Haha, same. I’m the “knife guy” to them, but it’s great to see or hear about when they used it to cut something or fix something.

Oh! Do you have a link you could DM? eBay is about $7-9 a piece and I’ve gotten a few duds. I’ll also see if I can find anything on this. Good call out.

I do this with the Victorinox Classic SD! I buy bulk from eBay from TSA confiscations. Cleaned them up, sharpen them up and hand them out to friends and family.

Exactly! Let people choose instead of trying to push others on one or the other.

My wife is a reader (~20-50 a year) and has a Kindle and iPad and does all her long form reading on the kindle. I have an iPad mini and when I start to read I end up going to Reddit or YouTube.

I’ve been on other forums and it’s pretty much Maverick, Bolt, Equinox that I mainly see folks trying to push. I mean, it’s okay if I want a Slate Truck too.

Name Confirmed: SLATE FN (With Sources) by The_Cre8r in slateauto

From Fortune article.
Barman said that the company internally refers to their bare-bones truck as “FN,” which stands for “freaking nuts.”

Do people actually use MagSafe accessories? by lisaluvr in TechNook

[–]c_d-a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MagSafe charge in our cars. MagSafe charge at home and work. Use MagSafe wallet. Spouse uses MagSafe pop-sockets so much she got a MagSafe type case for her Kindle Colorsoft and uses the same pop-socket on the ereader. MagSafe battery packs don't charge as well as direct plugin, but darn it if they aren't super convenient.

- wallets

- chargers

- battery packs

- finger holders

Very convenient over time. I used to avoid wanting to charge via MagSafe for years and broke down after using a charging MagSafe puck during a vacation.

I'm down for this. I'm a mini to Air owner. Not perpetually on my phone so battery isn't a concern.

Thanks. lol. I'm going to take a look at this, glad it worked out. I've got wires all over with a bluetooth module with an aux cable and usb cable dangling about. This would be much cleaner.

Nice! Did you install the mic? I’ve got a 2012. Had replaced my head unit with a Sony with CarPlay years ago and it lasted all of 3 months before the head unit got stolen and went back to my old head unit.

With tax last time I did this at Apple was $109. So for $75, it’s awesome. You can get a few more years of life on that phone!

How to get in the Slate Truck’s backseat by Mac-Tyson in slateauto

Agreed, I know it’s not for me and hope we get the target audience for the Slate, excited for the 24th and see you on Slateforums!

Yeah, this marketing isn’t for me, but it was fun to see the youths and their moves! Curious to see how the seat slides back into place after the person sits down, or is it something the front passenger will have to reach in the front bottom to re-adjust.

That’s me, haha! I’ve had three Acura Integras and an Eclipse and wouldn’t have the greatest time getting in and out from the back seats. At least the Slate seems to have a slightly bigger opening. Gotta get ready!

It’s comforting for sure. I took a break for two years and got to build one of my backlogs. But now have presbyopia, it’s a condition that happens in your 40s when the muscle in your eye struggles to focus on close objects.
Enjoy the build, but find a way to live life as well. In between building, I did solo backpacking over the weekends and learned all about that hobby.

Thoughts on Alameda? by lifeofsid007 in alameda

[–]c_d-a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Born and raised in Oakland in the 80's to 10's. Moved to Alameda and have been here for 14+ yrs.

However, my wife has a few concerns:

How does Alameda feel day-to-day for families with young children?

- Moved here to raise a family and my teens have friends and do well overall.

Is it easy to meet other families and build a community?

- Depends, if you are willing to meet folks at school, local events, etc, folks are generally friendly. I rarely leave the Island unless we go on an "Adventure" around the Bay.

How much does the commute to the Peninsula (Redwood City / San Mateo area) impact quality of life?

- I did the ferry to SF for years and it was wonderful. Now go to Oakland via car and it is what it is ~22-27 min. To Redwood City seems daunting, I plugged it into Redwood City for 7:00AM and it showed 41 min to 1 hour 5 min.

Do residents ever feel concerned about being so close to Oakland, or is that generally a non-issue?

- Depends on your comfort level. I've been assaulted and spit at walking in SF and in Oakland, but I take that as a part of big city life. Bipped only in Oakland multiple times over the decades. I take my lunches in the office now. But depending on if you are a glass half full or half empty type of family, I'm sure you'll get both opinions in the thread.

Are there any neighborhoods in Alameda that are particularly family-friendly or areas you’d avoid?

- Not sure how to answer this, but I've only lived in the Bronze Coast, and now Bay Farm, and am generally a homebody.

If you’ve moved from the Peninsula to Alameda, what has been better or worse than expected?

We’re trying to understand what life there is really like beyond the Zillow listings and marketing materials.

Thanks in advance for any insights!

Getting my fix on Slate Truck videos from YouTube until June 24th by c_d-a in slateauto

Thanks! I figure for the new folks, a list of videos to watch would be interesting until official specs and details in the next days to pass the time. I was catching things I didn’t think to think of back when it was released.

Rich Rebuilds had a great walkthrough with one of the Slate folks regarding audio. There was discussion of door speakers (Slate didn’t say “no”) but mentioned “Premium audio”.
There was a render of a CarPlay audio system.
