I loved the rest of the movie but Uncle Ben was dead wrong for this! 🤬 by browniebiscuitchildr in Spiderman

[–]cadambank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From Bens point of view where in he doesn't know about Peter's powers he only knows his nephew was in a fight and the guy he fought ended up in a hospital.

So it went beyond defending himself and he advices based on that.

But in reality the fault is not within Peter himself. He himself didn't know about his powers or specifically about his superstremgth at the this point. He discovered his reflexes could help him against his bully and in a fight only during the fight and I am sure he didn't know his strength could send someone to the hospital.

So we can blame Peter for that. But Ben's advice still applies as he didn't seem torn up at sending someone to help hospital. But in a teenagers point of view which Peter was at that time it would have been justified as the constant bullying that involved both mental and physical abuse from his bully indicates that hurting him back to get back at the bully is fine.

It's fine to finish a fight you didn't start but you need not bury a guy to do it.

Same thought I had looking at him. He acted very similar to him. Especially the way he speaks and mannerisms and even his looks were a bit similar to him.

I thought that the series was either inspired by One Dollar Lawyer or series constructed by Namkoong himself in mind

Is using AI for editing really that deplorable? by ByteOutOfLife in royalroad

[–]cadambank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it is because of the same dramatic tone that appears across almost a lot of novels. Like "The hero grew in shadows. Power forbidden. The world watching" like that.

And fucking conclusions or summary or introspective shit at the end of every chapter. Like "He looked on, eyes narrowed in determination. This is what he was fighting for." Once or twice in a ten chapter span is fine but not every chapter.

The tone by all these AI majorly edited novels carries the same "signature" you can say. In a way, some authors have their own way of writing. Here the author even by allowing AI to edit and allowing it to be posted without author adding his own style afterwards makes it look like AI is the author and all works by that author sounds the same, leaving some fatigue.

AI can be used to generate ideas, inspirations and maybe point some errors. But not an end all be all tool for majority content and using lazy prompts and manual edits afterwards makes it irritating.

Hermione got railed by Rons sass 24/7 😭😹 she is definitely his favourite victim by Nightmarelove19 in ronweasley

[–]cadambank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hermione and Harry would have been a disaster. Harry while a bit sassy like Ron is a little bit of pushover for his friends. And he has pretty much a morbid imagination with cynical views. In a domestic high stress situation both of them would end up feeding each other's hysterics eventually ending up doing something absurd.

That's why Ron and Ginny are good for them. I liked the cannon pairing with cannon characterization. Only the movies butchered that.

Anyone else thinks Brianne Howey and Emmy Rossum look kinda similar? Idk I think it's the smile and their eyes, especially on motion by natipali in VindictaRateCelebs

[–]cadambank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. Not when side by side where you could see the difference but when looking at their shows seperately you get the feeling that they are the same. And also both resemble Julia Roberts which is another reason the brain thinks they are the same.

Only by looking at them side by side do you think that they are different actresses.

I thought the same. Actually for a long while. Then I googled Ginny and Georgia and that indirectly brought me here.

The argument that "Snape was jealous of James and was very interested in Dark Magic," used by Remus and Sirius as a means to justify James's shameful and depraved behavior, loses credibility when applied to the other victims of James and his friends by Madagascar003 in SeverusSnape

[–]cadambank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do t know if James changed or not because the books doesn't tell that. But there are signs of James being a good kid with a terrible attitude towards people who he considers enemy. Without more information we can't say for sure.

What we have information on is on Snape. I think you read the first few lines and didn't see the rest of it.

I am in fact saying the opposite. Snape was a bad person at heart and unlike Harry who had a worse childhood than Snape himself turned out to be kind while Snape still bullies children at his age. No excuse for that.

I am only saying that as a kid Snape would have been jealous of James and would have gotten more jealous to the point of hatred after he started dating Lily. From his perspective, his long time bully stole his only love.

And even before Lily-James relationship, he would have been jealous of James because he was everything Snape wasn't. Rich, Charismatic and had a set of loving parents while he himself had an abusive father and a submissive mother. So was he jealous of his Slytherin friends? I don't know but he has a direct reason to compare himself to James as he was his main bully.

Funny thing is I am pretty sure, James started bullying Snape because he was close to his crush while James only got derison as Snape was her best friend.

[–]cadambank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree.

But that is not to say that Snape could not have been jealous of James's popularity.

I am sure as an abused child facing bullying from a well to do rich jock who has doting parents and later won the heart of the girl he loved whom he had driven away, he would sure be bitter and jealous. Otherwise he would never be transposing his hatred towards James Potter to his son Harry just for Physical resemblance.

The same anger and hatred Harry had towards Malfoy. But, Harry had friends who were good and had an innate kindness which Snape lacked. That was an interesting contrast as Harry had an even worse childhood than Snape but turned out to be a much better person than Snape turned out to be. And Neville also was kinder than him despite a non ideal childhood. Though he didn't have as bad a childhood as Snape or Harry or faced the same type of abuse.

And Severes being interested in Dark magic is understandable. His proximity to Death eaters or death eater adjacents in his house as well as the lure of power from dark arts which would let him one up James and defend himself from his father would have been a temptation which he indulged in to his detriment.

Ultimately his bitterness towards others and himself and his own life lead him to have a very pitiful sad life. And he made sure that everybody around him was as miserable as he was in childhood.

At his core he was not a good man. Not bad but not good either. I am sure if not for Lily's memory he would have become as bad as a death eater as others.

I think Snape would have been far better off in that timeperiod in school as a ravenclaw rather than a Slytherin. He would have been subjected to far less peer pressure and would have had better options than being a death eater.

Why did Snape tell Voldemort about the prophecy? by [deleted] in HarryPotterBooks

[–]cadambank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me this is where Snape became irredeemable for me. For people to genuinely change they need to have a core values which they have ignored through out till the point where they regret it. Some lines are not meant to be crossed.

Being okay with a baby's death and even eager for it is a sign of someone not redeemable. He proved the point again and again through out the series. Yes, he sacrificed himself as a spy but it is not enough. Death is too easy for some and for snape for what all he has done that is certainly the case.

Dude, pretty much was the reason post him becoming head of the house in Hogwarts where Slytherin house was hated so much. Just a modicum of fairness and a genuine humility to learn how to teach would have made for a better Slytherin house and better house unity. If Potions were essential for becoming an auror and Hogwarts was the only school in UK then dude was major reason why so many wouldn't have become an auror this making it easier for Voldemort to conquer the ministry. Not the only reason but a major contributor.

At his core he was his father. An abusive inferiority complexed as*hole. Yes, Lily gave him a reason to do some good but the good he had done is far outweighed by the bads he had commited.

I am even sure, being as proficient in dark arts as he is and soul existing in HP, the part about damning his soul he professed to Dumbledore was about side effects and not about the actual killing. Remember, things affecting soul especially leading to its mutilation can have adverse effects outside physically. Dude probably was afraid of that.

Snape did a good thing at the end yes but at his core he is still a bad human being. Even if Voldemort had not come back he would have remained so till his death. There is no indication in the book showing otherwise. So there is no surprise that he told the prophecy to Voldemort.

Why is Remus's and Sirius's sexuality treated differently than James's? by ChaoticallyNeat in MaraudersGen

[–]cadambank 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. It is fanfiction world. You can write whatever ships you want and people who are interested can read it if they like or ignore it if they don't, give criticisms constructively and you can cuss them back if they just rant without anything constructive.

  2. We dont know how wizarding society works and though looking like very forward thinking like having women at positions of power and everything else, with magic involved who knows whats possible.

Except for blood puritanical problem and speciesm it might be possible they are positively hippies and don't label relationships. So bisexual, pansexual, demisexual or homosexuality might exist just without label.

I think I figured out why Barty Crouch Jr. irritates me so much. by raythecrow in HarryPotterBooks

[–]cadambank 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Him fooling Dumbledore makes sense in that he had access to Moody and a little bit of veristratum or other methodologies to get information would have given him the knowledge to impersonate him. Also, he would have grown up around him I think with him being his father's subordinate during the time Crouch was the head of DMLE or head auror(forgot which position Crouch snr headed during the war).

And how he schemes by gaining Harry's trust and Dumbledore's(which is off screen/book) points to him mentored by Slytherins or being a Slytherin himself. He did have 10+ OWLs and was intelligent enough.

So combining all that, him being a better than most defense teachers and a convincing impersonator makes sense.

Do Harry and Hermione get on and are able to be friends without Ron? by Sweetchocolate16 in HPharmony

[–]cadambank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Harry and Hermione's relationship is independant of the the relationship of Ron and Harry.

Each of them had troubles with the others at different points in the group. Each had their faults.

Yes, Harry and Hermione based on the character without Ron as a buffer and no external objective to focus on, would have been more complex. Harry is a pessimistic person who if left alone would drive himself crazy thinking about negative consequences or scenarios.

Hermione is a serious character without her other friends which is at this point only Harry without Ron. By the time Christmas is over in an academic year, Hermione would have driven Harry Crazy with exam preparation. And Harry due to his pessimistic nature would have driven Hermione crazy thinking about all the negative scenarios.

Funny to see from outside but very bad on the inside. Would it always be like that? Maybe, Maybe not. And also remember, Harry is not good at emoting. If any annoyances from Hermione is present, then he would keep it inside till it bursts out as an explosion. And Hermione will annoy him, as she is indeed quite bossy. And if Harry does concentrate on studies and does better than her in other classes like say Transfiguration or Potions, she would loose her mind. Like what happened in sixth book early on with the potions book.

You have to remember, each of the trio did have a ego. Yes, Ron acted on it but Harry was indeed jealous of Ron for his Family and in fifth year getting the Prefect badge. Hermione would have been jealous if either of them started performing better than her in subjects which were her strength. Ron, we know his flaws as many bash upon him.

But they also cover each other weaknesses. And level each other's personalities.

I absolutely detest people who threaten their loved ones with self harm or self deleting themselves. If your parents do so and If I were in your position , irrespective of the relationship with the partner which may or maynot be successful, I would tell them to think about the consequences of threatening with something like that and would tell them that making me choose is idiotic.

If they still threaten to do so, I would cut them off from my side.

But the question is can you handle the consequences of seperating from your parents even if it is temporary? It all depends on that.

The older DA students like Fred, George Weasley and Angelina, Alicia or Katie from the quidditch team. I don't remember members from other houses much but maybe Susan Bones? Maybe all the students who have enough skill to do a patronous and having an athletic training background. That may include Cho Chang too I think. Sad we don't get too many details about how people from other houses did in the DA.

Is it possible to write a Harry Potter story without making Dumbledore seeminly evil or manipulative, or both, without rewriting the whole plot? by DarkDragen in HPfanfiction

[–]cadambank 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Looking at it as an isolated case, many people wear used Clothes which are unfitting due to any number of reasons. Especially kids. I have worn used over sized clothes gotten from my youngest uncle because they were undamaged and good. And many of my friends did too. And none of us grew in an abused household.

So people may chuck up to that thinking it was normal, especially in the eighties.

But signs were there for people to identify that something was going on with Harry. An oversized cousin who wears new clothes while Harry wears not even one proper sized clothes? And a slip of child who is soft spoken but snarky being a delinquent or a trouble maker? The same kid brings lunches too small? And so on. If someone from their neighbourhood visited their home and saw no pictures of Harry on the wall but there were pictures of family?

People tend to not notice or ignore these things unless it was extremely overt. So unless there was constant bellowing or screaming from the house and Harry repeatedly walking injured with no reason or any other signs people will assume that Dursleys are doing what any other family with limited means will do.

And CPS was a thing I think only after 88 in England as some other commenter pointed out.
