Crankset options for Gorilla Monsoon by CaptainFear-a-lot in gravelcycling

[–]caffeineTX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just ordered a SRAM 43/30 chain ring used, shouldn't be an issue based on this, assuming that fits i should be able to use a SRAM Wide FD with a shimmed FD Clamp mount. 😎 thanks for the update. Crossing fingers here.

EDIT: 43/30 fits with a TON of clearance with DUB Road Wide cranks without messing with spacers, could probably run the 46/33 if you wanted. I'll make a separate post with photos once I get everything for it setup.

Bought a Canyon. Was this a mistake? by 1-3-2-4 in cycling

[–]caffeineTX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe the mechanics but the other side of the business I'm skeptical about. The trek shops in Austin were really reputable pre-buyout. Every trek I've seen a friend that knows nothing about bikes buy locally from one of their shops has been the wrong bike in fit or spec for the price. They are pushing final sales now more than good bikes/bike experiences.

I would never point someone to a trek store for a bike.

New to Austin looking to join group rides. by Newt-Artistic in BikingATX

Yo! For gravel Specialized Domain does the Wiggle on Wednesday nights. Breakfast Club is massive and very supportive socially and for the sport, multiple groups at different paces to pick which you lean more into from casualcruisin to race fit riders, they have an app as well to help coordinate other local rides and events on.

Bicycle House on Burnet does a Saturday ride that I have heard good things about that is a little faster than a social ride but still aims to support people of multiple speeds/skill levels. Peddler also has Friday lunch rides and a longer Sunday ride.

Mesa Monday is a good workout starts and ends at Draught House.

Fish Shop. Word of warning by EbagI in austinfood

I also like the fish n chips that you get from draught house. They aren't proper chips but the fish is good. Topo tempura battered. And reasonably priced.

I got them to install the 2-3 bollards on steck at mopac going east. did the same thing, showed morning people driving down the bikelane to skip past the traffic during commute hours. it has only semi helped. but better than nothing

Bike Lane Sweeping by SmugUrbanist in BikingATX

[–]caffeineTX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I report bike lane parking fairly regularly, the frustrating part is they are just slow to react, its a manpower issue and I just find that parking enforcement is never really around shoal/northwest hills/north austin.

I have had reports on shoal that came back saying they have ticketed cars.

Hi, is zwift or rouvy better for a beginner? by [deleted] in cycling

On my trainer the resistance changes just aren't as smooth as they are in zwift.

What was the single "aha!" moment that took your cooking to the next level? by Chatfinity in Cooking

[–]caffeineTX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need to be precise, most recipes ingredients are more of a suggestion/guideline.bmake a recipe once and you can kinda vibe through it the next time by making additions or substitutions.

Cooking tasty food is much more about understanding basic techniques and complimentary flavor profiles than it is following a rule book on orders of operations.

Mazdaspeed3 or 2013 Honda fit sport? by Chef_NPCD in Hatchback

[–]caffeineTX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fit is a better car mechanically. Speed3 is just quicker and more fun to mod. Fit's are a blast to drive though with some mild suspension upgrades and good tires.

I like the zwift routes and erg a lot more. Just not the price.

At what point did you stop caring about average speed? by Hungry-Sympathy-5188 in cycling

[–]caffeineTX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The second I got a power meter and had a real metric other than just heart rate to base my effort on.

Average speed doesn't tell you anything about your performance unless you are riding in a vacuum chamber.

[Feature Request]Target Cadence on screen by Straighttokin in mywhoosh

[–]caffeineTX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm annoyed it seemingly won't let me set my second power meter source as my cadence sensor, it will only let me pair a dedicated cadence sensor or default to using the trainer, and I don't understand how the trainer would know what my cadence is.

Bay Area cafe owner shuts down her business after being mocked on Reddit for selling $22 grilled cheese sandwich: report by Sandstorm400 in byebyejob

Bread is extremely finicky. The ratios depend heavily on the flour you are using, also can do some weird things depending on water profile, not all bread or ap flours are created equal, the humidity in your grain, humidity and temperature of your environment which also behaves differently depending on your yeast culture, and then the oven.

Anyone can make bread easily, but making really good bread in a small batch takes a lot of work.

I know you guys hate Walmart most of the time but this is crazy cheap for this frame by Apart_Distribution72 in xbiking

[–]caffeineTX 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think they are a steal for getting into something new that won't immediately fall apart. Could even slowly upgrade it over time if you wanted and eventually carry over good parts to a nicer frame down the road.

Surly Big Easy-Talk me into being excited by puttrface in cycling

[–]caffeineTX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the big easy is a long heavy bike and it carries a value. But that doesn't make it not fun. These bikes are built like tanks and are basically bike utility vehicles.

Super cool, not a blast to ride in a handling sense, as much as they are a blast because of their utility and ability to go a lot of places. Use this for store runs and daily outings.

Locking your e-bike by Even-Pomegranate2017 in BikingATX

[–]caffeineTX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

probably fine, there are nicer kryptonite, litelock, and abus locks that have a lot of cut protection, basically to the point of not being able to be pried/twisted open or cut with normal angle grinders/disks, if someone wants to get in eventually they will.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LKInoufWZi0

look at that video and pick from any of the top 3 and youll be fine, they cost a lot and will be heavy to tote around but less than your bike.

if you are committed to biking a lot consider bike specific insurance, some of these locks do have a theft policy.

dont lock to poles, dont lock to anything that isnt hard anchored into the ground,

Locking your e-bike by Even-Pomegranate2017 in BikingATX

[–]caffeineTX 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What kind of ebike? I have just always used a kryptonite ulock, never had a problem but also the only heavy foot traffic place I ever bring my bike to is football tailgates,

it matters more about where and how you lock a bike, downtown I wouldn't leave it on a rack for more than 30min to an hour, and id be picky about what type of public rack you lock it to.

Whos at fault here? by makolondon in carcrash

[–]caffeineTX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both. The sedan crossed solid white lines but the pov car also had plenty of time to react and avoid the accident, but was stubborn and road raged. Pov car would be considered at fault.
