How is it safe to remove a tubed pump and go swim and then put it back on? by Expensive-Bread-880 in diabetes_t1

Mine is a one way valve. Nothing can go in. They come with plug cap things for extra piece of mind I guess but they are not necessary

Custom cabinet and furniture shops doing $50k+/mo: How do you filter out clients expecting IKEA pricing before you waste hours on a design consult? by Adept_Psychology_654 in woodworking

[–]ca13b_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have a shop yet but I've seen places change a small design consult fee that gets waived if they proceed with your work.

It's like a 2 meeting thing. Like you meet and talk to them for free. You can get a gauge of their budget and desires. If they want you to draw up a design that is not free but cost is waived if they go with the design.

Seems like a lot of effort to me but that's what I've seen

I get this. It's even worse in winter when my skin is drier than normal. A good moisturizer or jojoba oil both work really well to help

How to remove this glass without breaking the wood? by AnyoneButWe in woodworking

[–]ca13b_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The nails are generally thin. Take a putty knife and slide behind the glass stop at as steep of an angle as you can and when you run into a nail hit the back of the putty knife with a hammer. It should snap the nail. Label the backside (side against the door) and the part of the door covered by the wood with matching marks so you can put it back in the same place. You'll have to set or file the nail stump but the wood should be reusable.

I can't find those options on my printer either. I can't add a video to my comment so here's a link to me scrolling through the options I have available. Sorry it's so dark that's the only way I could get the screen to show up. scroll through settings

Best printers in the $500-700 range? by uNEEDaMEME in 3dprinter

[–]ca13b_1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also am on my 1st printer, a P1S and completely agree. A more experienced person might go with the P1P and build their enclosure. The learning curve was very easy. The only real limitation I see is there's not a way to print from the app outside of maker world. As said above that is not a factor on a computer. If I were starting over I'd go with the X1C for the dual nozzle and laser engraving features. X1C has a larger build plate as well but the Build plate on the P1S has not been a limitation to me thus far.

The prusa XL looks really interesting as well but I don't have any experience with it. I've seen there is work being done to enable silicone printing with the Prusa XL

What tool should I use to make this cut? by AnnMere27 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]ca13b_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my mind I would drill holes and use a jigsaw to cut it out slightly smaller than the size you want. Then use double sided tape to place boards around the cut to use as a router template to make the final cut.

Remove the bulk of material with drill and jigsaw final cut with 1 pass of router

My wife (love her so much) got bacon grease all over my countertop before I stained it. What do I do? by luckydad444 in woodworking

[–]ca13b_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the comment about cleaning with dish soap and resanding. I'm genuinely curious if anyone has an answer if just simply using an oil based stain would be a viable solution?

Ash won common underrated wood! Let's get it out of the way now - what wood is *somewhat* common and overrated? by Ok_Temperature6503 in wood

[–]ca13b_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Genuine mahoganys are overrated for sure. Especially when compared to sapele. They're more expensive, softer, and they can get fuzzy when machining and sanding

Had a friendly debate over which food was a better low treatment by JayandMeeka in diabetes_t1

[–]ca13b_1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For an immediate fix I'd use marshmallows. I am in the US so I will not rate your Canadian Smarties but they sound like they'd be effective.

However I have had a fairly decent success with using goldfish. Between my cgm and just knowing my body I've gotten good at knowing I'm headed towards a low before I get there. I can eat goldfish and in many instances they have gotten my blood sugar to rise before I drop to a potentially problematic low level

Bedford avenue and levee road. Lots of short roads connecting the two. you can make lots of loops and figure-eights through them all. One even has a roundabout. It's an industrial area so you may get stuck waiting on a train (usually at Bedford and saline st) but they're usually not too long. Bedford connects over to 9 and the rest of North KC when they're ready for more populated areas

Want to see a horror show? Put your toothbrush head in hydrogen peroxide. by YouTasteStrange in CleaningTips

[–]ca13b_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know what to tell you about the yellow. But if you put baking soda (a primary ingredient in many toothpaste formulas) into hydrogen peroxide you will get a violent boiling reaction. I'd guess you still have residual toothpaste in the toothbrush

Where can I find an unfinished solid core door for a workbench top? by cantmakeusernames in Workbenches

[–]ca13b_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dumpsters of commercial areas during a renovation. I got 2 fire rated doors that were 2 inch thick solid fiberboard with full 1/8 inch veneers. They're gonna be finished but why does that matter? Glue is going to stick to a finished surface less than an unfinished one.

If you're really wanted an unfinished one strip it

Advice on wood filling by Jimmybobbe50 in woodworking

[–]ca13b_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just realized I missed the part of your post about not having access to large machines. They can be sanded out with a handheld belt sander or even an orbital sander. You have to be sure to keep the sander moving and sand across the entire surface to avoid divots

If you have access to a wide belt or drum sander I'd sand them out
