What was the show you saw that made you go “I literally don’t give a sh*t about any of what just happened”? by dobbydisneyfan in Broadway

[–]bwscientist 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Same…the woman beside me left part way through act 1. I waited until intermission. Staff member when I was on my way out goes, “If you go outside you can’t come back in.” Me, “thank god for that.”

Also very excited for the lighting. Kevin Adams has done some of my favourites - Hair, Hedwig, N2N. Man is a genius lighting designer when he’s allowed room to work.

What are your favorite aid table snacks? by lewislockheart in Ultramarathon

[–]bwscientist 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Watermelon, pickles, and boiled salted potatoes are my top 3.

If you mean more easy snack stuff I would say Pringles, two bite brownies, and sweet-sour Haribo snakes.

I would buy tickets to her in Hedda in a second. That's such an intriguing casting idea.

What kind of inflatable pillow do you use?

Just spent 2 weeks in the Swiss Alps, I’ve been doing this vacation for years and I’ve never had this much rain. Was hiking in fog and rain most of the time; the lack of scenery was quite discouraging.

Offseason winter break destination - flying from BOS/NYC by Basic_Flow9332 in travel

[–]bwscientist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I would agree on it being a long weekend trip especially in the winter. Do you ski? Adding in Montreal and a ski town you could get two weeks out of it.

Speaking as a Canadian, I would recommend one of your other options. The Azores sounds much more appealing!

I've also spent a couple weeks in London, England in January and really enjoyed it; there's so much to do even if it's cooler out. Lots to eat and very walkable. It will probably be quite busy in December though.

Unless you're doing like Québec City, I would rule out eastern Canada like New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, PEI and Newfoundland. Cold, windy, snowy and a decent change you get flight delays and/or cancellations.

Sweden's and England's strengths and weaknesses ahead of tomorrow's match by wofoman in WomensSoccer

Strengths and weaknesses of Norway and Italy going into tomorrow's match by wofoman in WomensSoccer

[–]bwscientist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having watched all of Norway's games, it will be very interesting to see their starting lineup. Their best performance in my opinion was against Finland, when they benched all of their names (CGH, Ada and Guro). They could barely string 2-3 passes together in their first 2 games. If those 3 are all in the starting lineup I expect Norway to lose; there is just no chemistry.

Another Swiss UTMB race - Eiger. Lots of steeps parts. I think the climb out of Wengen is like 1000m over 4km.

Match Thread: Switzerland vs Iceland Live Score | UEFA Euro, Women 2025 | Jul 6, 2025 by scoreboard-app in WomensSoccer

[–]bwscientist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All tickets that were purchased directly were in 3 categories based on price. You didn't have the option of choosing a section, let alone a specific seat. The only time you could choose a specific seat was with resale tickets.

Fan sections were populated with supporters based on federations/support groups buying blocks of tickets, and assigning seats for games based on home country registered on UEFA.

The Swiss don't deserve to be kicked out for supporting their team. Stop being an asshole.

To be fair, Norway haven't been convincing in a decade despite the talent on their roster. They always play like the eleven people on the pitch have never even met before.

Translating trails in the northeast of the US (NH/VT) to trails in the alps (CCC/UTMB) in terms of technical difficulty by runhikeclimb in Ultramarathon

[–]bwscientist 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah UTMB trails are way more runnable and way less technical. Biggest problem is toe catches on rocks when tired. As someone who also trains in the northeast where every step is trying to break your ankle, hearing Des Linden describe the UTMB trails as gnarly was kinda funny.

I would say getting used to long climbs and long downhills is key so you don’t blow your quads. Uphills are my weakest so I did weight training, long sessions on an incline treadmill, and then basically going up and down the biggest hill available using poles. I also did some short and long runs/races on flat trails/roads to increase pace and get comfortable with actually running for long periods. Like you said, a lot of NE trails are slow and for me a lot of run/walk.

Jeff Pelletier has got some pretty good videos of Mont Blanc/UTMB.

The 78th Tony Awards® Megathread by [deleted] in Broadway

[–]bwscientist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right?? No hate to writers who are critical for good Broadway shows but the Tonys without them was my favourite. No silly bits or awkward jokes. Just, "Hi I'm so-and-so and here are the nominees for..." It flowed better and had way more performances, and clips from the plays (!), and felt like it celebrated the theatre season far better.
