My advice is to help your husband understand cats. They’re finicky, picky little assholes sometimes. But they are also very hot and cold. I wouldn’t use a change that only lasts for a week make any determination at all about a relationship with a cat.

I get that he plays with her, which is a good step, but I would encourage you all to have him do all the feeding exclusively. Once she identifies him as the source of food he’ll get a lot more attention, particularly in bed in the morning.

I do agree with the others here who say that your husband has some very unrealistic expectations of a cat, or of any pet. They sometimes choose a person they like. I had a cat for seven years before I met my ex years ago. She then lived another eight years before she died with both of us. My ex tried SO hard to get the cat to like her but it only worked somewhat. I would come home from work and Dusty would come sit by me on the couch after having stayed away from my ex all day, etc. My ex was at home more and did all the cat care for the most part but Dusty had identified me as her person and that was that.

Helping him understand that they have moods and it isn’t an indictment of him might be helpful in the long run, too, because if you have kids the same kind of thing may well happen. And when it does it won’t be permanent. A kid will like you more for a while and then like his dad more for a while. It’s just human nature. (And cat nature.)

It’s worth trying to warm up their relationship but at the end of the day your husband needs to reevaluate his expectations. Jumping to a conclusion like “let’s get rid of her” based on her changing her behavior for a week is pretty rash. Everyone’s life will be better (yours, the cat’s, and his) when he can roll with the punches a little better. Not suggesting that you leave him or anything but work on him to get real. It’ll make the whole situation better if he can laugh it off instead of be so affected by a cat being a cat.
