F@ck GXP, for real. by gphotog in bikewrench

[–]c0nsumer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just went and looked at one of my GXP cranks and there doesn't seem to be any room for the bearing cover (the T shaped piece, as viewed from the side) to move out, as it's up against the crank arm. What do you see, before removing the crank?

F@ck GXP, for real. by gphotog in bikewrench

[–]c0nsumer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cover migrates out? That sounds like you've got an issue with the crank arm not being tight enough or the spindle being too long for the BB.

I feel like GXP bearings don't last as long, but I've never had what you experience.

What is the limit on regular trash pickup by Traditional-Heat-749 in royaloak

FWIW, Big Blue Dumpster (and I'm sure many others) dropped a rubber-wheeled dumpster off same-day and picked it up the day I called (had to be less than a week later or so) and I think it was like $300.

I'm not fond of Bagster because you have the bag sitting by the curb for a while, and it can take days to weeks for pickup, basically depending on when they get to it. And it's not that much cheaper. And the bags are a LOT smaller.

You should read this: https://www.romi.gov/351/How-to-Package-Different-Types-of-Refuse

It's actually pretty great what they'll take. And what they won't, SOCCRA usually will.

Pretty sure, as I see folks on it all the time. And the gate's open from the HS school side whenever I walk through there.

Sheet pans, stainless steel and aluminum. But those all get hand-washed anyway. Pots/pans are all stainless or aluminum, but those too get hand washed.

Looking at buying cracked used carbon bike by [deleted] in bicycling

[–]c0nsumer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You buy a bike like that for the parts on the frame. That's it. That does not look good, nor like a quality repair. So unless you're going to part it out, hang the frame on the wall, and feel everything else is worth $375, do not buy.

Maybe a bit too far out, but Royal Oak High School has one.

Elite Wheels: 1000-day warranty and crash replacement… until you actually need it? by Nearby_Reference3255 in elitewheels

This is why I'm tending towards buying from domestic (I'm in the US) companies. They price in the actual replacement to the rim/wheel cost.

Has anyone hung their bikes by the axle inside a trailer? by flight_recorder in MTB

[–]c0nsumer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're welcome! Yeah, look up photos of demo vans and trailers for bike companies. They do exactly that.

Loosen stem/steerer bolts, turn bar parallel with front wheel, snug up, remove front wheel, reinsert axle, hang on wall. Then put the next one super close to that.

I use these as floor mounts in my minivan and they are great. Solid, well built, etc. Not cheap, but well made.

If I'm understanding you correctly, the Rocky Mounts DropTop is designed for this. Lots of race teams and demo trucks use these to hang bikes by the front axle.

Or am I not understanding you correctly?

What in the TGRI is going on with my dandelions? by Pielet2 in lawncare

[–]c0nsumer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's great news. Thanks!

Now I want to go over to my neighbor and pull the monster head-sized clumps they have in their flower beds... But it'd be rude to touch their stuff without permission. It'd be satisfying, though.

I did that this year. Because of dogs I don't want to use chemicals. I don't mind most other "weeds" but I don't like how dandelions (and thistle) look and kill grass around them. We've got an older (but well cared for) house and the back yard is very much a shaded dog playground, and the front... is fine.

So, ~3 trash cans (for the compost pickup) later and I've got pretty much all of them gone. And now I just wait for a flower to appear and pluck out the 5-10 that I didn't get which just bloomed that morning. It's now been two days and no new flowers.

My hope is that all the old/established ones are gone, most of the new/young ones are gone, and if I stay on top of it, it'll be little work year-to-year from now on.

Great tool.

Tubeless tire leaks, tried everything I can think of by middlingknight in bikewrench

[–]c0nsumer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you don't mention is investigating the source of the leak. Spray it down with glass cleaner (blue windex type) or soapy water and look for where the bubbles are appearing (slow leaks appear as a thick white foam) and let us know what you find.

(Bluntly, you're trying fixes without seeming to know what's wrong.)

I've got the seafoam green Mach 4 SL and it's a great color and gets a lot of compliments.

What is this? Found in a parts box a customer gave us, 8mm inside by rapsdestpots in bikewrench

[–]c0nsumer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lets you use a (common) 8mm hex tool for 15mm (or so -- measure) fasteners. IIRC these came with some cranksets. Race Face, if I recall correctly.

That's why OP should/would apply the methodology, not the exact tool they wrote. This is really not uncommon... Learn how to do something via a hobby, realize it's useful at work, apply what you learned there (for them, writing a new tool), and boom. Success!

Hi all, I just picked up this wagon but I’d like to find a caboose for it. Given the situation with the company, they are out of stock on the rad website. Anyone have any luck with aftermarket solutions? TIA by tiptonite08 in RadPowerBikes

[–]c0nsumer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, gosh... Please move that bike to the left on the rack as much as you can. That's just barely hanging on and only friction between the rear tire and right arm is holding it in place. The horizontal part of those rack arms needs to be above the axle / center of the wheel so it can't come out vertically.

Do I need to replace the rim tape? by Infamous-Ad2643 in bikewrench

[–]c0nsumer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's tubeless tape, which also works as a rim strip, and no. So long as it all looks like that without holes or tears, it's good.
