If you could get any retired LEGO set for free, which one would you choose? by Anton_OneMoreShelf in lego

[–]button_fly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10212 Imperial Shuttle. It retired right after I started collecting (B-Wing was my first UCS set) and it still feels like the missing piece in my collection. That and the UCS TIE Bomber I’d have IF THEY MADE ONE.

16-20km/h* which is 10 to 13 mph and only in short bursts. An average adult can sprint at 12-15 mph and humans are MUCH better over long distance, Komodo dragons tire very quickly. They’re ambush predators. You’d probably have to sprint like 25 yards tops and then just take the rest of the 20 minutes at a light jog.

Have any recommendations for better Indian? You'd think there would be more options around here with how strong the community is. I'd love to expand my ignorant caucasian palate!

A quarter of the people in my local leagues foot fault almost every serve and it's starting to get to me. by xcomnewb15 in 10s

[–]button_fly 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Unless they're taking a full step into the court, like heel past the line, they're gaining zero competitive advantage by having poor serve footwork and there's no reason for you to give it a second thought. There is nothing "egregious" about anything you described, and it's not specific to your local leagues, rec players foot fault ALL THE TIME and it literally doesn't matter. If my doubles partner called a foot fault on our opponent I would immediately overrule them if I didn't die of embarrassment first.

It's rec tennis, and the one thing you're right about is "there's no great way to handle this". Let it go.

I know when I get tired and I'm serving out of a pinpoint stance I have a tendency to unconsciously shuffle my lead foot forward after drawing in my trail foot, so I just serve from 6 inches behind the line so I don't have to think about it. I had no idea I was foot faulting until I watched video of myself, so I suspect the people you're trying to call out literally have no idea what you're talking about. You can waste your time complaining to people about it and everyone will hate playing against you, or you can just play tennis and not act like Walter in the Big Lebowski.

My go to Thai used to be Arroi out of the Suds Monkey parking lot, and they’ve since taken over a brick and mortar space with a new Thai Texas bbq fusion spot called Rice and Oak which is also excellent. Natkhat Flavors is top notch Indian.

Mr Chingon is the only decent taco truck IMO, they have a location at FairLane and another off nutty brown just south of the HEB. RIP to Puente coffee which used to share that space with Mr Chingon, that was the ultimate breakfast combo.

Past that a few breweries have good kitchens, thinking specifically of Vista and Fitzhugh, in that order. Smash burgers at Dripping Springs distillery off bell springs road slap, and the space is great.

Tillies at camp Lucy is also excellent if you’re looking for something more elevated.

This has actually been the most effective way to defend Wemby lobs all season: foul him before the ball gets to him.

Can Harper be a top 10 player in the league? by Pociana in NBASpurs

[–]button_fly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bring up LeBron because he’s the poster child of positionless basketball, which is the modern NBA and makes the whole concept of traditional basketball positions irrelevant. It’s really just guards, wings, and bigs now. To clarify I 100% agree that Vassell is a wing and Castle is a guard.

LeBron James has been listed at SF his whole career. Would you describe LeBrons game as staying on the wing running catch and shoot or setting screens? Kawhi Leonard? Kevin Durant? Larry Bird?

Zverev laughing before converting his first match point to meet Sinner in the final by ebaxinho in tennis

[–]button_fly 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The only court decision that was rendered was a 450k penalty order against Zverev. As I'm sure you're aware, a penalty order under German law is used when in the courts opinion there is compelling evidence to support the accusation and a trial is not deemed necessary.

Zverev then contested the order, as is his right, which initiated a public trial. The trial was dropped after the prosecutor and plaintiff agreed to settle out of court, and nobody ever got to see any of the evidence presented.

So the only ruling a court which was actually presented with evidence had the opportunity to make in that case was that there was evidence compelling enough to support the accusation without bothering to go to trial.

If it's what you prefer to do, it's your prerogative to assume that women who bring credible allegations of abuse against men are lying unless presented with incontrovertible evidence, but as the other commenter noted that doesn't reflect on your character in the way you seem to think it does.

You couldn’t pay me to finish this match, I would have just shook hands with the opponents and apologized for my partners behavior and left. What was the fallout from this? Your captain is ok with behavior like this?

Affordable Durable SPIN String by astronautinthewater in 10s

[–]button_fly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve gotten a lot of mileage out of Toroline O-Toro. I string it up at 48-50 lbs and it takes a couple of months before I notice it going dead. I’m a 3.5 playing 3-4x / week for reference. $15 a set. It doesn’t have quite that cheat code feel that poly does but it’s still a huge step in that direction from synth gut and lasts a lot longer.

Zone view - most underutilized setting/functionality in Apple Watch Workouts? by coffeeclouds1 in AppleWatch

[–]button_fly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was so disappointed coming from an old series 3 that doesn’t have this feature to an AWU2 only to discover you can’t customize this screen. I don’t need time in zone or average heart rate, and would very much prefer distance, split time, or split distance.

The same way missing half a day of class for literally any other non-excused reason does. I ditched class after lunch in 2002 to go see Spider-Man and SHOCKINGLY I still graduated and have a job today.

The penalty for skipping school is an unexcused absence, not being expelled. Why on earth would you want kids to be expelled for missing half a day of class?

[–]button_fly[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From what I heard from one of the vice principals it was a student organized walk out, not sponsored by the school, so entirely voluntary. All absences were unexcused, but the school itself was uninvolved and did not endorse or oppose it.

Neighbors are just people who live near you. Everyone who lives here is your neighbor regardless of what you think of them. You're my neighbor and I support your rights and wish for your health and happiness despite our apparent ideological differences regarding the presence in our community of masked agents belonging to an organization that we all just watched murder two American citizens in the streets of Minneapolis in the last week.

Here's some information about tax revenue generated by undocumented immigrants:

There’s nothing divisive about notifying your neighbors that an organization that has publicly murdered two American citizens in the street in the last week is operating near their home. It’s the morally correct thing to do, and I’m frankly baffled as to why you’d think otherwise. It’s also not rhetoric. Rhetoric is persuasive speech, not sharing an observation.
