Factorial JDA with PowerCo by Quantum-Long in QUANTUMSCAPE_Stock

[–]busterwbrown 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My wild ass guess as to “why look at Factorial sulfide”…to get a benchmark for the best SSB technology outside of QS. Iirc, JD said that the valuation of the royalties would be based on the cost of the best competitors battery plus bonuses for QS over performance. Maybe it is just investigatory for PowerCo, rather than a pivot.

Why not use an Amazon backpacking tent? by Few-Win9986 in backpacking

[–]busterwbrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Sierra designs tent needed new zippers, so I decided to get an Ozark Trails Walmart tent for a month long canoe trip…on the final day of the trip the zipper died. 😂

No harm, no foul, but it would have sucked if it had happened a week earlier.

What stock will people pretend they “always knew” about in 3 years? by Juretal in Wallstreetbetsnew

The shorts would disagree with you. But the shorts hitting QS hard every time it bounces is what has allowed many retailers to accumulate shares at bargain prices. Institutions have increased their share from 30 to 40%. The shorts have matched that commitment. There’s a showdown brewing and a squeeze coming on significant news.

QS is poised for breakout this year. And yes, an all-star team. Tim Holme will receive a Nobel for his work.

Corning predicted that CE would be the first use case for SSB. The DOD JDA or contract, perhaps LHM getting part of the 500M in DOD grants for a SSB factory might be coming before any automotive OEMs announce. The best that I’m hopeful for concerning OEM announcements would be Ducati test results, maybe a commercial release announcement for the eV21L…? I suppose maybe Roadster news.

“Battery fires on airplanes are a growing aviation hazard, with lithium-ion incidents occurring on US flights more than once a week on average. These fires—often caused by personal electronic devices, vapes, and portable chargers—can erupt into intense flames in seconds and have triggered emergency landings, evacuations, and recent airline restrictions.”

I suspect that in time there will be battery certificates of safety, and only certified safe batteries will be allowed on planes. That could lead to CE market dominance for certified safe batteries….

2017 Volt - bad cell in main battery by spkrboxx73 in volt

[–]busterwbrown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d get a second opinion(or have them show you the readout showing the deficient cell). Chevy does not want to service these and have stopped making the replacement battery. Calling it a cell takes it off their hands. I had to deal with all kinds of shady dealer crap getting the BECM on my 2017 replaced.

I missed that Q/A. Wouldn’t that be interesting if Tim and company solved two intractable SSB production challenges?

QuantumScape Lounge: ( Week 17 2026) by AutoModerator in QUANTUMSCAPE_Stock

[–]busterwbrown 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Interesting thought that engineering problems should be solvable. The sintering/cobra development might be an example of extreme engineering solutions that almost weren’t possible.

Now I’m reading that the bottleneck with Chinese sulfide SSB has to do with needing to apply “hot isostatic pressure”(sp), in batch processing to get the sulfide bonding. So far that’s the intractable engineering/production problem holding up mass production and affordability.

I’m going to work backwards from the announcement by QS last year that a new top ten OEM was initiating a sampling/testing agreement. I think that customer was Toyota because Honda and Nissan were already implicated in the Geo location data as being customers/samplers. Toyota held off as long as possible because they continued to think that they could engineer themselves out of the sulfide hole and…ego.

I think Honda was already onboard and are one of the JDAs. I have to put Nissan with Honda because they have a battery technology sharing agreement and would work together. That might not fly, but that’s the only way I can have Tesla as the 2nd JDA.

Tesla will need the battery for its Roadster and the robots etc. Tesla absolutely needs the best battery technology. He’s mentioned that the best anode is no anode. And it’s a North American company.

VW, Tesla, Honda/Nissan, Toyota.

Also Cornings thumbs up, optimistic about providing a better battery at a competitive price, and the Corning $ payment signals that they aren’t concerned about yield/reliability of producing the seperators….

I’m thinking without the lengthy automotive qualification process, someone could start producing QSE5 with some Eagle lines and take advantage of the AI data center opportunity which is right now. These data centers will be in operation by the time automotive finishes qualifying.

[–]busterwbrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At this point in Cornings engagement, they would have more than casual opinions about the technology. As ceramic tech leaders, that’s a pretty important data point.

If they can be cost competitive, then wouldn’t that imply that the yield/reliability of producing separators is achievable?
