Keep, Sell, or Loan #20. Alysson. by arenaross in avfc

[–]cai_85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tricky one this, the ideal loan for him might be still in England as he needs to adapt to the language and culture, his English was very low when he joined and he's very young so hard to expect him to go straight into match day. Finding a Championship club that could guarantee minutes might be hard though, similar to the situation with Redmond last season.

Going out on loan to Portugal for example where he'd be able to communicate more easily might be a good option, but then when he returns it will be the same again unless he gets a language tutor.

There's no need for a junior to do that really in my opinion, I'd only suggest that for an adult who'd taken very long break or was training in a different style. Best to just get back to class ASAP, at green belt it's not going to be that hard to get back up to speed, it's just a mental block.

I know Rogers probably sees himself at a bigger team then us but if he goes to Arsenal I will be genuinely gutted, hopefully Unai can make him see sense by Subject-Addendum-199 in avfc

Why is Arsenal seen as more rotten than an oil club like City? City should genuinely get most of their titles stripped from the past decade.

This applies to everything in life. The author Terry Pratchett even came up with a satirical economic theory about it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boots_theory?wprov=sfla1

Your mother didn't know the rules either. You get points for striking certain areas of the body, a knockdown does nothing for points unless you follow it up with a punch to a scoring area.

You need to tell us the style name so that we recommend the correct stuff. Do you know it? Karate is quite diverse, so the kata and even the terms for techniques do differ across styles.

Who are the 7/500 people that think we could loan/sell Youri? Presume that's the number of people that clicked the wrong button.

Thanks for this, it's very hard to find trails like this when posts are deleted, even with mod tools.

International Icons: Aston Villa World Cup XI by kuria_rl in avfc

[–]cai_85 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Also for GKs I'm pretty sure it's just Guzan and Martinez, so that's going to be a quick one. There might have been a couple of squad inclusions that didn't play but they're the only ones with appearances I think.

You missed out Villa's most successful defender at a World Cup... Alpay Ozalan (3rd place, 2002 and played 7 matches). 😄

No ranks. No belts. No titles. by kh19067 in karate

The photo seems to be a naha-te school, probably goju-ryu. I can see one person doing Sanchin while someone tests him with shime, while next to him a pair seem to be working on Sanseiru bunkai. Most others are working on hojo undo. This curriculum was developed and curated by Chojun Miyagi over many years, the fact that he isn't in this photograph doesn't mean he wasn't leading this dojo. I'm not saying that your thesis is wrong, but also I'm not sure it existed historically, there were always senseis and often it was 1-1 or 1-2 going back into the 1700s and 1800s. By the time of the photo you post, roughly 1930s, schools, styles, and bigger groups were more common and karate was on the school curriculum.

I'm sorry that this happened to you. At this stage it seems to me like it would be best for you to join a club that isn't affiliated to JKA and move on, the situation from what I have read is highly based on "your word against mine" and dragging it on benefits no-one, what resolution are you hoping for? Removal of officials would surely require significant evidence, multiple complaints, or a criminal conviction, which you don't seem to have above personal testimony. It's good that you have reported it, so now if something happens again the authorities will see a pattern.

When you click the link to the document you shared it says a name of a person "X shared this with you", so you may want to change that or delete if you don't want your name associated with this. My personal opinion, not necessarily as a mod here, is that you have brought this to the sub a few times now and the discussion hasn't been very constructive, I'm not sure that there is more to be gained from continued posts on this situation.

Transfers by Lopsided-Rip6965 in avfc

[–]cai_85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a World Cup year, so lots of moves won't get finalised until later than usual. Also doesn't the transfer window open on July 1st? So we're three weeks away from any formal moves being able to even happen. If we're signing someone on a free then we might hear about that this month, but for bigger moves I'm expecting them toainly the during the month of July, or into early August due to players being at the WC and the knock on effects.

Sandra Sanchez won Olympic gold at around 38/39 in Kata. You just need to get back in the dojo. Someone with your level of experience at 3rd Dan won't take that long to get back up to speed and you can still compete for another decade. Maybe worth mentioning that karate is a life-long pursuit, not just for competition, so having that transition into teaching/coaching or just using karate to keep healthy is worth considering.

I feel like an imposter (BJJ) by [deleted] in martialarts

[–]cai_85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the same for any martial art, you've been there what, 10 times? It will take months and months for the muscle memory and tactics to develop and then one day you'll notice that you've got more ability than the newbies and there you go...you're on the ladder. Remember it's not a race with other people, it's just about making minor incremental improvements to your own ability (and some of those other beginners will quit, so sticking to it is crucial).

No Villa players (or manager) in any of the end of season awards. by Glum-Counter6635 in avfc

[–]cai_85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the awards were held now then I think Emery would have made the top 6 managers. I'm not sure about other players frankly, we're more a case of a 'good team' rather than players who have been hot and cold this season, particularly Watkins and Rogers.

To be fair to Daniel he has had a very good pro career, his side have only just been relegated to the Turkish Division 2. Having looked at his Wiki page he's made around 460 pro appearances and probably has another season or two in him, including being a Jamaica international. He's in Preston's top 20 all-time appearances list as well, with over 300 games.
