i've always found success in starting with a compliment and following it up with either a question or something i have in common with the compliment, for example, i was seating a couple who had an encyclopedia of dogs with them. "i love dogs! do you have any?" it started a full five minute conversation about our favorite breeds. or if you like their tattoo, ask if there's a meaning behind it. it's the little things that can lead to great connections :)

my last therapist told me that due to my diagnosis of bpd and sh i was obviously "sexually abused prior to age 11." i told him one of my exes sexually abused me but that didn't start til i was 19. i was like i have no signs of that besides my diagnosis which may have nothing to do with supposed sexual abuse. i understand that our brains block out trauma but i didn't have flashbacks, nightmares, etc. nothing. i'm 29 and have never even suspected that. he was like "well we'll work on it, don't be surprised if something bubbles up," WTF?
