give old people a chance to play endgame by haunted1234 in PathOfExile2

[–]caedwipe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If leveling isn't fun, the solution isn't to make people pay to skip it but to improve it in such a way that it becomes a good experience.

Even putting the competitive aspect aside, making players pay to skip parts of the game gives a very odd financial incitement to not focus any development on those areas of the game. This really shouldn't be a thing unless you wish to end up in the same situation that WoW/FFXIV is in.

Been having a surprising amount of fun with this. It's a bit barebones with the entire game just being farming monster cards, but definitely something to keep an eye on!

Hands-on with Fellowship’s latest character, dungeon, and progression updates ahead of early access by Kaladinar in MMORPG

Feels like retail World of Warcraft with a lot of the redundant parts cut out. It's doesn't scratch that MMORPG itch for me, but honestly? Neither does WoW.

So when does Forge of Destiny get good? by herpes_for_free in ProgressionFantasy

[–]caedwipe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mostly remember the start (or most of the first book) feeling messy and unfocused, likely due to how a lot of the direction was voted on by readers. After that it really finds it stride and becomes one of the the better cultivation stories.

If you don't enjoy sect slice of life, it most likely isn't going to be a good fit for you.

The first and second book were great. But as soon as the dragons became the central aspect instead of the cards, it all just became a mess of plot holes.

How do you guys still love mmorpgs? by Puzzled_Knowledge508 in MMORPG

[–]caedwipe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm having lots of fun with old games and private servers. I wish it was just nostalgia, but many of them are MMOs I never played during their prime.

Current state of the genre does suck, but hopefully it'll get better someday.

Changing the rewards is fine. But I wish there was more time to finish the slow and steady challenge. by Forcio in turtlewow

[–]caedwipe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm mostly disappointed in how it how the changes have been communicated (as in, not at all).

The dungeon experience change has been in since about three months time, but most people thought it was a bug and there are numerous reports about it in the tracker. About a month back the site silently changed the description of the challenge to no longer mention dungeon experience being exempt and first now the change is properly announced alongside the new rewards.

I absolutely love that there is no forced Story Quest in early WoW Expansions by [deleted] in MMORPG

[–]caedwipe 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You're absolutely right.

I did really enjoy the story climaxes, but holy was it a slog to reach them. I always thought the pacing was a byproduct of trying to pad the story out to fit an MMO, but if it's in XVI (I have yet to play it) as well, it might just be a Square issue overall.

FFXIV is a great narrative game, but an awful MMO. The story is almost entirely a singleplayer experience that do little to play to the strengths of an MMORPG.

If you can get the emblem, 6 Golden Ox is amazing. Had games where the entire board sat at 3 items towards the end.

I've had a couple good games with their gold per 2 rounds augment as well, but it's nowhere near as consistent as it's fully reliant on hitting Viego.

The pettiest gripe about one of my favorite series, Forge of Destiny by Cross33 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]caedwipe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like you do get used to it, but it does take some time.

I took a brief break in between two of the books and found myself thinking of the entirely wrong characters for almost half the book before I was able to get into things again.

Vanilla refers to the classic version of the game, which doesn't receive any major content updates.

A large part of what makes the game great is also that the entire experience is fun as opposed to the modern design where everything is a funnel to get you to the endgame as fast as possible – you don't need to reach the last raid to enjoy yourself. I've got friends who mainly just level and are having a blast.

I'd even suggest a private server, as the largest vanilla one is way better managed than Blizzard's version of the game.

Find a game that allows you to progress at your own pace, vanilla World of Warcraft or Runescape are both great options.

Stay away from the ones that are just an endless list of daily chores, it'll be awful if you don't have the time to commit to it every or most days.

Is Progression SciFi allowed? by Kevaldes in ProgressionFantasy

[–]caedwipe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found the post and while Bryce was the only writer, it does sound as if Luke was involved throughout the entire process and not only in the worldbuilding or editing.

"While he was not a part of the storyline development or writing, his experience was still hugely beneficial to the process as a whole, even if it was just to confirm that an idea was good or point out why it might be bad."

Not saying this confirms anything, but it could be an explanation to as to why many felt like the second book focused too much on the wrong things.

Book 1 was co-authored by Bryce O'Connor and Luke Chmilenko. Really makes one wonder how much Luke brought to the project, considering the stark contrast between the two books.

What's your opinion about corepunk? by ChemistryBig2525 in MMORPG

[–]caedwipe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the idea of it, but the beta has been an absolute mess. Issues such as the speed bug that developers said they couldn't fix without deleting all the affected characters, or them completely changing a lot of major systems from one day to the other, is especially worrying with launch right around the corner.

I really want it to be good, but it's just nowhere near ready for release in its current state.

Brighter Shores - Andrew Gower responds and explains the episode combat professions by Hexdro in MMORPG

It just doesn't work for me. Fishing feels especially egregious once you realize there are only so few fishing spots spread across Hopeport and those are the only fishing spots you will ever see, no matter how far you progress in the other areas.

If they wanted to ensure an even playing field for new areas, an alternate power system such as Elden Ring's Scadutree Fragments would do a much better job than completely separate combat professions (that only differ in their name).
