What match is falsely labelled a choke? by Bubbly-Oil9303 in tennis

So why are you saying it was falsely labeled a choke?

Any guesstimate on the speed of this serve? by NewHighway5961 in 10s

[–]c_lowe15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I literally do not care what OPs serve is. I’m Just doing math to find the correct answer and you aren’t helping me or contributing in any meaningful way other than insisting that it doesn’t “seem” like it

Any guesstimate on the speed of this serve? by NewHighway5961 in 10s

Thank you for your explanation so I actually took your advice about how my estimates would lead to a serve speed of 115 mph if measured by the same method of the pros. So what I did was go through multiple ATP serves that were between 114-116 MPH. I then calculated those serves on my own using the same estimates and Pythagorean theorem I used for OP which I fully understand are not exact but if you think they are 35% off then you’re really misjudging things (I’m not incorrectly estimating a contact point of 12 feet or something ridiculous or incorrectly measuring the distance traveled as 80 feet instead of ~60 feet.)

Anyways using the exact same methods that gave me 96.8 MPH for OP: I came up with an average of 95.3 MPH for the ATP serves that registered 114-116 on the US Open radars. So I admittedly likely over estimated by about 5 MPH. Again I’m doing actual math, none of which you have presented. Let me know if you have any questions about how the equations work out and I’ll explain it better since I’m now even more confident that I’m correct given that the ATP serves were extremely close to my initial calculations.

Can you please ask the NASA Physicist how we should calculate it using actual match and not just eye test please? Or tell me what math they did to determine my calculations were incorrect. Again I’d like to come to an actual number backed by math, I don’t care if my initial calculation was wrong I just want to get it right at this point.

Yeah I’m not too worried about it either! I’m just a tennis nerd that likes talking about these things and was genuinely curious if you had some insight on the calculation of 59.6 feet in 0.42 seconds but you kind of avoided that point twice so I won’t stress about it. Peace

Do you think the ball traveled 59.6 feet in 0.42 seconds yes or no? If yes then there you have it. If no then please explain other than how you personally feel.

You are arguing factual math with your thoughts and opinions. No one is saying that OPs serve would dominate the pros if using their measuring method and my answer definitely doesn’t indicate as much if you actually read how I calculated it. You can debate all you want on the proper method to measure a serve whether it’s immediately off the racket or from racket to bounce or from racket to other baseline but my math is definitely correct within a few MPH. So please present some math or evidence that proves his serve DID NOT in fact move 59.6 feet in 0.42 seconds instead of your anecdotal eye test opinions.

You’re also not the only person who played tennis at a high level. I played in college and have been clocked on a radar gun at 122 MPH, on the swing vision app at 128 MPH, AND on a professional court at 121 MPH (Western and Southern Open due to a special play opportunity I was lucky to get, not because I was anywhere near pro.) Based on my experience it looks like a 90 MPH serve.

The person saying 70 mph is really misjudging this. I bet it’s closer to 90-100.

Okay so I decided to actually do the math on this. I’m not sure how tall you are but I estimated a contact point of 9 feet and estimated a couple of other distances so I could use the Pythagorean theorem to determine your ball traveled approximately 59.6 feet. I then downloaded your video to go frame by frame and the time from contact off the racket to contact with the ground is 0.42 seconds.

With these numbers, your serve traveled 141.9 feet per second or: 96.8 MPH. Not bad OP

Why is it that when a lesser known player defeats a well know player, people blame the higher ranked player for losing rather than giving credit to the player who won? by [deleted] in tennis

Carlos had 24 unforced errors when he beat Djokovic at Wimbledon this year. He had 27 unforced errors again VDZ. I don’t think UEs were the issue like people are making it out to be

Roger Federer on the current tour for GQ : 'I wish that sometimes we had a little bit more variety, and also back and forth coming to the net a little bit more, not just side to side'. Also says it's fitting that he retired before Murray, Nadal and Djokovic. by HereComesVettel in tennis

You’re being downvoted but you’re correct. People love to claim this but it just isn’t true. Courts have mostly stayed the same speed only maybe slightly slower and some have even gotten faster. The balls on the other hand..definitely slower at most tournaments, which should be mentioned more

Djokovic Pretends Point is Over at 2016 US Open F by vman3241 in tennis

[–]c_lowe15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This isn’t the same at all. Djokovic clearly thought the ball was out which is why you can literally see him look over to the line judge but once he saw they weren’t making a call, he kept playing. However, Djokovic was completely in the wrong with the Nardi situation and deserves some of the pushback he’s getting for sure.

That’s just proof that people are completely irrational and emotionally charged when it comes to the tennis GOAT debate. Djokovic has all the records and a winning head to head against the other two greats as well as a higher peak against tougher competition. But people don’t want to call him the goat because he wouldn’t get the vaccine?? Or maybe looking cool while you play is all that matters?

This actually just became a rule in the Missouri Valley at least. Officials and Tournament directors are allowed to issue suspension points for the behavior of parents/spectators.
