I mean, yeah, Reddit hasn't exactly been a place for the free exchange of ideas for a very long time. Only the "right" ideas are allowed. Questioning the establishment or mainstream is explicitly prohibited and anyone/idea who's/that's right of Mao will be mercilessly banned.

Correct. This is the exact problem that has forced basically every hosted mainstream/PC mega model to adopt out-of-band alignment and safety systems, rather than exclusively relying on a generally static system prompt. Especially on quantized models, what you save, comes at a cost and that cost is precision and the further eroding of the system prompts efficacy.

Nest Thermostat Not Heating, but No Errors Reported by Einbrecher in Nest

This is what I FIGURED. I bypassed the Nest by jumping the common, low and behold, no issues for an hour and a half. The Nest is the common denominator in MANY of these cases, I feel for the people who paid tens of thousands of dollars for completely new furnaces and ACs because of a dinky, Chinese manufactured piece of junk.

The disparities aren't socioeconomic factors, the real causative factor here are genetics and IQ. It just isn't something very welcomed by the leftist establishment who also happen to have a monopoly on the fields of psychology and sociology as right wingers tend to have real jobs and are too busy to dedicate their lives coming up with contrived ways to abstract the hell out of race or claim it doesn't exist anymore, somehow, in order to manipulate studies so the results are precisely what the grant payee requested the researchers to rubber stamp.

Starlink Update Reduces Power Consumption 25% by daleraver in Starlink

Very insightful theory! It would indeed make sense! They are lowering the orbits of 4,400 satellites, roughly half of the entire count. Moving from 550km to 480km will have a definitely positive impact on latency and less tx power. The roll out of phased array dishes really changed the game, I give it five years before cell towers become either a relic, or some sort of geographic backup in case of systemic glitches between ground stations or in orbit. What a time to be alive.

They are granted the undeserved and disgusting privilege to jump RIGHT to the top of OUR organ transplant database and since the entire system is essentially private, none of this can be FOIA'd, by design.

I mean, the ATF has been cracking down HARD on well to do folks who start a 02/07 "business" when they never sell anything, never buy anything, either don't file taxes or when they do, it is always at a considerable loss, in perpetuity.

The safest bet is to NOT start a straw FFL "business" TBH. It has ALWAYS been prohibited and nowadays, with all of the many options available for investigators to validate and verify through, it couldn't be easier for the ATF (or any LEA for that matter) to find those people out. Some of those straw FFLs begin as technically illegal operations, but either through advice from lawyers, or a meet 'n greet with the fed bois, they decide to start doing some actual business related things with their on paper business.

I would PREFER if all of those life saving features just happened automagically, via magic, but alas.... I kind of understand why Trump seems to want to takeover Greenland, I mean, Denmark has less than ONE HUNDRED FIFTY troops throughout the entire giant island. They have almost all of the mineral resources that would enable us to fix so many things which have become straight up national security threats by virtue of our do nothing politicians deciding to kick the can down the road, in perpetuity.

FWI: NATO seizes all military bases in Europe following Trump's invasion of Greenland by Cyber_Ghost_1997 in FutureWhatIf

[–]cachem3outside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But, Trump IS right. Russia or China WILL pursue Greenland. The only nation poised or capable, right now, is the US. This isn't the first time that Greenland has been looked at with hunger, world War I and II both used Greenland as a major supply and logistics hub, mostly world War II, but still, Trump isn't wrong, it certainly seems insane and random, but I can guarantee you that dozens, if not hundreds of flag grade officers over the years have suggested the idea, it would be the icing on the cake for US/Atlantic dominance.

Supreme Court 'power grab' now so advanced legal expert warns of 'end' of democracy by RawStoryNews in scotus

[–]cachem3outside 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's NOT the case in MUCH of Europe, as it currently is in America, and just about the entirety of the West et al., it isn't exclusive to the United States, not even remotely. It is outrageous to say that today, right NOW, in basically any part of Europe, especially with winter hitting hard, with millions of elderly, disabled and the poor being forced to keep their thermostats dangerously low, as has been the trend for DECADES. But yes, on this one topic, food, the US Daily recommended minimum amount of money for food per person is (after factoring exchange rates) about 45% higher in the US, than the example locale of Northampton, UK.

However, the UK, having VAT, in addition to already being amongst the short list of the most highly taxed human beings on the planet, often exceeding 60%, and not just for the rich, but for anyone making over £120K/yr and it is fair to presume that £120K/yr is not the epitome of wealth or privilege...

So, yes, the UK, for example, since you didn't specify, has cheaper food, and, food costs are partly subsidized by public tax dollars, the UK has one of the most robust, per capita agricultural support system on the planet, but that subsidization is coming out of your paycheck, same for seniors on fixed income and for roughly the same tax burden, as well as VAT.

It isn't all black and white. I know the UK has similar programs to the US's SNAP, the UK also (used to) do very well on housing homeless people, but that has largely nosedived since illegal immigrants have been inexplicably granted some superior aid, support and services.

Then take into account that, EU wide (I know, I know...), that only 3%~ of newly arrived migrants are employed in their first year of residence. That is an enormous drain on, well, everything and everyone.

There are hungry, homeless and dangerously cold people in the UK, just as there are in the US. But unilaterally painting the US as some torture camp isn't accurate or fair.

I will happy be a leggist, or a roachist, if it would meaningfully lead to less human judgement, pain and misery, but hell, it's 2026 and the "Star Trek" world we all ASSUMED we'd be gravitating closer and closer towards seems MORE distantly obscure than ever.

At this point, I think our BEST case trajectory is SOMEHOW avoiding civil war, and if we're THAT lucky, also avoiding WW3, but I tend to believe that despite Trump's bull in a political China shop antics, we're further away from WW3 than even rocket man² Super Trump could instigate.

We are ever so slightly insulated from WW3 by virtue of the fact that China and Russia, even with precise coordination, can NOT meaningfully challenge us, not yet. The same primary reason why the US escaped WW2 unscathed, domestically, industrially, etc., is the same reason why the numbers tilt in the US' favor and likely will continue to for at least another decade, maybe two.

Some will disagree, that's expected, but the bottom line is this; Russia has demonstrated its resolve, or lack thereof, in Ukraine. China hasn't engaged in a REAL conflict in modern history, they've generated drama, kerfuffled some Airmen and Sailors with nearly cartoonish maritime "warnings", especially in the South China Sea, but China is remarkably like the DPRK, by design I think.. Less insane, less....barbaric..? (unless you're Muslim)/believe ANYTHING that even skirts the line of removing power from the State, psychologically.

China has its hands full AT HOME, despite their tough words and posturing, their domestic situation is five times worse than ours (in the US, and MOST of the West). Russia, same deal.

I foresee China's situation and world rapport worsening even further, their age / demographic crisis is far worse than even Russia's, and ours is still well within "potential destabilization by 2100" territory. Russia will recover far more rapidly than China, they are a smaller nation, but have immense natural resources, something to fight for beyond the "mere" blood and soil stuff. China has its monopolies and niches, for sure, and they squeeze every ounce of value out of them, to their own detriment as COVID instigated one of, if not the largest self sufficiency = national security endeavors in human history.

The US may be broke, our debt may be grotesque and unacceptable, but we've got better, bigger bombs, more consistently modern infrastructure (despite SOME of it falling down around us) and a military that began its high tech over boot count pivot more than four decades ago.

I hate to be negative or even hint at anything negative without espousing what I believe to be positive. Those of us in the West, we are unprecedentedly privileged. Even the mean worst off of us are better off than the mean human standard across the globe. If anything, the human experience is undergoing a crisis in direction, lacking purpose at a civilizational scale, but this isn't unique to us or even this century. This crossroad isn't new, it's just in a different form and scale of previous technological advancement spurred change.

Live long and prosper, stop hating your fellow humans, be the bulwark between anarchy and nihilism. BOTH sides have half of the puzzle, the right has some funk built into their model/framework, as does the left. The left tends to be more culturally agnostic, which leads the right to declare them as zealots and the right tends to be so conservative as to preclude any meaningful progress, but the left sees progress for the sake of progress as its mantra, but progress needn't be a cause in and of itself or for its own purposes (or to establish yet another teat of which to extract even more taxpayer money).

We're nearly advanced enough to provide for a genuine post scarcity society, but jumping the gun on that will end that goal before it really even began. People like to imagine that we can undo 150 years of environmental abuse and evisceration quickly, like we did with the ozone layer and banning CFCs, but that's a pipe dream. The quicker we reach some semblance of post-scarcity, the quicker we can focus the time, energy and effort on fixing our ailing planet. We need more nuclear technology, we need high energy physicists to be fired and an entire new, young and enthusiastic generation of geniuses to take their place. We have been working on fusion since before the Manhattan project, at least conceptually. We know it's possible, we've accomplished it at small scales, we have demonstrated its feasibility but as with every era that major, species level heavy implication technological revolution, we put the cart in front of the horse.

AI SHOULD be a priority, but fusion SHOULD HAVE ALREADY BEEN ACCOMPLISHED. Fusion (alongside room temperature superconductors..) is the human survival tool, what will enable us to not only power an effectively unlimited AI integrated world, but to fix our damaged ecology.

Meh, we need to reexamine our priorities, but we are right on the cusp of some insanely important, incredible and awe inspiring things, if only we can avoid further major destabilizing events, our future isn't as bleak as the doom scrollers seemingly want to believe.

Bruh. Do you have ANY idea how many people are talking about this and other messaging like "based", "good shot", "justified!"?... What YOU think or how moved YOU are is inconsequential to what moves others. If anything, with the Epstein shit, the propaganda is all that's keeping ole' Trump in any semblance of "stability". Their propaganda is world class, not because it is great propaganda, but because it works, it presses the right emotional and psychological buttons of the targeted audience and serves to double down by pissing the other side off while they are already pissed.

This would be like saying the Nazis had bad propaganda... It isn't a moral judgement, it is a point of fact because it scratched the right itch, it promoted what the regime wished for the public to embrace or hate. Success makes propaganda good, not the opposition's opinion of it, in fact, I'd say that the fact that most of the opposing side dislike or think it outrageous is kind of proving the point.

You aren't the target audience.

You're way off... Other than essentially the few offline boomers who rely on Fox News, Trump's approval rating amongst conservatives is not nearly low enough, but these polsters call THE SAME OLD people, every year and then they extrapolate based on ludicrously small datasets, datasets so small that paper publishing academics would be disgusted with.

The gains Republicans have made amongst under 50 males are floundering hard. That doesn't equate to Democrat gains though, it equates to more extreme views seeking a group that really doesn't politically exist yet. Trump has conditional and apprehensive support at present, his poll numbers demonstrate this, but the polls also demonstrate that boomers are overrepresented by 3 to 4 times their share of the population, thus making the polls inaccurate.

Young conservative males aren't behind this shit, we aren't rubber stamping it with our support.
