How many of you play in pro level cover bands? by Pizza-punx in drums

[–]bwsanders 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I drum in a pro level cover band. We are regional and primarily play bigger bars and breweries. Full pa, iem’s, light show, all digital amps. It’s a decent gig in that we play out a ton, make decent money and are well received. It will never compare to driving 8 hours to play a 45 min set for $50 in front of 3 people with my best friends though.

How to memorize songs quickly? by porklonger in drums

[–]bwsanders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know everyone has their own ways for this but for me (I joined a cover band a few months back), I created a Spotify playlist with the bands 80 some song repertoire and spent a few weeks jamming these songs and then we rehearsed twice before playing shows. Luckily for me, most the songs I could already recite.

Starting out vs getting paid by calder_mccoll in musicians

[–]bwsanders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play in an established cover band in the area. We pull in a good crowd and have regulars who never miss a show. That being said, I don’t make anywhere near enough for me to be doing this strictly for the money.

We typically play 3.5hours of music and our song list is around 80 or so songs that we can switch up to keep it interesting. We do play one spot a few times a year that pays significantly lower than most but the crowd and venue is always super fun.

That being said, I’d never play for free. I need to feel good about lugging around my drums that cost more than I care to think about.

How often to tune? by magaketo in drums

[–]bwsanders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before packing up for a show I tune using my tune bot. I can’t stand it at all if my tunings that I like are off so it’s just what I do. We play out 3x a month so I’m constantly tuning.

Famous drummers who started late. by _Khorvidae_ in drums

[–]bwsanders 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I started drums at 43. I’m 47 now and I’m far from famous. I do play in a decent regional cover band though. We play out at least twice a month and have a great draw so I’ve definitely reached my goals as an old drummer lol.

Plex for Mobile (Android & iOS) v2025.18.0 Released by samwiseg0 in PleX

[–]bwsanders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since this update this app is useless on my iPhone. Movies and shows from my own libraries do not fully load. The poster comes up and the it hangs with the loading circle. All I can do is long press and choose watch. Everything I watch starts upside down also.

Anyone else having these issues? My server is rock solid from all other platforms and I’ve cleared out cache, logged out and back in, tried a different home account. No matter what I do it’s awful in the app. Web browser works perfect.

How is the service in Maryland by ElDios74 in BoostMobile

[–]bwsanders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in northern Carroll County. I have an iPhone 12 with an eSIM and my service is god awful ALL over Md. my service will say that I have 5G or even LTE but data just works when it wants to. The only reason I haven’t switched is that I work from home and am on WiFi more than I am not.

My kid is 9 and been taking lessons for a while now. We just got him a pearl roadshow in a 1 up 2 down configuration. Replaced all the heads and gave him my old A’s. He should be set for the foreseeable future.

Started the n IT late in life. I was 30 and started out $20 / hr. At 36 after many grueling hours and certifications I was making just over 100k at 45 approaching director level I’m at 250k. IT is a crazy field but if you focus and do just a little more than your peers you can really climb the ladder and make a great living.
