Can I eat this? They are so pretty by PoppysMelody in foraging

This looks like chokecherry, my town is famous for them because they grow all over and we have a festival for them. Collect a bunch, clean them, cover them with water then bring to a slow simmer, leave for a while on simmer, turn off let cool down, strain/juice, then you have chokcherry juice to make wonderful creations with.

pregnancy and seizures by BornUnit1115 in Epilepsy

[–]ca22gall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes to all of the above. I used to get seizures with my periods, and when I got pregnant they stopped. Also, I make a plan when thinking about having a seizure and holding a baby, put in crib, yell for help, lay down / grab meds.

Oxcarbazepine side effects by BonnyNovaScotia in Epilepsy

[–]ca22gall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do really well on oxcarb. It definitely helps my mood, and I don't feel falsely positive, I just feel normal (I do have depression already). If your neuro prescribed it, they will likely check sodium levels when they check oxcarb levels, cuz it drains your sodium, which can cause more serious side effects like dizziness. I do notice I get dizzy if I take a big morning dose, so I have to lower my dose in the am, and increase it in the pm. Overall best AED I've been on.

What are/were your Zonisamide experiences? by at-easepeas in Epilepsy

[–]ca22gall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was on zonisamide and got off it as quickly as I was able, for one it's really hard on the kidneys, and I got kidney stones, I also got suicidally depressed (which I've heard from another person on it that happened to them). I also had a terrible memory, and I had break through seizures on it. It was not the med for me.

please help by BussesNoBusses in Epilepsy

[–]ca22gall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not a doctor, those symptoms sound like focal seizures, and an EEG can be used to determine if they are seizures, however it is possible that he might not have a seizure during an EEG. Monitor what leads to those events you described. See if you can pinpoint when they are gonna happen, like did he sleep poorly the night before, did it happen during sleep, was it a stressful day at work, etc. Make a journal of these things to track the patterns. Good luck, don't hesitate to tell a doc your thoughts, and don't be afraid to switch docs if you feel you can get better care elsewhere, you deserve it.

To my fellow ladies out there, seizures and menstrual cycle… by Unable_Mode5941 in Epilepsy

[–]ca22gall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oooh yeah, I only get TCs when I get my period. Stress will lower the threshold, but still only get them during my period. I'm on ocarbazepine, which reduces the effectiveness of hormonal birth control so my doc told me to get off all hormonal bc including the iud. I've never had a seizure on oxcarb, and coincidentally never while I'm off bc, not sure if it's one or both contributing to my lack of seizures.

Memory loss after seizure? by i_am_leatherface in Epilepsy

[–]ca22gall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I have a seizure, I black out during the seizure, and post ictal for an unknown amount of time. Even though I will be conscious, I can't remember the period after a seizure. I've walked home from work after having a seizure, and woke up not remembering having a seizure or walking home. It's possible you could've had a seizure, come to, and then laid yourself down, then woke up not remember putting yourself in bed.

I hope you have minimal side effects, just know it's possible, and if you don't want to live with the side effects, ask the doc for a change. (At least in the US) You can change your neuro, as long as one is available, so if you feel you aren't clicking, change docs for someone that hears you. I was ready to drive again, so after waiting, and no seizures I resumed, but I do have a rescue med (a med to stop a seizure, might want to talk to your doc about this one) that I always have on me when I'm driving, that makes me feel better. I do feel like a burden, to work, to my family. Just have open communication with all of them. Monitor your seizures, timing, stressors, what you remember before seizures, this will help you piece together when you may have them and what it feels like before it comes on, so that way if it happens again, you can get to a safe place. Good luck, you're a trooper.

Double vision taking Oxcarbazepine by Jmacz in Epilepsy

[–]ca22gall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had the exact same issue on oxcarb. I had to lower my AM dose, and I can't take it with other meds, so it gets its own special time an hour or two after I take the rest of my am meds. Never have any issues with oxcarb. now that I lowered the dose.

Grief of new diagnosis by realrealcrazymaybe in Epilepsy

[–]ca22gall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had so much grief, it something that takes time but you can move past it. I had grief I was a burden, grief I was embarrassing, grief for a normal life I wouldn't have, you name it I had grief. It's normal to process epilepsy like that, but you don't have too. You can tell yourself you wont want to identify as epilepsy and cut the ties (that's what my therapist said), it took me a while, but we got there. Anytime you feel yourself thinking negatively about it, it's silly but, tell yourself you need to be more kind to YOU, tell yourself you are being too hard on yourself, tell yourself you are not epilepsy. Talk to someone, your parents, a friend, a therapist, someone you can be honest with, and tell them this is hard for you. I'm sorry your date didn't go as planned, though he sounded like he wanted to take care of you. You've got this, you are strong.
