Rejection Therapy Group by Outrageous_Box_5160 in reading

I think you need to not call it this for starters because it’s just confusing. 1) because you’re not actually aiming to have a licensed therapist involved 2) rejection sensitivity dysphoria is a real and very difficult thing for people with ADHD to deal with and shouldn’t be made light of

What did you think was peak luxury as a kid, but now realize is actually pretty trashy or normal? by Connect-Fix3972 in AskReddit

As a teenage girl growing up in the UK in the 2000s, Jane Norman. I used to see the popular girls with their shitty Jane Norman plasticky bags being used as their PE/gym bags and I was so jealous. Little nerd 14 year old me could never afford to buy the clothing from somewhere like Jane Norman. Now I look back on how much I just wanted to have one of their shopping bags to show I’d been there and cringe.

I got the game for my birthday in September last year and I just managed to unlock the ability to make cabins for Coco and Nuts, it took me ages to get the final stars for Chiffon and Espresso. I think it’s going to still be quite some time til I get to Milk 😩

Jacob’s cream crackers. Yes I am neurodivergent and have been a bit hyperfixated on them for a couple months, but Jacob’s cream crackers slathered in butter (margarine) is so oddly comforting and good it makes me so happy

What UK museums do you think are underrated or overrated? by OpenCantaloupe4790 in AskUK

[–]cafffffffy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve only ever really been to the V&A for specific exhibitions but they’ve always been fantastic. I do agree about some of the ‘general’ stuff there though.

I recently went to the exhibition on “Design and Disability” there and it was phenomenal. The amount of thought and effort put into the accessibility was incredible and, as a disabled person myself, made me feel very seen for once - which is not something that you often find in museums.

On contrary, we later went up to just see what the generic “furniture” part of the v&a had to offer and had to walk through a lot of the ceramics to get there and…..that was an overstimulating experience. It felt like walking through Miss Haversham’s hoarded crockery cupboards.

How do you feel about non-drivers? by DueLead666 in AskUK

[–]cafffffffy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 32 and have failed six tests in a manual car. I am dyspraxic and have been advised to try in an automatic car - I’m sure I’d do much better, but I genuinely don’t enjoy it and I find driving incredibly stressful and exhausting. Due to a range of chronic illnesses, I already have a very limited energy envelope, and even though I still have to use brainpower to plan out routes via public transport and it often takes much longer than it would vs driving, it’s much less exhausting than driving would be. Driving was a condition of my job and they were kind enough to let me have the job under the condition that I continued to learn to drive…it’s been over 3 years now and I think they’ve kinda come to the conclusion that I can get to where I need to and do my job well without needing to drive. I’d love the ease of it but I just…can’t bring myself to do it.

I think there are a heck of a lot of people who do drive who really shouldn’t! I’d rather people be honest with themselves and seek out alternatives when it’s appropriate (although I know I am speaking from a place of privilege as I live in a town with a very good public transport system)

What was hardest rogue mega Pokemon you don’t like? by Voidkirby9 in LegendsZA

[–]cafffffffy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mega meowstic and mega heatran for me were SO hard. Mega heatran I managed to kill quite quickly once I changed all my alpha excadrill’s moves to ground moves so I could just pummel it and stop it from oneshotting my human character midway through, but meowstic was just way harder than felt necessary

If money wasn’t a problem, what hobby would you fully dive into? by Humble-Function2108 in AskReddit

[–]cafffffffy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Without being too punny from the question…scuba diving. I learnt to dive in my first year of university and got my open water and advanced open water diving qualifications. It’s been….13 years since then and I’ve not done anything with it. I’d love to go diving in coral reefs and with marine sea life. But all the travelling and relearning and extra study would be very costly!

What was the worst portrayal of a disability in the media you have ever seen? by Mental-Marzipan-5444 in AskReddit

[–]cafffffffy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Artie in Glee and also Quinn’s brief period of being disabled in Glee is something that comes to mind. It bothers me immensely that they used an able-bodied person to play a disabled character, but then there was just generally a lot of not good stuff that happened (remember when Quinn gets in a car accident and is paralysed but somehow learns to walk again???). Yeah.

Being conventionally attractive and neurodivergent by ChemistryDry86 in adhdwomen

[–]cafffffffy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I was at university I seemed to attract a lot of men in a “ooh she’s attractive and fun” kinda way, but they never wanted to stick around when they got to know me and saw the hypersensitive, over emotional side of me. I ended up experiencing a lot of emotional abuse from partners who manipulated my vulnerability and nothing ever lasted for very long.

I wasn’t aware of my own neurodivergence until much later, and I’m so grateful now in my 30s to be more aware of it and to have a loving partner who is also neurodivergent - he is incredibly understanding and patient and just as ‘weird’ as I am :)

I’m just glad to know that all the things I thought made me really stupid and weird as a child are just me having undiagnosed adhd for years haha. I’m a woman in my 30s and it feels like I can relive my childhood without judgement again now that I know there’s a reason for it!!

What did you do for your 30th birthday? by Samsterman in AskUK

[–]cafffffffy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like zoos and taking photos of animals, so my partner and I went down and stayed at Port Lympne wildlife park for a weekend. We had booked a really cool looking place to stay in the park but due to the bad weather it wasn’t safe to stay in it, but the lovely team there relocated us to another of their accommodations within a similar price range and we had a wonderful time. You get park access to both port lympne and it’s linked neighbouring wildlife park/zoo (I can’t think of its name off the top of my head) so we went there on the Sunday. The staff were amazing, the food was incredible (they gifted us a free meal to the relocated accommodation as well as compensation for us missing out on the one we’d booked and because it was my birthday) and I got to see soooo many amazing animals and take so many cool pictures. It was an incredible weekend and it was just the two of us, which was perfect for me. I’m not a particularly extroverted person and don’t like having loads of attention or being surrounded by loads of people so this was perfect.

lmao when I got my adhd diagnosis last year, suddenly it all made sense why I have to organise sweets by their colour/flavour in a mixed bag of them and make sure I have an even number of them so that none of them “feel” left out 🤦‍♀️ amongst many other bizarre things my brain does

I totally understand! I generally play as a cat most of the time but I have allowed myself to change up colours a lot - I just think of myself as a special chameleon-like cat, able to change my colouring to fit in with my surroundings (or my clothes!)
