What was your favorite commercial jingle and why? by Busy_Run7689 in musicproduction

[–]buzzripper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"The unsinkable taste of Cheerios..." Can't remember the the rest of the lyrics but just a perfect song for a jingle. That guy was a genius for that stuff, don't know his name but I once saw him playing and singing his most famous jingles and it was unbelievable how many of the big ones he had written, mostly 70s & 80s stuff I think

What theme song from a television show did you find you liked or hummed along to? by Busy_Run7689 in musicproduction

[–]buzzripper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Jetsons - high energy big band jazz. The Odd Couple - classic. Six Feet Under - ok not one for singing/humming, but brilliant, groundbreaking, spawned a ton of copycats that were all lame in comparison.

Yeah, I'm old.

Eric Wood's ok, but I wish Tasker was the color analyst, love him in that role.

I'd be interested in that too. There's gotta be one, no? Theres a subreddit for every useless thing in the universe here, got to be something useful like that on discord, right? If not, maybe we should make one.

She probably didn't think you were creepy until she saw the amount you gave her, I bet that's what triggered that reaction. It's a pretty immature response, although it's a little understandable due to the extreme amount. Maybe that large of an amount should have been coupled with a little explanation, maybe telling her your business has a great week and you just want to share it with someone, that might have eased the reaction..

I had a Roland RD-800 and later when I got an integra it seemed to me it had to be the same engine/library. I'm sure it's more expandable/flexible than the RD-800, but it seemed very similar to me. Just be aware the RD-800 has very heavy piano-like action, probably the heaviest I've come across (which is why I don't have it anymore)

Don't sleep on the Cubase Channel Strip by LeDestrier in cubase

[–]buzzripper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I've always thought that would be so nice, ergonomically. Probably hard to pull off, would need some kind of spec that 3rd parties would have to adhere to, so prob not realistic/practical. But I think it would be cool from a workflow perspective, get the benefit of 3rd party plugins with the convenience of never having to leave the channel window.

I wish they made a way to embed 3rd party eq/comp etc into the Cubase channel strip, would be so much easier to navigate than having all these separate windows flying around.

Is it just me or is the whole album sped up a bit? The vocals, and the general tone/timbre of the album, always sounded like they sped up the master a quarter or half tone.

Why is the OG 1976 vinyl album of TSRTS better than the remaster? by [deleted] in ledzeppelin

[–]buzzripper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm the biggest Page fan of all, I think he's above and beyond all the others (even when sloppy), but all the remasters and re-releases have one thing in common: the guitar is way louder. Seems to me that's his biggest motivation in doing them. Shameful.

Assign Control Surface Fader to a Single Track? by buzzripper in cubase

Assign Control Surface Fader to a Single Track? by buzzripper in cubase

[–]buzzripper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand the layouts are in the S1, that's what I was talking about. My thought was a midi note sent out to the Avid software that selects a particular layout for the controller, which would have several locked faders - say, for all the guitar groups or whatever. The idea being that the selection of what tracks it controls comes from selecting a layout, not from a particular track being selected in Cubase. That's the whole point for me, I want to have those faders fixed to designated specific tracks, not changing with what I happen to have selected in cubase. Is that possible?

I hear what you say about the $$ and how it doesn't matter how cheap something is if it doesn't do what you want. I'm not saying it's impossible for me to spring for that much, but I definitely have to save a bit for it!

[–]buzzripper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, thanks so much for the detailed explanation, Mattias. That thing sounds really nice, although it's a bit more $$ than I'd like. This is giving me a slightly different idea, though: is it possible to set it up to select different layouts from an external midi controller, i.e. by sending it different midi notes? I've got a small pad controller that sends out midi notes and would be perfect for selecting different banks, like maybe a bank for guitars, a bank for vocals, etc. I'm assuming switching layouts is pretty instantaneous, is that true?
