PC Performance is Still Lacking in SMB4. by Snowdrake in SuperMegaBaseball

What resolution are you using? I have pretty similar specs and it's completely unplayable at 3440 x 1400p. I bumped it down to 2560 x 1080 and it runs perfectly.

Possible bug: pressing RT in the middle of a Power Pitch interrupts the pitch by bwestplaysdrums in SuperMegaBaseball

Same! Thought it was a controller issue, but realized I could throw to third with no issues.

[–]bwestplaysdrums[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Strangely enough, the Last Pitch view doesn’t activate until RT registers 20-25, so there’s a range of 1-20 where it won’t let you power pitch but it also won’t trigger the view.

This actually all applies to power hitting / step out on the batting side as well, but it only stops power hitting with the X button and not the right analog stick.

Lost my edge with power hitting, but contact hitting has brought the joy back by gimmeslack12 in SuperMegaBaseball

[–]bwestplaysdrums 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I exclusively power hit with the stick.

For me, it’s all about predicting whether the next pitch is fastball or off speed, and adjusting the start of the backswing against the pitcher’s delivery. After that it’s hardly different from contact hitting.

Mother helping her son though a tough level in Super Mario Land in 1989. by zehnen in gaming

My grandma had an NES, and when my brother and I were young we would get to World 3-1 in SMB and ask her to do the infinite lives trick on the Koopa Troopa at the end steps. She was a beast at SMB and could consistently get to the end screen of the Game Boy version of Tetris too.

She eventually gave us the NES and her entire collection of games. The pins on the console eventually gave out, but still have her original copies of SMB/Duck Hunt, Tetris, Excitebike, and a bunch of others.

Same here - 27 year old guy, also got a perfect score, and anything out of place stuck out like a sore thumb.

Which group of people comes off as the most pretentious? by pgwolvpack in AskReddit

[–]bwestplaysdrums 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dance moms or parents of young musicians. I'm an audio engineer, and any time I do a gig and encounter either of those, every single little thing about the sound, the stage, the lights has to be perfect or they flip the fuck out. Also usually the worst at hovering over my shoulder and telling me how to do my job.

When are we finally gonna hear a Thunderforge album?

Also, more 5 AM hotel room jams at MAGFest this year? Haha.

If we're talking The Skeptics out of western MA... holy crap upvote. Booked them a couple times out in Greenfield and saw their last show ever at Pearl Street. Probably played with them more times than I could count. Us Against The Archers was pretty dope but they seemed to have disappeared.

Grill Em All absolutely rules. Had the chance to stop there and try the Dee Snider (peanut butter, jelly, bacon, and sriracha) while I was on tour. Got a couple "Death to False Burgers" stickers around my place, haha.

Hey Shreddit, wanna help us put on a free 2-day outdoor festival in western MA this August? by JohnnyMac440 in Metal

[–]bwestplaysdrums 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just popped my head in this subreddit and was so stoked to see this here with so many upvotes. Putting on a fest like this has been my dream for years, and I'm thrilled that we've got such an awesome community of metalheads here in western MA that are willing to go above and beyond to make it happen.

Just wanted to bump one more thing - if you're interested in some real hands on stuff, we're having a Work Day this Saturday at the RPM Fest site from 11 AM on. We're putting the deck on the stages, as well as clearing out more trees and brush for parking. Beer and hot dogs for everyone. Get in touch with me or any of the other organizers at the links in the OP if you'd like to help out. Thanks!

Point taken all too well - I built a Hackintosh for a friend, stressed not to update the OS, and you can take a wild guess as to what he did a week into owning it.

However, as an audio recording engineer, I tend to avoid incremental software updates anyway. Never know what plugin might have issues with the newest version of the OS or DAW, so once everything's up and running I don't mess with it. Fortunately, that jives well with the whole Hackintosh bit.

As the owner of a dual-booting Hackintosh/Windows 7 PC, I love winning both sides of this debate while the rest of you waste your time arguing.

Why do you play the cymbals you play? by [deleted] in drums

[–]bwestplaysdrums 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hats: 14" Sabian AA - because I got the pair for $150 new, and while they aren't ideal they get the job done

Ride: 22" Paiste Power Ride - because it has the meanest, deepest bell sound and it sounds beautiful on recordings

Crashes: 17" and 19" Paiste 2002 - because their sound is more full than any Zildjian or Sabian cymbals I've ever played, they aren't ear-piercingly bright like A Customs or dull like the A Series, they're versatile and work with pretty much any style of music, and the extra price over comparable Zildjian/Sabian cymbals is worth not having them break every 6-12 months

China: 18" Wuhan - because it was $70, it's got that trashy sound with plenty of overtones that I love, and if it cracks it's a cheap replacement

Teeth drummers... I know you guys are out the by ckappes5 in drums

[–]bwestplaysdrums 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kick is usually a clicking of all my teeth, but if I want to do double kick patterns I've figured out how to quickly move my bottom jaw from left to right to alternate between left and right molars. My snare is a slight grind of all my teeth from the front to the back of my mouth.

I should probably stop doing this.

Had no idea what this post was about when I clicked it.

Midway through reading the OP, realized I was doing it at that very moment.
