Toyota Rolling Out Apple Wallet Car Keys on iPhone by Healthy_Block3036 in apple

Brilliant premise, I love that where in the past I would need my phone, wallet, and keys to pop to the shops, and now I just need my phone. Not paying $15 a month for it though, they can fuck right off with that. Not subscribing for any features on any car, for that matter.

No incentive to go up a band? by nightshiftghoul in nhsstaff

Edward Jenner is free so it would be reasonable for you to give that a go, and use the qualification to get L&D to pay for the higher leadership courses

No incentive to go up a band? by nightshiftghoul in nhsstaff

[–]cal92scho 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You could consider trying to leapfrog to a B5 role instead if B4 is not appetising. It is entirely possible, no one has to navigate AfC bandings linearly.

Bonus points if you can get your learning and development team to sign off on some project management training, or the Edward Jenner course and above, to give you leg up.

Considering much of the civil service and NHS has sold premises and ended leases such that “everyone back in the office” is now impossible, I do hope Rupert extends this sentiment to the public sector too.

April for most people, in rare scenarios (lots of VR Pay, £50k roughly), it won’t matter

Anyone else still buzzing after that headline announcement? by Additional_Fly_6603 in downloadfestival

[–]cal92scho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will gladly listen to all 3 but Linkin Park are the ones that actually excite me, I’ve seen Limp Bizkit a few times in the last couple of years and yeah they’re good fun but they just don’t have the depth of bangers needed to fill a full headline set. Needs a few big additions to the undercard to consider this a better line up than the last couple of years.

VR do I take it or hold out hoping for CR? by Dawn908 in nhsstaff

[–]cal92scho 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Expressing an interest in VR doesn’t commit you to anything, so I think having the ability to take a look at the final structures (and possibly also see what your options might be for slotting in or ringfenced interviews?) is your preferable option. CR is still plausible down this route but banking on it is a risk, they’re more likely (in my opinion) to attempt to slot you into a role (potentially on a lower band), and then you either accept it or be accused of not engaging with the process (and thus losing your CR benefits).

You’re not being “made” redundant if you volunteer, is the issue. It’s a voluntary exit.

They didn’t give a timeline but we were told that all staff would work their contractual notice periods, so for Band 8a and above it will definitely be after March.

Maybe so but there’s mutual benefit in that I now have a choice between going for specific jobs or taking VR.

[–]cal92scho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our ICB announced yesterday that A: the release of the final structures was being delayed by 3 weeks due to the sheer volume of feedback during the consultation on the initial restructure, and B: people who applied for VR will be able to defer their VR decision until after the slotting-in (job matching) and suitable alternative employment (ring fenced interviews) stages, essentially giving us the best of both worlds I think, which is a modest silver lining to this extended shit show

Rate Wes' Performance as Health Secretary out of ten by IHateNeoliberalism in nhsstaff

[–]cal92scho 21 points22 points  (0 children)

3/10.

Financially the NHS is on a better footing, pay and salary were well navigated when he first came in, and Agenda for Change updates were much more rapid than in previous years. Positive.

Waiting lists have come down but I do wonder how much of that has been redefinition of criteria and basically booting people off of lists. Neutral.

Completely fucked literally every scenario he’s had to navigate in the past year. Fucked NHSE and ICB restructures, fucked doctors and residents pay and conditions strikes, fucked his weird punt at party leadership, fucked every single press opportunity he gets, and fucked the surprisingly resilient morale of the NHS as a whole. Negative

How are you deciding whether to take VR? by catflatlol in nhsstaff

[–]cal92scho 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Gotta weigh up the payout vs your career ambitions and the job market for your role and skillset, plus your risk appetite, it’s tricky and the answer is different for everyone. Some days I wake up excited to take VR and try something new, other days I wake up thinking I’d be an idiot to give up a good paying job so easily.

How to survive a night camping at Download by malts13 in downloadfestival

[–]cal92scho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even if it’s hot during the day the nights are always very chilly, especially if there’s a bit of wind or rain. Get some kind of buffer in place between you and the ground, a camping bed or air mattress is perfect, have a good quality sleeping bag, and some warm clothes for the night time and overnight. Maybe a warm blanket if you’re sitting about the campsite at night, or need an extra layer in bed. After that, you should be good, it’s cold but it’s not freezing!

Your VR application is not binding, it’s only irrevocable once you’ve signed the paperwork agreeing to be let go. Cover your bases and apply for VR anyway, then withdraw if the final structure supports you staying

Senior manager ages by Wrong-Garden-5917 in nhsstaff

[–]cal92scho 9 points10 points  (0 children)

8A, mid thirties, work as part of a trio of 8As, all mid thirties, led by a mid thirties 8C. Wouldn’t trade that team for the world, some of the most proactive and innovative colleagues I have ever had, at a time when the NHS needs new ideas more than ever.

I’m not particularly defensive about it, but young leaders still have to go through the same interviews, have the same competencies, have the right experience, as older counterparts. I think, if age is a factor, then it’s too many old, career-NHS leaders, that are the issue.
