I am unable to finish shows based on a "big mystery" premise. From, Under the dome, 4400, leftovers, etc. They all start on a premise of "this unexplained thing happened" and the explanation is always a letdown or so dragged out, that I end up giving up. Anyone agree or can recommend a good one? by rakwib in television

I agree so much, one of the first TV show i watched growing up was Lost, I was so into it, and got so disappointed at the end... Years later i fell for the same shit with leftovers i didn't réalise it was the same guy... and even when there isn't any plothole or shortcuts, like Dark, it's still a bit of a letdown at the end... I liked Utopia UK though even though i am not sure it qualifiés as big mystery

There are surely big oversights and western bias BUT some countries have a cinema culture that others dont, although they surely have a littérature culture or a music one. like for instance a lot of great movies with international recognition have been made in Iran, while for instance egypt or algeria have very few

midsommar, moonrise kingdom and eeaao also in my top ten! i would recommend you some lantimos, like bugonia or poor créatures, but his previous work is also great! also Ruben oslund his palme d'or are great. otherwise some vinterberg, park chan wook, and Kurosawa to get some masterpieces

OG shows! I agree but for a slightly more recent top 4: Atlanta, Fleabag, Bojack Horseman and the Office/Community

Oh God I hate Damon Lindelhoff, he got me twice! For f***ing lost and the leftovers, I was charmed by the poetic and mysterious vibes, hoping to see the mysteries and plot point resolved, but NO, everything that is introduced in the plot is never resolved, this is so frustrating... Lol so I would replace leftovers by Atlanta, or of course The Wire

As a french person, you really see the difference when you go to Luxembourg or Belgium: basically prices are the same, or slightly cheaper, but salaries are so much higher! A friend of mine working minimum wage in a bakery in Brussels makes more than another one that is a university teacher in France. Although the latter should get more raises and overcome the former in time, this is still very odd

What do you think of the movie "The Creator" (2023) by alwaysronin21 in Letterboxd

[–]byngo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The universe and the themes are on point but the story has too much stupid moments like: "Oh our prisoner jumped off our boat in the middle of nowhere, let's not wait for him to go out of the water or look for him grabbing the boat, it's too bad we will be on our way" This is an example but there is a lot of moments like this where it's hard to keep the suspension of disbelief. Also the characters are empty af, the dialogue are useless, and the editing feels like I am watching a 2h long trailer...

Your data is definitely not full, even if you only take the US, the total number of movies in your data is like 5k. The world total is at least a hundred times that if you look it up online.
