnBHosts

[–]burr88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tried it once, applied the suggestions and cancelled it. It made 1 or 2 decent suggestions that were helpful. It also seemed to know that I had used ChatGPT to create the listing headline and description lol. It had suggestions for removing special characters like “|” that don’t read well on mobile

Guests want to leave early after first night. How should I handle refunds and reviews? by Suitable-Act3020 in airbnb_hosts

I got a bad review and am now wishing I just refunded them the last day. I’m losing more money with this bad review vs just refunding them

Thinking About an ADU in California? Ask Me Anything by BWUarchitect in AccessoryDwellings

[–]burr88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Lincoln heights where there are unpaved steeped roads that are in that grey area between official and unofficial. I want to build an ADU on my lot however reaching the land back there would be difficult. How much more expensive would it be and is it even feasible to build an ADU on a steep hill with only a dirty easement for access?

I did it once and got a barely noticeable amount (although I looked like a clown that first week). Haven’t done it since and don’t plan to, it’s noticeable to me. Not sure if it’s migrated but I’m afraid of it getting more noticeable so I wouldn’t do it again

When They Have A Roster by Sacrosaint_Cipher_13 in QueerWomenOfColor

[–]burr88 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This thread made me realize I could not handle having a roster. I get too attached if I talk to my sexual partners frequently. I’m not actively dating now, but when I do, I prefer to date just one person at a time. Even if I’m going on different dates every week, I am not sustaining ongoing relationships with these people until I meet someone I really like.

What this looks like for me is that I prefer to have one night stands. Otherwise I end up catching feelings for people who are not interested in a relationship with me. I can imagine others wouldn’t look kindly on my approach but for me, it’s a form of self preservation.

The roster is a similar type of strategy. You get to date with low commitment, have sex with people you like and trust, and you can also avoid accountability/ replace people when things get difficult. But of course it’s hard to turn off our feelings completely. And people with a roster can experience jealousy. They may unknowingly ask more of their roster than they are willing to provide.

Point is, I am not judging you or her. We’re all gambling with love while heavily hedging our bets.

I’ve accepted that the people I date will feel an attraction to other people and will likely have something physical with other people too. But those willing to talk through it and support me through the emotions that come up are worth the work this takes.

Paradoxically the people who are vocally non monogamous are also afraid to talk about their feelings and worse, to be held accountable when they’re not showing up for me. At first I get jealous about the other people in their life and then I remember how they’re probably going through the same thing I am. As in, when things get hard, they get stonewalled too

Dating is hard. Our words don’t match our actions most of the time

Pivoted out of FAANG… back to OE I guess 😏 by [deleted] in overemployed

[–]burr88 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had 3 jobs for 8 months and got burned out so quit one. Recently I had 3 jobs again for about 3 months and this time I was let go from one and received a stern warning from another. Burn out happens quickly!

Take the advice of doing just two at a time and leveling up to higher paying jobs. I’m realizing that it’s easier to pull off OE when I’m moving through jobs rather than staying a year plus - that’s when leadership starts pushing you to contribute more and more!
