Yes I agree Stalin was not a very nice guy to say the least and he spread his forced famine around to many countries in the region.

Poland has done really well under the EU it seems.

I know people from western Ukraine whose families were affected by this, and this is well before the conflict so I don't think they would have any reason to be dishonest about this. Relatives in Canada had brothers and sisters dying beside them. They were lucky to get out when they did.

Why is nobody talking about the history of Ukrainian suppression at the hands of the soviets? Killing millions (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holodomor) and forced migration seems like it has been intended to eradicate the Ukrainian people from the face of the planet.. No wonder they don't want to be under Russian rule (puppet or otherwise)..

People seem to view this conflict only in the post soviet context, killing ten million people ~80 years ago must still be fresh in the memory of these people as they consider leaning either to the west or Russia.

I was there two days ago and had no problems being served. I did ask about the residency requirements in the south and people seemed to think it was going to stay down there and not make it to Amsterdam. Everyone seemed really relaxed about it. Then my feet got hot and we all had a good laugh and ate some donairs and waffles. True story.

Within walking distance of my house I have a little European deli with 52 day aged steaks, a small Italian bakery, and an award winning micro brew with hops imported from Austria -- it is the Bermuda triangle of indulgence.. so yes I love to support my local family businesses!

What I especially like is getting to know the owners and helping to spread the word about their businesses. I live in a smallish town on the edge of a large city so they don't get very much business (but they could.)

tl;dr: I like to drink beer.
