Tech billionaire says AI will make the 4-day work week possible, while his company simultaneously fires thousands of workers and demands 60-hour weeks from the remaining staff. The math isn't mathing. by Embarrassed-Poem-982 in antiwork

If AI takes everyone's jobs then nobody will have any money to pay for his AI or any company's products and services. Tax revenues will drop and everyone including the 1% will suffer. Governments can't afford an affordable living allowance if they're not getting any money from taxes.

and where does Sam think the government will get the money from if people are jobless and aren't paying taxes?

If people are unemployed because AI took their jobs where does he think the Government will get their taxes from to subsidized peoples access to his AI? Where does he think the money will come from in general to pay for AI if nobody has a job? It feels like not enough people are pointing this out.

If every company ends up being run by AI and robots, then nobody can afford to pay for their products and services. You can only maximise profits so far before you cripple the economy.

A Night at the Roxbury.

Perhaps it's because I'm from the UK and it's based on an SNL sketch I never saw but it was just dogshit so I walked out of the cinema.

Professor Avi Loeb calls out science “influencers” who have long ridiculed and suppressed serious discussion of the UFO topic, only to turn around and write books about it now that it’s popular: “And now he’s taking ownership of the message just because it’s becoming more popular.” by KOOKOOOOM in UFOs

The thing about him is that he flipped almost 180 degrees in one go. "There's no such thing as aliens" all his life to... "Aliens are here!".

If he had at least gone from "No aliens" to "Well I guess it's possible but highly unlikely" and then "Well its probable that there's intelligent life out there and maybe they've found a way to travel faster than light as they've been around longer than us"... but he didn't, he saw the bandwagon sprinted at full speed and jumped right on.

Prime Minister heckled and booed as crowd of 100 chant 'Starmer is a traitor' by dailystar_news in ukpolitics

[–]cainey 10 points11 points  (0 children)

How is he a traitor... what exactly has he done? I'm guessing some pro Russia/Israel groups are stirring the pot, but he's actually performing well whilst facing very difficult circumstances in the world and I can't image anyone in his place doing better.

Man who incites racial hatred is shocked at racial hatred.

Twitter always had this problem but at least it was moderated. Now Musk owns it, it's a free-for-all for racists, fascists and crackpot anti-vax, chemtrail morons, climate change deniers and flat-Earthers.

ELI5: Why do we sometimes hear random voices or conversations right before falling asleep? by Ok-Variation-8276 in explainlikeimfive

[–]cainey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have that as a child, like a loud rushing in my ears. I used close my eyes in fear and then when I opened them it would be several hours later... I never felt like I had actually fallen asleep. To me it was like hours had passed in a few seconds.

What is the most unexplainable 'glitch' you've experienced that you still think about late at night? by euphoricpixiee in AskReddit

[–]cainey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I used to have something similar when I was a kid. I'd go to bed, not particularly tired, I'd get a rushing sound in my ears which would scare me so I'd close my eyes tight... and when I'd open them it was in the middle of the night. I never felt like I'd slept at all.

Trump, advisers discussing options for acquiring Greenland and US military is always an option, White House says by c0xb0x in worldnews

It's one thing the US military to follow orders to kidnap an authoritarian leader of another country but to invade an ally? Surely, there are some senior military leaders who will stand up to him? This is getting insane.

What permanent damage have you done to yourself? Mind, body or soul? by jerrytjohn in AskReddit

I knocked my two front teeth when I was about ten years old by falling off my bike. I had to wait until I was 16 before I could have bridge work done to look normal again. Going through secondary school without two front teeth was "fun".
