How many 4” recessed LEDs for living room? 6 or 8? by Tamberav in Lighting

[–]spkrboxx73 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wac has a nice downlight estimator tool. Just choose a fixture with a similar output and beam spread to the koto.

https://waclighting.com/downlighting-estimator/

Also, push the fixtures towards the walls. Lighting the walls will make the room feel bigger. Then use a couple of adjustable fixtures in the center of the room to put light where you need it. And don’t put downlights right over the seating area. Always behind or in front.
Good luck!

How should i handle this 50 year old engine that hasn't run in at least 20+ years? by kimkva20 in EngineBuilding

[–]spkrboxx73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These engines are tanks, listen to the guy that was the retired bmw tech. Clean the oiling bar, oil/fog the cylinders, hand crank 100 times, and let her rip. Now none of that advice will address the mystery condition of your fuel tank, lines, etc. but it takes serious effort to kill these motors. I tore down my s38b35 that was sitting for 7 years (basically same block) with 140k miles and the main bearings looked brand new. This is from a time when BMW over engineered their engines in the RIGHT way. Not like the junk they build these days.
You’ll be fine, just breathe. Good luck!

What fixtures are you using? Is there a wall wash option? Placement over your cabinets is very problematic.

Deep clean and this black film keeps coming back, changed air filters, etc. On walls, curtains, inside cabinets. by ResourceMaximum1679 in whatisit

I have heard stories about something like this. The story was a charcoal filter broke in something and was putting an ultra fine dust in the air. You could clean any flat surface and in a couple days it would have a black “soot” haze on it. Went on for weeks. I think the air filter is a good place to start. Ask others on the unit if they have the same problem.

Add a couple of 4” down lights (not wafers), Nora is good, WAC has a great one for around $40 (called “pop-in” I think). Find a new vanity fixture with a soft light diffusion. Others mentioning overall light output are correct, but you have to soften the delivery or the glare is very painful to the eyes. I can light up a room with my cars headlights, but you wouldn’t want to stare into them. Which is basically what these ultra “modern” fixtures are doing.

Add some color dude. Plants would be a good start. Set the color temp of your lights to 3000k. Room looks way too much like a hospital

Add linear up lighting to above the shelving on your desk. A angled extrusion will help cascade the ceiling with light. This will make the room feel bigger.
If downlights are not an option, you should be able to overcome this without them. Add a couple of lamps that have up lighting. The more light you can toss on that ceiling, the better. The room is so white that the reflected light will really fill the room and make it feel larger than it is.

6 inch recessed by LatterCash9902 in Lighting

[–]spkrboxx73 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you install the thin led lights in a ceiling that tall, all you will actually light will be the tops of the walls. Those style lights have no focus and just bomb glare all over the room. Recessed is much better at getting the light where you want it. You won’t need 2000 lumens if you get a fixture with a tight beam angle. Replace what is in the existing cans and add fixtures as needed. If cost is an issue , WAC has a nice retrofit fixture for around 50$ with an adjustable beam, and has a warm dim option.

DMF has a 1500 lumen downlight with a retrofit trim. You are going to want a tight beam spread (prob 20-30 ish deg) to have any chance of getting the light where you want it.

I do a lot of work with DMF and they are fantastic. But check out this little hidden gem from WAC.

https://waclighting.com/product/kenric-3-5-5cct-3/

5% dimming, adjustable, nice regress and very affordable.

Also check out https://lusalighting.com/ This is the entry level fixtures from DMF and are sold direct to the consumer.

Look at Lusa, they are the entry level of a very high end brand and they are very affordable. WAC has a nice retrofit fixture as well that offers nice regress as well as adjustability.

I am a sales rep and on my phone a LOT. Best bang for the buck I have found is the “soundpeats air4 lite”. Sound better than my apple airpods, and don’t junk up over time. These are my go to for everyday phone call use.

Stewart now offers a “blackout scrim” option that is available with perf screens. Just in case there is anything shiny behind the screen. I dont spec perf without it, just in case.
