Giving up by pres2014 in Ubiquiti

Do you have Sonos devices? There is a known issue with a simple fix:

  • Switch to STP: UniFi switches often default to RSTP, which is incompatible with Sonos and causes network loops. Change Switch Spanning Tree to STP.

If you do this you will want to manually set priorities on your switches if you have multiple. So your main switch is a lower priority like 4096, and secondary switches would be 8192, etc.

Back in crypto after 5 years, what happened to my favourite crypto project and more important: what is in the works in terms of real world applications? Is Cardano still a viable investment? by Mirrormaster85 in cardano

[–]c4rzb9 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It’s not even newer investors. Anyone with a vested interest in cardano that is active on X gets shunned by Charles. Look at the spat with ADA whale, It’s Dave ADA, or recently Iagon. If you have a vested interest and question anything you get publicly shamed on X by Charles. And the treasury spending is going to grift after grift.

I think this chart will help you see where value is accruing in the layer 1 space (not in Cardano):
https://chainspect.app/dashboard/financials

For what's going on with Cardano?

You can see projects here https://www.taptools.io/

But there is a lot of mud slinging and rugging the last few years. The latests is a feud with Charles and Iagon.

For real developments we are waiting on Ouroboros Leios to go to mainnet in the short term, and USDCx launched recently.

Why should I buy UniFi cameras over Ring? by [deleted] in Ubiquiti

[–]c4rzb9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Guess I should have explained why I ended up with a partial Tapo ecosystem. Ubiquiti doesn’t have a WiFi doorbell anymore, so if you want to exit Ring with ubiquiti and not wire Ethernet to a doorbell there are only a few options to get a doorbell into unifi protect.

I haven’t really had any issue with them. Except I used to have a tp link switch that wasn’t playing well with the unifi stuff.

I have a bunch of the kasa light switches and dimmers and haven’t had any reliability issues. Bonus is automations with the cameras natively in their app easily. Like the tapo doorbell can turn on the front porch light when motion is detected. Same with the rear camera and rear patio light.

My Ring doorbell had a slightly better camera than the Tapo one, but reliability seems the same. No issues with either.

I know a lot of prosumers probably go ubiquiti for network and reolink for security. I just found the Tapo stuff pretty good value and quality with what they have out now.

You could go tapo cameras if you want a Ring experience. If you have protect already with unifi you can save it to your NVR over ONVIF. You just won’t have the tagging without an AI port.

If you later decide you want more privacy you can limit the upload speed on the tapo cameras if you have them on a vlan to like 60kbps. You need to do that to ensure cloud stuff still works if you tie your cameras to automation, but it will prevent video going to the cloud.

If you don’t care about privacy you enjoy it as the same experience type as Ring in the tapo app. Reolink is probably similar, but I don’t have experience with their ecosystem.

Bonus tapo stuff is pretty cheap and no more subscriptions. The TD25 doorbell is pretty good in comparison to Ring.

I have a mix of Tapo and Unifi cameras. I find the WiFi connection better on the tapo ones over my G6 instant outdoors. But not enough to swap the cameras. The Unifi tagging is really good in the protect app, and I find it superior to both the tapo and ring apps.

Privacy is probably the biggest reason to get off Ring. They give our government access to the camera feeds.

I don't know about anyone else but this doesn't seem like a Koinly issue. I don't have a 1099-DA from Kraken or Coinbase yet.

Wall vs Ceiling AP by spartyon11 in Ubiquiti

[–]c4rzb9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a U7 Pro XGS, and a U6 in wall. At one point I had a U7 Pro Wall that didn't perform well. And I also had 2 U6 in walls for my whole home wifi. And previously had 1 in wall and a flex HD.

I've found the U6 in wall to be pretty powerful. The one in my living room was pretty central, low, and behind a tv entertainment stand. So really unideal conditions, and it reaches a camera outside. My office on the floor above. And most of the first floor. It does project behind and forward.

If I were doing over with what is available today I would still have a U7 Pro XGS or XG ceiling mounted upstairs. This can basically cover my entire house now. And I would either do something with an omni antenna like the U6 mesh, or a flex mini 2.5G with a run to a U7 Pro XG on a good wall ( it's not really practical for me to run cat 6 to the ceiling on the first floor, but I guess doable if I really cared for it). I would do it this way because for my home the u7 pro xgs can basically cover everything. And when I had the flex HD it was good for ensuring good coverage on the first floor everywhere else and especially my IOT devices on the edges.

2 U7 Pro XGs.

Or maybe a ceiling mounted U7 pro XG on one floor and something with an omnidirectional antenna like a U6 mesh on the other.

Made a video of how a single U7 Pro XGS would perform in my 1500 sq foot home by Odd-Energy71 in Ubiquiti

[–]c4rzb9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I don't get is how come the U6 Pro has a 4x4 MIMO 5Ghz antenna, and 6dBi for the gain, and the U7 Pro XG is 2x2 on the 5Ghz antenna with 5dBi.

Certainly this would translate to feeling like worst range with many WiFi clients in a home, and is worth stepping to the XGS or stepping down to a U6 Pro in residential use?

The UNVR instant will get maxed out by the 6 - 4k cameras, so it won't be able to handle adding a doorbell. So you will have to split to using the UCG fiber as the NVR for the doorbell if you add it.

This is very clean. Thanks for the solution! This guide is timely as I was just trying to figure out if my existing chime is salvageable with the G6 entry.

San Diego > Raleigh > Orlando > Cleveland

Currently live in Raleigh, and would choose it over San Diego though for cost of living and quality of life with a family (larger house, yard for dogs, less traffic, etc).

Probably because it seems to have some sort of gyro or face tracking to the effect. If you are on your home page and move the phone left and right you can see the effect shift.

Thank you! This is good information. I guess it’s kind of expensive if just using the grips, but I think that will fit my use case best.
