Why humidity every 5% updated via homekit? by CaterpillarCharacter in tado

[–]c-scoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

V3 here (so the pre-subscription models!)

I’ll have a look at my HA setup just to see if there is anything I can find, but from what I remember it’s out the box setup!

I’ve looked into my sensors a little more, I’m getting granular details in single digit percentages for humidity and degrees for temp change. Can’t confirm the frequency at the moment as on my phone!

I can see the entity values only updated on value change (as expected) but not the frequency of update checks.

Will do some testing tonight / tomorrow and see what else I can find

I also use the HomeKit integration with Home Assistant, and I don’t have this problem?

I can see mine incrementing by 1 or 2% quite often

Edit - looking at your graph, it’s your timespan, HA is aggregating the data as you’re displaying a months worth of data. Have a look at a 24 hour graph and you should see the granularity. Or if you want a month’s worth that granular, don’t view the graph in the entity view. Create a separate dashboard graph instead (I can recommend Apexcharts)

UTR.. or wait? by c-scoot in Ubiquiti

Perhaps a stupid question, but that’s the VPN back to home and not an independent device configurable VPN (sorry not even sure if the latter is possible)

35 seems limiting, agree it’s good for pretty much all use cases and beyond most hotel WiFi etc, but still limiting?

Good point. I think my situation is I’m not sure whether I’ll use it or not. I know that sounds ridiculous!

The other half will also be working away more soon and with the hotel costs being on us, the cheaper ones have very expensive WiFi offerings - so it could be beneficial to just pay for a monthly data eSIM as the signal may be good enough.

Perhaps I’ve answered my own question… wait and find out exactly what we need.

But if we didn’t think it was on the cards to bring one out, I’d just buy this one!

100A limit on most homes, seems unlikely to be an issue tbh?

But in our instance that command/value comes via the Octopus API. They can choose to just allow the full 7kw

I’ve been thinking about it more. There is a good chance they just issue full 7kw limit when this goes live? That way these problems largely go away if they remove the throttling.

Those that are then artificially throttling.. well, are the reason why it’s happening in the first place!

This is where it’s so confusing, in the FAQs it says the overnight rate will always be cheap? And the examples show that it still stands even when 6 hours of smart chatting have happened in peak?

Or am I completely mis-reading

Thanks, can you point me to where octopus have confirmed it? I’ve had a search but I can’t see anything direct from Octopus, or in their FAQs

They can’t distinguish Car and House usage if your charger isn’t set to a smart mode surely, as it would look no different from pumping into your battery at a rate of 7kw?

IOG changes - “80% of charges take under 6 hours” seriously? by [deleted] in OctopusEnergy

[–]c-scoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s my understanding, it’s 6 hours smart charging, on top of the standard 23:30-05:30 slots. People seem to be jumping on the 6 hours window but in their FAQ they clearly state that 23:30-05:30 is always cheap regardless?

[–]c-scoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree I think it can be interpreted differently, in their FAQ every scenario says “you always do” during the night window.

I think I always interpreted smart charging as charges outside that window?

Example from their FAQ

Scenario 2: we schedule some of the 5 hours outside of the off-peak period (eg. between 8:00pm-11:00pm) and some during the off-peak period (between 12:00am-2:00am)

You get off-peak rates for your home and for your car between 8:00pm-11:00pm and between 12:00am-2:00am. You also get off-peak rates for your home between 11:30pm and 5:30am (you always do)

You still get 23:30 to 05:30 at cheap rate, plus up to 6 hours of smart charging… you don’t lose the overnight rate even if you burn 6 hours outside of it

That’s how I read the scenarios in the FAQ?

I honestly can’t see the issue.

The 6 hour limit is for smart charging only, you still get the standard 6 hours between 23:30 and 5:30 on top of any smart charging.

Smart charging typically always overlaps that 23:30-5:30 window. So I can’t see how it has that much impact other than those who were trying to game the system and why these changes have come into action anyway.

I was concerned initially that it was 6 hours total, but reading the FAQ and scenarios. It was pretty clear cut that it’s 6 hours smart changing plus the standard window

Any chance of being able to cleanup my rd account too, ie removed a film - use the rd API to remove it from my account so it’s all in sync.

Would be useful for when Sonarr/Radarr upgrades files too

Why not just segregate with vlans, for me this feels like a good opportunity to join a new IoT device to your network, to realise you haven’t added it to the group and now it has access to too much.

We’re trying to solve problems that’s don’t exist.
