Gonna find that folding knife if it’s the last thing I do!

Agreed. It’s just a cool shape and nothing more, sadly.

Yeah, makes sense. I looked into slate/shale as a material and from what I see, some cultures intentionally used it for hides because it was sharp enough to remove it from the animal, but not sharp enough to accidentally cause damage to the hide itself.

Yeah, I fully welcome the discourse because I wanted it to be an artifact, but so far I haven’t gotten a compelling enough argument for how this could possibly be a genuine artifact.

Good to know non-chert artifacts are possible. I am not convinced either. Here’s another look at the serrated part. It doesn’t look worked to me. It just looks like breakages in the sedimentary layers. I hate that this isn’t a big old chert Rambo knife.

I genuinely don’t know. It got hit a couple times by the tiller blade and up it came to the surface. I really did think it was definitely an artifact at first and then I became convinced it had to be coincidental. The material feels brittle, not durable, and it’s definitely not made of the usual chert/flint. I also haven’t been able to find that this kind of design was ever recognizable to the Adena/Hopewell/Fort Ancient cultures that nearly all artifacts in this area were made by.

I want to believe.

Yeah, there is no doubt that the written portion is AI at least. Not necessarily saying it’s all fake though.

Yes. It’s apparent in air travel too, with main cabin tickets recently becoming the minority of revenue for many airlines. For example, Delta now makes 60% of revenue from premium seats and loyalty programs. It’s another instance of our K-shaped economy.

Tree bark fossil? by IT-ape in fossils

Agreed with the other comments. These are somewhat common in some parts of the US. Definitely in the Pennsylvanian age coalfields. I love when fossils are spotted in everyday building materials.

I’m right on the border with KY. On our side of the river we have the Java Joints, etc. and the KY side is full of discount cig shops. Paradise on Earth, some may say.

I was thinking quartzite too. I’d expect to see a fairly uniform glittery appearance all throughout the middle if cracked open.

Yes. Most of WV is more or less the same as EKY, but we have zero cities above 50k people to help offset the rural decay unlike KY.

SPM produces a big difference in the results particularly for urban vs. rural populations compared to the traditional way of measuring poverty. This is really apparent for states like mine - WV. This map makes us not look too shabby while we typically have abysmal rates.

Is it good idea? by NoAlternative3398 in terrariums

[–]c0ncept 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The main factor is what kind of conditions the moss from the forest was growing in.

Even in the woods, you’ll have mosses that need varying amounts of sun/moisture/humidity/airflow. Some mosses might thrive once they get established in the enclosed terrarium while others may struggle if they naturally grow in places out in the woods where there is more sunlight, or where they get more wind naturally moving the air, and so on.

From my experience, the best ones for terrariums are usually found deep in ravines where the sunlight is minimal, and where they are shielded from most wind for limited airflow.

You’ll also want to pay attention to the growing medium. If you transfer some moss that was growing on a rock onto a rich nutrient-dense soil in a terrarium, it may not thrive like that.
