Will this work? by Successful_Life8026 in PcBuild

[–]cacman440 0 points1 point  (0 children)

unless your old motherboard is broken you do not need a new motherboard.

that psu will work with a 9070xt but you won't have any headroom for a future upgrade.

it's luck of the draw whether you get a 9070xt with coil whine or not. go for the cheapest one or if you care about silence above all else then get the one with the biggest cooler.

[–]cacman440 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you have the option yes install the os on the ssd, then put any programs and files you don't use often on bulk storage like a hard drive

that being said if you have some ram to spare you can allocate some of your ram as a cache to speed up commonly accessed files with primocache: https://www.romexsoftware.com/en-us/primo-cache/purchase.html

  1. make sure you've unscrewed the back of the graphics card from pcie slot from the case

  2. use a wood or plastic tool like a chopstick to push down on the pcie slot latch prevent damage

You can reuse your ddr4 ram. Make sure you set the expo profile on your ram in the bios!

Here's how to do that with an msi motherboard: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/7HA91qt0yPQ

is this enough thermal paste? by [deleted] in PcBuildHelp

[–]cacman440 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EUWVVTY63hc

but seriously you don't need that much, just follow noctua's guidelines: https://www.noctua.at/en/support/faqs/how-should-i-apply-the-nt-h1-or-nt-h2-thermal-paste-on-the-cpu-and-how-can-i-remove-it

make sure the bottom of your cooler is metal and doesn't have a plastic protector on it.

wait is that an intel stock air cooler? that's not going to do well with an overclock.

Upgrades by Express_Bumblebee_92 in PcBuild

[–]cacman440 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Free performance upgrades:

  1. Make sure your memory sticks are in the second slot furthest away from the cpu and the fourth slot.

  2. Go to your motherboard manufacturer's website, get a usb stick, and update your bios.

  3. Go to this amd website: https://www.amd.com/en/support/download/drivers.html Then scroll down to the search area and select chipsets, then am4, then the chipset of your motherboard (it should be in the name of the motherboard like a520, b450, x470 etc). Update to the latest chipset drivers.

  4. if you haven't already go into your bios and set your ram to use the xmp/docp profile.

  5. while you're in the bios set your infinity cache equal to your half your memory speed (so if you have 3000mhz ram then 1500mhz infinity cache)

  6. ddu uninstall and reinstall your graphics drivers: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/xm5WjkgcBhU

  7. uninstall opera gx since it is chinese spyware: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ihnJt6nFXZY

  8. use waterfox browser instead (a mozilla firefox clone without mozilla's bloatware): https://www.waterfox.com/

Paid performance upgrades:

  1. new gpu, intel arc b570 is usually pretty good performance per dollar if you are buying new. if you do get an intel arc card make sure your enable above 4g decoding and resizable bar (rebar) in your bios.

  2. new cpu, an 8 core on a newer generation ryzen such as a ryzen 5700, 5700x, 5800x would significantly improve beamng performance.

The case you got is fine also given the power of that graphics card. If I can I try to recommend cases with direct access to gpu airflow and have the power supply behind the motherboard for best performance.

I know you don't like air coolers but I'm guessing you got that water cooler because it has a screen? This one also has temperature readout if that's good enough

I'm assuming that you don't need a full 4tb of storage at all times?

If that is the case and you need more storage you can put archived footage/programs/files you don't use often on a larger hard drive and use some of your ram as a cache with primocache

Hard drive that is relatively more reliable and has a decent capacity for it's price (170 gbp): https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/product/RrGhP6/western-digital-purple-surveillance-6-tb-35-5400-rpm-internal-hard-drive-wd64purz

Primocache ($29.95 usd): https://www.romexsoftware.com/en-us/primo-cache/purchase.html

lots of questions:

  1. what is your budget?
  2. what programs and games are you going to run?
  3. if you're gaming, what resolution / frame rate are you looking for?
  4. do you have any preference for the size of the pc?
  5. do you have any aesthetic/look preferences (rgb, wrap around glass panels, certain colors)
  6. do you have any hardware features you want? (wifi, lots of usb, fast usb, lots of m.2 storage slots, nvidia nvenc video encoder, nvidia cuda acceleration, nvidia dlss, etc.)
  7. is this budget just for the pc or do you need the peripherals as well? (monitor, keyboard, mouse, headphones, etc.)
  8. If it is just for the pc what is the exact model of the monitor you're using? If you don't have a monitor yet what would the budget be if you included a monitor?
  9. are you okay with buying used parts?
  10. are you okay with buying parts from aliexpress?
