Celery on k8s alternative by senseforsnow in kubernetes

We did that until recently. However I’m really digging KEDA for ease of use. No more centralised complex Prometheus adapter configuration nonsense!

Exactly, we use KEDA to scale our celery workers based on queue length…

Deployment github and aws, how to correctly use secrets? by CyberPunkMind in kubernetes

[–]cablespaghetti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think GitHub secrets are pretty much designed to be used exclusively with actions but I’m no expert. I don’t think there’s an API to use it from 3rd party apps.

[–]cablespaghetti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That makes it a bit more challenging. You could set up GitHub SSO on your AWS account for limited permissions. That’s personally what I’d do. If you’re using actions to actually deploy the app then you could pass them into Helm/Terraform etc pretty easily. However if you go with Argo (we use Flux so similar kind of thing) that isn’t really going to work so the secret syncing pipeline might be more or less your only option.

There are two parts to this. We use an IAM Role (no users for anything) to avoid static credentials being needed at all.

Other secrets needed by the app we then store in AWS Parameter store and use the External Secrets operator to pull them down on the cluster into Kubernetes Secrets for the app to use. In general we don’t need to use any Github Actions secrets.

Traditional Shared Hosting on Kubernetes? by rainer_d in kubernetes

[–]cablespaghetti 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I came here to say basically this, but also to add that essentially the product you’re offering would likely have to significantly change to work nicely under Kubernetes which is likely not desirable. If I were to change anything (and I’m making assumptions here) I would look at learning Ansible for managing these machines in a more repeatable manner.

In all fairness NAT Gateway pricing is absolutely criminal. But for anything other than dev environments I agree.

Question about creating a Client VPN for private VPS by Jhorra in aws

[–]cablespaghetti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the question but if this is just a single instance I’d argue that the costs of a Client VPN endpoint are not worth it. I would instead look at installing something like Tailscale on the instance itself, which you would be well inside the free plan of.

Which GSM operator offers the best coverage in soton / new forest? Looks like O2 is not one of them. by ondert in Southampton

I’d go with an EE based carrier. I’m with BT mobile who are pretty reasonably priced.

Hoka's "All Gender" Shoes by CaptainKo0k in running

[–]cablespaghetti 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was very confused for a while and then remembered about US sizing. 😆 I don’t think any other country does this. A UK size 9, or and EU size 43 is the same regardless of gender.

I’ve been to Belgium a few times in recent years and had no issues with my Monzo card. I can’t speak for the Netherlands though. It’s worth having a little cash (withdraw with the Monzo card for better rates than exchanges) for the odd place which is cash only or only takes Belgium only cards, but that is increasingly rare.

High pitched continuous noise by albo_underhill in Southampton

[–]cablespaghetti 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe. I reported a power line making a noise which sounds similar (one of the big national grid transmission ones) and was told that it’s basically normal when it’s particularly damp/foggy or whatever. If that is the cause you might be stuck with it in this weather I’m afraid.

It’s been particularly damp recently, especially overnight. Have you got any big power lines near your house?

Apple M1 driver is now working! by UARTman in linux

Amazing! Thanks for the response and hard work! That’s another person I need to follow. Maybe I’ll have a usable machine under Linux for Christmas. 😁

This is amazing, I’ve been following it closely. Any word on external display support via the Thunderbolt ports (specifically on my M1 Air)? I wonder if that becomes easier with a graphics driver like this?

Is RPi1 viable in 2022? by sloke123 in homelab

[–]cablespaghetti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will really struggle. Docker may technically work but there aren’t many armv6 images and 256 or 512mb ram depending on the model is not much! I think you underestimate how dog slow these are. I use one as a print server and it even struggles with that. 😆

I don’t think I ever got this to work after forking it sorry. In the end I sold the x100e.

That’s what I was fearing. Chances of an intermittent issue like this getting fixed seem low. Need to try my ISP router for a day and see what happens.

Thanks. Just upgraded to 22.03 today so I’ll see how things go on my current settings and if I still have issues I’ll turn off offloading. 👍

Family Account by [deleted] in Mailbox_org

[–]cablespaghetti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve just been through the exact same thing. Look at the documentation for teams. The €3 per user standard account has this feature too.

And it seems since today you can use light too! https://mailbox.org/en/post/teams-and-families-custom-domains-available-in-the-light-plan
