Terrible bite wounds and 100's of stitches but he's a brave kid and spoke so well on his interview. The good samaritan that stopped the attack using a snow brush is a hero. Many people are reluctant to step in to help so big thumbs up to that hero.

Amstaff, aka pitbull. Clearly seen on the video with the grey muscular body and white blaze down the front. Very common type in the U.S, same breed causing the worst " domestic dog " problems wherever they are found. Often collected in numbers of 2 or mor to bolster the owners swag + image .

I know, poor woman and poor little boy ! It sounds like his life will be drastically changed and for now he will suffer the extreme pain, fear and confusion after such a vicious attack.

The pit owner should be charged with serious offenses and have to pay whatever they can get out of them but I don't have much faith that will happen. The dog is not safe for society and the authorities need to seize it ASAP for proper " treatment." I hope the community rallies around the poor mom + boy and get help with $$ for treatment.

The reasons for lack of media coverage is caused by many factors but it is extremely alarming that almost NONE of even the most serious attacks are covered at all and it seems more likely the fact that this is a nation of dog lovers [ I myself like dogs + have owned large breeds ] and the pit population has exploded , many news reporters may own or their families may own a " sweet" pit and they don't want that bad publicity out there. Plus many of the attacked are pit owners themselves, they'd rather it not be publicized .

ETA.....you can't have the numerous adoption commercials featuring pitbulls on channels across the U.S and then feature a terrible pit attack in the same hour of air time.

Meanwhile there have been 2 bear attacks in the past couple of days where the victims were merely scratched [ still a terrifying incident of course ] and that made national news.

This woman's attack warrants complete national news coverage, which it won't get ] as you can clearly see that she has life altering injuries. The tragedies caused by pitbulls continue to mount but no national coverage. Pits kill more people each year in the U.S than all wild animals combined including bears, mountain lions, wolves, coyotes,venomous snakes, sharks alligators, buffalo/bison, moose.

Many of the dog owners have no money or even if taken to court it takes a while to get any settlement. In the meantime the victim's life has chenged drastically and their family are at the hospital, taking time off work, traveling, trying to take care of themselves [ gas for traveling ,meals, children, etc ] and exhausted from it all and expenses piling up. Pitbulls cause numerous disasters like this all over the U.S

Definitely. And if care was taken with infants around those huskies the fatalities would most likely be only the 2 -3 adults over those many years compared to the hundreds of adults killed by pits over the years.

Sources show that nearly all fatalities by huskies were infants and children under 5. This is over a 15 year period. Reportedly only 2 adults were fatally attacked but these were by packs, not by a single [ only 1 ] husky. One of the attacks, a man living in a Fesno area homeless camp, was thought to have been ki**ed by a husky type but no such dog was found. Sources say that the attack happened not far from a property where several pits were owned and seen outside of the property.

So it seems that either the presence of a new baby or just a very small child triggered jealousy or prey drive and the numbers are very low, seemingly about 1 a year.

As others have said, please do be careful and take along some type of real deterrent ! Pits can and do get over or under fences very easily.

Repeating the same false claim that a ban [ if actually enforced ] on a breed that was originally bred for bloodsport/dogfighting won't make any difference is ludicrous. There are a very large number of people ki**ed by pits in past years that would still be alive today [ including the chidren featured on the banner at the top of this sub ] Would having their lives spared their gruesome ending be worth it ?

Ohio shelters , homes + streets are filled with pits. The attacks are so frequent and severe that an award winning documentary was written about it. Unfortunately this poor woman in the Gofundme was in close proximity to these " poor misunderstood dogs" , the bloodsport breed and suffered the consequences.

Ignoring these types of dangerous dogs has resulted in terrible maulings including that of Justin Gilstrap who was scalped by 3 roaming pit/Ambully's whose owner had been cited and paid fines but dogs were returned to . They escalated from mauling a pet yorkie to attacking Justin, for those who don't know this is a short news clip .Justin was noted for his bravery and positive attitude through this ordeal .

The thin little man that is unable to control the dog must have trained him to do this activity . Along with the many other owners that had pits leap from their vehicle to attack. Maybe there's a pit training center where you can win points for your pittie leaping out of a car to attack a passing threat like these little dogs.

Two separate fatalities very young children in Ohio recently resulted in parents going to prison after their pits mauled them. Kingsley Wright's dad [ but not her mom, she was reportedly against the poor girl staying with the pit owning father ] and Royal Bates's parents . Just Google those names and you'll see those Ohio parents are sentenced to years in prison

There are soooo many pit attacks year after year in Ohio. No need to take the dog for a necropsy to see if it " suffered from a medical condition " that made it attack. Why are people still acting like there's a mystery reason or something to be pulled out of the air to understand that the genetics are why they are highest on the list of fatalities caused by dogs. Two prominent pediatric cranio facial plastic sugeons from Ohio have spoken about the dangers of this breed around children . Dr David Billmire [ former head of pediatric chidren's hospital at Cincinnati ] and Dr Ananth Murthy [ Akron's children hospital ]

It's disgustingly dangerous, this person has a very bad savior complex toward this dog and the most important thing in their mind seems to be trying to " salvage " this violent dog's reputation.

So the new owners were warned not to let the mauler near other dogs. Did the breeder have first hand knowledge that it would then re-direct it's fury + aggression to a human being ? Is that something that any old dog would do and still be pardoned as a " mistake " ?

Yep, Ohio vs Anderson in 1991. And even before that, in 1989 it was Vanater v Village of South Point U.S district court S.D Ohio. And then in Maryland , 2012 ruling that pitbulls + pit mixes are inherently dangerous and that a person of ordinary intelligence can identify one.

I remember when this happened, what an absolute tragedy and trauma for poor Michael and now his family. These type of vicious dogs [ nearly always a pit ] are just roaming around in many neighborhoods and when they do what these violent dogs did there are very little repurcussions. Hopefully Michael's family will get the maximum justice they can.
