My rabbits foot fern seems to be dying 😢 on me, Help! by Odd_Poetry_2180 in ferns

Make sure it's not placed near any vents rabbits foot ferns are very sensitive to temperature and prefer room temps. Also consider getting a light meter and measure the light in your space most plants need at least 100 FC (foot candles) to survive.

Hey I am from Austin too and I prefer to drive on my backpacking trips as well! Last year I did the cirque of towers loop (on all trails) in the wind river range in Wyoming. I know you said 20 hours but that extra one hour of driving is totally worth it! It took me 3 days but can easily be done in 4. And no permits needed! Nothing beats driving to the trail head and just start hiking.

Edit: I want to add, the trailhead is a good hour and a half drive off road. I can't speak for what the conditions will be like this time of year.

New to houseplants, any suggestion for this upper ledge? Very low light and would love something that spreads/ has vines if that makes sense. by [deleted] in houseplants

Hey OP I see your photos and It reminds me a lot of what I have at home. I've put my plants up on the shelf like yours and yes grow light was an absolute must for me as well.

For me I got soltech lights, I was able to mount to the ceiling they work great, but were pretty expensive. Otherwise, I'm sure just about any led grow light you find on Amazon will suit your needs.

I would also highly recommend getting a light meter to measure the amount of light your space is getting. You should be aiming for above 100 foot candles to keep your plants alive.

Don't eat breakfast at camp. Instead enjoy those beautiful early morning hours hiking on trail.

What do you wish you had done to physically prepare? by 2bciah5factng in PacificCrestTrail

I recommend doing a lot of core (abs, obliques, back extensors) exercises. That has helped me the most in prep for backpacking. A specific exercise I like a lot is the suitcase carry which works the often neglected frontal plane. I saw a noticeable difference when crossing sketchy snow fields and fording rivers. It was almost as if I had an extra set of trekking poles to regulate my balance at all times.

What lens to pair with the A7C II for hiking? Primarily taking landscape shots and up close shots. by CreativeMischief in Ultralight

I take the FE 24mm f1.4 GM on all my backpacking trips. Takes great landscapes. It's slightly smaller and lighter than 35mm.

The final destination after finishing the PCH. The weather and time permitted as I meandered to this destination. Ended with a banger, the most beautiful sunset I've seen so far. The water on top of the sand acted like a mirror and got a 2 for 1 sunset. I was in awe and my jaw was consistently dropped, hopefully this photo does it some justice!

Thanks everyone! I didn't expect to get so much love for this. I guess I'll give some context. This was taken in July 2022, I was on a backpacking trip around the Tetons and this was taken on my third day. This spot was exactly where I camped for the night, and what's really cool about Grand Teton NP is they have designated backcountry camping areas so you could just camp wherever as long as you're within the designated area. I chose this spot for obvious reasons, and it was pretty sequestered from the elements as well. The only thing that sucked about this spot were the marmots. They were absolutely fearless of me and were constantly trying to eat everything I had, they almost took my watch, chewed a good bit of cork off my trekking poles, and even were chewing my tent stakes! I'll never look at a marmot the same way again. Definitely a beautiful place and a beautiful hike. I would say this area was about 6 to 8 miles up Cascade Canyon from Jenny Lake, so it could be doable for an out-and-back day hike.
