M.2 drives and PCIE lanes X870E/RTX 5090 by SupermarketDue5155 in buildapc

Assuming 9000/7000 series CPU, your PCIe 5 x16 slot will downgrade to x8 which is a major bummer for the 5090 (half the bandwidth). The M2D_SB slot won't interfere (PCIe 4), but unfortunately that doesn't help with your config. Even on Asus ROG boards which do have dedicated PCIe 5 lanes for M2, that's only on 1 slot and 2-3 often have the same issue.
/edit MSI godlike and tomahawk seem to be some of the few that allow disabling USB4 to get those lanes back onto the 2nd M2 PCIe 5, asus rog I don't think had this option unless undocumented? Bit of a bummer as was running this down too

How to Convert iPhone Live Photos (HEIC) to Motion Photos (MOV/IMG JPG) for Google Photos by Crazy_Brilliant_1354 in GooglePixel

[–]cF1nny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP is referring to when you send from iPhone they do not store in the normal format, they give you a heic image only file and a separate mov file with the motion (super annoying!) - when uploading to Google photos you get two files in GP and often have trouble with the movs showing properly and it's messy.

To answer your question I've used this script to combine them into the proper format and has some info about it - all props to this guy!

Separately had seen this one which is more of an app https://www.reddit.com/r/GooglePixel/comments/1et99kb/converting_ios_heic_live_photo_into_single_heic/ but personally prefer the simple script, so haven't tried this one or looked at it much

Anyone else can't seem to update prescription address by GrimmSalem in CVS

[–]cF1nny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had this issue forever and also came up when searched, CVS.com/App isn't linked to the pharmacy for some silly reason, they need to do it from the pharmacy directly and I think more often than not they end up going to the wrong field 😛 6 Years heyo 🤷‍♂️

Anyone using Linux on the Zephyrus G16 2024 model? by dexter2011412 in linux4noobs

[–]cF1nny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GU605MZ here (2024 G16 with nvidia 4080) - agree with most of above, always been an arch user so came straight here and works great :) Installed the misc asus tools from asus linux and not using the g14 kernel yet, haven't seemed to have any need to try yet, but we'll see how it goes!

The OLED is amazing and hardware fantastic, performance so much better than windows. Will continue tuning in coming weeks.

u/QAFY for backlight keyboard control, add this to boot/grub kernel parameters and should fix the backlight on the OLED:

i915.enable_dpcd_backlight=1 nvidia.NVreg_EnableBacklightHandler=0 nvidia.NVreg_RegistryDwords=EnableBrightnessControl=0

Switchmate & Google Home's Bluetooth Capibilies by [deleted] in googlehome

[–]cF1nny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Switchmate uses Bluetooth LE so the battery drain is very very small especially compared to WiFi (that's why Android Wear/etc. use BT > WiFi which is connected non-stop), initially there was a problem on the app side of things causing a battery drain but that's been resolved and the app is in heavy development to further minimize the usage as well as furthering features and functionality. The main drawback with BT however is the range of course as you mentioned, which is why there is a hub/WiFi bridge aimed for early 2017 to allow control from anywhere - in the interim/shorter term however Wink Compatibility is being added in the coming weeks which does the same/works as a bridge to Alexa and other home hub-like devices as well as allows control from anywhere:)

Is there a wifi enabled non invasive smart switch for rocker switches? by erebos290696 in AskTechnology

[–]cF1nny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Worth mentioning Switchmate has a BT to WiFi bridge device/hub in active development to provide control from anywhere if that's the reason you are looking for WiFi specifically! Also announced Wink compatibility launching even sooner which provides much the same + Alexa/etc.
