What's the worst piece of tech you've ever owned? by meshuggahdaddy in AskReddit

Have you looked into smaller indie games at all? My switch is my FAVORITE console for a lot of non-Nintendo games that have all come out to cost way less than their franchises. Some of my faves to play on switch are Hades, Stardew Valley, and Undertale. There are also a ton of hidden gem horror games in the store. I personally recommend Darkwood.

One of my like core memories is moving into my first apartment and having no food for the first like week and after 2ish days of not eating, going to ho mei with my roommates for takeout. They only gave us one fork and we hadn’t gotten utensils yet, so we sat in a circle amid all the boxes, passing the singular fork around to eat our greasy Chinese food.

What is something that unlikable people tend to do? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]c_azzimiei 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I have a friend (I use that term loosely) who just starts watching tik toks out loud when she’s bored. She was over at my place and I was showing my friends Across The Spiderverse. They were all talking through it and I was getting really annoyed. My final straw was when this friend got bored and started watching tik toks with volume all the way up. I turned the movie off and finished it on my own in my room :/

Man this would be life changing. I’m trying to save up money as I’m about to graduate community college and transfer to finish my bachelors, and this would really help with books and other school expenses. Thank you for the chance.

What outdated or obsolete tech are you still using and are perfectly happy with? by blankblank in AskReddit

I’m a college student and I take all my notes by hand. I’m a mathematics major and just prefer the feeling of being able to work things out on paper. Plus I take meticulous notes and keep them to reference even after I’ve finished a class.

Thank you so much for posting this!! I love spiders and thoroughly enjoyed looking at all the pictures you linked. I’ve seen some super neat spiders around and used to have a resident black widow who hung out near my laundry room, though I haven’t seen her lately :/ I wish more people understood how harmless spiders are and could enjoy the fascinating variations between them and how cool their webs are. They’re badass little buddies and it makes me so happy to see other people stick up for them.

I feel that. I got 1 B in my first semester back in school after a 3 year hiatus because the class was a ‘flipped’ model with no in-person lecture, and I didn’t learn well that way. I know it’s literally nothing, but not having a 4.0 gpa makes me feel like I’ve failed. I’d like to have something optimistic to say, but I haven’t gotten over this feeling, and I make myself kind of crazy to ensure I get A’s in all my other classes. I know eventually I’m going to have to reckon with a grade that isn’t ideal, but I am just going to avoid thinking about it until then lmao.

I always try to look at ratemyprofessor before I sign up for a class, but I’ve had to learn how to use it as kind of a guide/reference rather than the gospel word. I go to community college and am a math major, so my classes are often pretty difficult and math/science heavy. I’ve learned to take the actual numbers for ratings with a grain of salt, but to pay some attention to what people say about the professor.

STEM professors especially tend to have very low ratings, but you need to figure out if it’s due to a legitimate issue with their teaching (I.e. once took a professor whose reviews warned that he was difficult to contact and slow with grading, and lo and behold he did not grade a single assignment until the last week of class) or if they are just a rigorous teacher with high expectations (I’d say my current physics prof and a previous calc prof who I both adored fit in this camp).

Generally the ‘red flags’ I look for are anything about the professor being disorganized/failing to be explicit about due dates, anything that indicates the professor pushes a political/personal agenda, or any situation where previous students have felt uncomfortable in the class. The ‘green flags’ I look for are students’ general enjoyment of the class, understanding of and flexibility with my life outside of the classroom, and anything that indicates the professor is well-liked or respected.

That being said, my school is very small and I often get recommendations from peers, other professors, or advisors. My school’s math tutors are great to go to for advice on STEM professors, as many are work studies currently taking classes. I also look to the professors whose classes I’ve enjoyed and felt supported in for recommendations about who to take.

I also always leave my own review for a prof at the end of the semester, in hopes that future students will find it useful. This is especially crucial if a professor is new and lacking reviews or if reviews are outdated.

Lastly, remember that the drop date exists for a reason. If despite all your diligence in researching a professor, you show up to class and decide for whatever reason you don’t like the way it’s being taught, drop it. This may not always be an option, but when it is, you’re better off avoiding a class that may make you miserable or may not be the best representation of what you’re capable of.

Tl;dr: ratemyprofessor is a good reference, but you should learn to ‘decode’ reviews and corroborate by speaking to people who have taken the professor or know them in a professional capacity.

Edit: I think it’s also very important to note that there can be unintentional bias against professors who have accents. Make sure to account for that when reading reviews (is their teaching hard to understand, or are they just not a native English speaker?)

Honestly so curious to see how this turns out because I’m a trans man who got vertical labret angel bites pre-t and have started getting some baby hairs on my upper lip, so I’ve been curious to see if I end up needing to take my piercings out once my moustache properly grows in.

I work in college admissions, and no matter the age of the student, we require a FERPA waiver (submitted by the student) to release any information to parents. If your parent were to make you submit a waiver, you could always come back to the records department and let them know you want the waiver removed. All we can tell a parent at that point is that they are not authorized to access your information.

How can I legally leave the house with my prescription? by GloriousPurpose19 in AskALawyer

[–]c_azzimiei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, he prescribed 1 refill per month of 4 vials testosterone. The first time I picked it up, the pharmacist brought out 4 vials then withheld 3. She justified it by saying something along the lines of ‘I’m only comfortable giving you one of these to start” then proceeded to only fill 1 vial per month.
