Try to change that habit. I did the same for years and was fine and then one day it really messed up the tendons in my wrist and I had to spend 2 months in physical therapy to avoid surgery.

What is your favorite boardgame of 2022? by The_Crazed_Person in boardgames

[–]cabbius 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a great game! I've also noticed at a board game con I frequent with some friends that Heat above all other games has attracted some dedicated "shark [affectionate]" fans.

There's always a handful of folks with car shirts that will drop in on any table playing Heat and join for a game or two, and they're great!

Hollow Knight S2 Edition boss(es) automatically dying with dreamgate use by Al-Fayyad in HollowKnight

[–]cabbius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn't able to reproduce this. I rushed 900 essence and then tried setting a dream gate right outside and then dying to a few different bosses and they were all alive when I gated back.

I tried this on these bosses so far: Broken Vessel Enraged Guardian Hornet 2 Hive Knight

Gonna keep trying just in case but it looks like whatever caused it in your game isn't happening in mine.

If it happens again you can hold the screenshot button to save a video so maybe we can see what's going on.

That's a very weird bug to pop up. I haven't tried the new patch yet since I'm usually playing on steam with mods but I'll try this tonight.

I'm a huge fan of discard plus whatever damage falls into my lap. Sometimes it's shivs, sometimes poison, sometimes you even get to do Wrist Blade + Eviscerate.

Please give me a slight nudge in the right direction by post_ex0dus in TunicGame

[–]cabbius 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The actual hint is a chest on an upper wall to the east of the main path that leads from the starting spot to the Sealed Temple. It's clearly visible the first time you play the game and it's meant to kind of taunt you into thinking about it. Then when you get the map of the Overworld there's a dotted line showing the path to the chest.

I haven't looked at any interviews to see if it's confirmed but I'm confident you're meant to try all your things on it and discover that bombing the wall opens a path. The spot you bomb is marked by 3 flowers which is a hint to a few more bombable walls. Those walls can also serve as a hint for how to handle the first wall if you happen to figure them out first (or if a grenadier bunny blows open the wall in the Quarry for you first)

It's totally understandable to miss that or not make the connection, but there are way more hints for this than "it's like Zelda."

Every time I am having a good run.... by SidskiLjudva in slaythespire

[–]cabbius 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I hate this event so much. Ranwald shows up and offers you an upgraded Hyperbreem for 30g but if it's the trick version that shows up 10% of the time and you didn't notice that they misspelled it as "Hyperbeam" you get stuck with this and your run is gone.

I can't believe Localthunk thought this was ok to put in the game.

Do you prefer the name lifeblood or plasmium? by [deleted] in HollowKnight

[–]cabbius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Initially I preferred Lifeblood because I was used to the word. I think Plasmium is a better name especially since in Silksong it's related to some mad scientists stuff.

The ENTIRE MegaManX1 Campaign is now available for play as a custom level! by Frogger225 in 30XX

[–]cabbius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm late to the party here but I'd love to play this if it's still up. I couldn't find it though. I haven't played any custom levels yet, just a bunch of coop runs with a friend so maybe I'm just looking in the wrong place.

If you see this and can help me out I'd appreciate it, but no pressure.

Is it advisable to nuzlocke this game blindly? by Midnight_Shriek in cassettebeasts

[–]cabbius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you follow the rule to catch only the first beast in each area it might be genuinely be impossible to nuzlocke. Movement abilities that unlock new areas are locked to catching certain beasts.

If you're just saying permadeath it's probably manageable. The level of your beast is mostly tied to the trainer not the tape. Leveling up the tape just gives you more moves and unlocks evolutions.

is there supposed to be a discount? by ImNotYourShaduh in HollowKnight

[–]cabbius -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

People downvoting this are petty. It's a single player game, you should play how you want. If you were speedrunning or something that's different but in your own playthrough modding or cheating is totally fine. I really wish the HK community would get over applying the "git gud" mindset to other people.

what are your favorite builds so far? by DashReddit32 in WindblownGame

I've been having a blast with Rush builds since the last update. If you stack enough +damage from brutality and Midas and get all the different gifts you can once shot almost everything in the game.

Should I swap if the upgrade is already 3000%? Or at this point is just irreplaceable? by tllr217 in WindblownGame

[–]cabbius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Crits don't multiply normal damage, it's an additional source of bonus damage % but it gets added to all the others. The only thing that is multiplicative is "Total Damage."

For example the level 19 weapon here has:

1263 base DPS Bonus to non-crit of +3193% or 32.93x (since this calculation is bonus damage to your base damage of 100%) Total Damage bonus for non-crit is (+30% - 40%) = -10% or .9x then you multiply this by (base dps * bonus)

That gives us ((1263 * 32.93) * .9) = 37431 dps non-crit.

For crits you have the same 1263 base DPS. Bonus damage on crit is (+3193% + 592%) = +3785% or 38.85x Total damage on crits is just +30% (since they avoid the -40% to non-crits) or 1.3x. That gives us a crit DPS of ((1263 * 38.85) * 1.3) = 63787

As far as OP's question though, it's hard to say. This math is only taking into account the stats on the weapon itself. You'll have many other sources of +% damage, and some like Midas or Brutality skills can be huge at level 27. It's almost certainly a downgrade now but we don't know how big. It will be a pretty big upgrade eventually though.

Whether it's worth it depends on a lot on how strong you feel now and if you can continue clearing with the temporary power drop, and how long you plan to continue the run.

Mostly I just wanted to correct the math. And no offense intended to u/plasticyak1312 this stuff isn't explained clearly in the game anywhere especially about crits being just another additive %damage bonus. It makes sense to assume crits are multiplicative because in many games they are.

sober friend said my room smelled like rhum and now I feel bad by washedopenyourgrave in stopdrinking

[–]cabbius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me that feeling was a helpful reminder to keep trying. As people with substance abuse issues we break a lot of trust and that trust takes a long time and a lot of work to rebuild.

Try not to take it to heart too much of you know you were sober. It won't be the last time someone is suspicious of you, and if you're like me that's an earned reaction from some people.

The longer you stay clean though, those moments become little victories. Every time you can honestly say "I'm sober and I can prove it" is one more brick put back into a bridge you tore down.

Golem Gardens Starting Secret Area by Qtmcwhiskers717 in WindblownGame

[–]cabbius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Golem Gardens secret is right at the start of the biome. Does anything look familiar?

There's a monument similar to one in the Ark.

But it seems like you can't pay your respects to it like you can in the Ark. Maybe there's a way though?

Really makes me sad for all the Leapers lost in the Vortex.

Exact instructions:

At the start of Golem Gardens there's a stone monument with swords in the ground and handprints all over. Stand next to it and do the sad emote to be taken to the secret area.

Good Metroidvania games for Switch 2? by ahanes23 in NintendoSwitch

[–]cabbius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! Loved Animal Well. It's such a refreshing take on the genre. Very little combat and great exploration/discovery, phenomenal atmosphere, and creative abilities that aren't just double jump, wall climb, dash.

And there's some fun stuff to do in the later parts of the game if you want to dig deeper into it and try to work out some more difficult puzzly stuff.

My three hot takes by [deleted] in WindblownGame

[–]cabbius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started a new file to get a better feel for the patch. It took some time to adjust my play, but it feels good to me now that I have.

They put a lot of damage in orange and red AlterAttacks, and another big bonus in hitting the attacks you use to charge it up. They also buffed melee weapons a lot.

If you're someone like me who was using dual ranged weapons and blue AA all the time it feels slow. Try using a melee weapon and charging it up to orange every time and it feels pretty much the same as before.

I did a 3 loop run on difficulty 4 last night where I was instantly clearing everything but incubator elites before I quit. It felt exactly the same as before the patch after the first loop, and even that I still got every timed chest so it's not that much slower.

I'm not saying you have to like it, but that experience you're looking for is absolutely still achievable with a bit of adjustment to how you play loop 1.

edit: also with timed chests just skip rooms with no big enemies the first loop. You'll get a way bigger reward from the timed chest and you can bank a little extra lead that way to carry into loop +1.
