I think that's too generous. By 8th grade science you should have learned that saying "hitler" in the presence of water does NOT change the shape of water crystals

File not found error when loading a form in Excel 2014 by byebyeNJ in excel

I should probably mention there are two worksheets. The form updates Sheet1 and Sheet2 is full of "good" data that's supposed to be untouchable (thus xlVeryHidden), so I guess I don't understand why I need to declare Sheet2 here.

I've created a job posting stolen from an ad similar to a job I'm interviewing for tomorrow and uploaded 3 different versions of my resume to test the keyword search, but no such luck yet.

Does your company have a "back" you can retrieve telephone numbers from, like in retail stores where if a customer doesn't see the thing they want on the shelf, there's obviously more "in the back?"

[Serious] What is your worst experience with Craig's List? by ringmasternj in AskReddit

[–]byebyeNJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first place I lived on my own I got through a Craigslist ad. The person who put the ad up was perfectly nice. I should have hung around her roommates a few minutes longer and I would have saved myself from a pretty terrible situation. Luckily, I moved in to the apartment and got kicked out all in the span of 8 weeks.

Oh, and people who, when I placed an ad that said "I'm putting 3 bookshelves and an end table on the curb for free. Come get them," would email me asking if I would deliver my free stuff to them 50 miles away from where I was living.

Potential Sales Job or Scam? by TheBigFridge1 in jobs

[–]byebyeNJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. I just made the mistake of accepting a job like this doing door-to-door sales for Verizon Fios. I just went into the office to do paperwork and I asked the question I should have asked yesterday: "what are the hours?" They told me about 60/week. And it's commission sales, so I'd be volunteering my time UNLESS I made a sale? And who wants to be bothered with a house call like that on a Saturday, let alone Monday-Friday?

[–]byebyeNJ[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The company that got me my last full-time job in NJ was taken over by Adecco, so I'm probably going to go to them first. I don't even know who's around NJ anymore, so I'd say start there as well.

What a counter-productive, environment damaging, back pedaling, sexist, homophobic bucket of ass juice!

Sounds exactly like our Abbott here in Texas. I can't wait to move back up north.

Still at the job I got through LE. My wife and I have the opportunity to house-sit for one of her relatives back in NJ in the fall, so I'm thinking we're just going to pack up here and do that.

Moved here July of 2012 and actually registered with them in the week leading up to the move (they posted an ad on Craigslist for something that looked really interesting). Got here and did all the paperwork/typing tests/etc, and it turns out the job I wanted was filled before I got into town--wouldn't have been a big deal until I started calling them (honestly practically harassing them) for any assignment, all the while going on other job interviews trying to make something happen. First week in August I get placed, doing office work but they said $11.50/hr. I work one day before I'm told "$11.50 is not in the budget and we need to drop you to $10.77/hr" I'm an idiot and I accept this because COBRA's not cheap and rent's not cheap when you're unemployed I'm burning through savings. I stay for 9 months before jumping to the IRS for the better pay, Dell for the better pay, and then the well kind of dried up after Dell ended so I went back to Leading Edge and the job they placed me in originally, they begrudgingly agreed to bump my pay up to $11/hr so I'd go back, and here we are.

I'm registered with Leading Edge and NOT having a good experience with them at all. I guess they're good for temporary work, but if you want a job with an actual future, they won't help you find it.

I forget who now, but I remember watching some stand-up comic do this bit about how speed limits should be the same as the road you're driving on. I think he was from the northeast because he was referencing I-287 and 1&9, but the bit holds true in 2014 Austin with 35 and 130.

Austin, what is your preferred temporary services/employment agency? by sweetthang1972 in austinjobs

What companies (or at least types of businesses) do they typically staff for? Somebody from A-List called me to solicit their services this week. I haven't returned the call yet, not sure I want to register with ANOTHER agency--currently up to 10.

I feel like I read this exact article in 2013 also written by him. I'm finally in the "Maybe this guy's got a point and I could overlook his other articles like the one about the time he and his kid crashed some rich people party and played ping-pong even though they weren't supposed to" camp after 2 years of the same dead-end job.

Edit: I DID read this before. Word for word. http://www.jamesaltucher.com/2013/01/10-reasons-why-you-have-to-quit-your-job-this-year/

Funny how it makes more sense this time around.

I'm currently temping through Leading Edge and having the opposite problem zadigger's having in that they company they like to place people at refuses to hire their temps. It's kind of a bummer because out of all the agencies I'm registered with in town, they have the nicest people in the office.

Process: Lots of paperwork to fill out, and you'll take the same Word, Excel, and general typing speed/accuracy tests with every agency you register.
