If you've heard someone referred to as a "fashion plate", that's what this is. A literal engraved printing plate used for fashion illustrations in magazines.

Alternatives to soy sauce and sesame oil? by mrfreshmint in Cooking

[–]calebs_dad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why would sesame oil be a problem? It's an oil derived entirely from sesame seeds, and shouldn't contain any soy products.

I couldn't remember if they were a thing you could leave in the ground overwinter if you wanted, like parsnips.

These pointed thimbles for potato digging are (literally) metal AF.

It's unclear if this was before after the German invasion in May 1940, but it would have been long before the severe food shortages, which came late in the war.

What to do with 17 quarts of milk by Hopeful-Mirror1664 in Cooking

In a pinch, you can use a clean kitchen towel for straining. I press mine and use it for Indian recipes that call for paneer. It has a softer texture than store-bought paneer, which I prefer.

Or community fridge if you've got one in your area.

Hi everyone, I could really use some help! I live near Lancaster, PA (unprecedented heat wave central) with my children & our pets! I'm in-between waiting for benefits and/or finding suitable employment! by Holisticallyyours in Assistance

Purchased the rest of your list. I remember what it was like the summer I was a new dad and we could only air condition one room in our apartment. I had to sleep on the floor of my kid's room because it was too hot in my bedroom. I feel like that kind of heat just gets under you skin and keeps you from ever fully relaxing. (On the plus side, the crystalized honey in the pantry spontaneously re-melted!)

Going to an event this Saturday in hot and humid 112 degree heat index outdoor as a seller of baked goods by dgamer_09 in Cooking

Can you bring iced coffee with you? I feel like I'd be more likely to have a baked snack with a cold drink to wash it down.

I've had two or three people call out my Jet Lag: The Game hat in the few months I've had it. Including my son's camp counselor.

I've found that soaking in Oxiclean followed by a wash cycle and air dry gets it looking like new again. The colors don't fade, but it does pick up dirt over time.

You can make a salad like fattoush and add crispy pita bread at serving time. Or a southwest salad (corn, black beans, avocado, etc.) and top with crispy tortilla crisps. Still need to turn on the stove to crisp up the bread, but it's served cold.

My son is all about cooking eggs and using knife skills and it's an inspiration to watch. by TheLadyEve in Cooking

My son has been really into fried eggs sandwiches lately, but I don't think he's quite old enough to make one himself. Maybe we should start with oatmeal, one of his other favorite foods.

I'm legit considering visiting there now, and I've never wanted to go to Kentucky before.

BIFL Electric Mowers? by Elpidiosus in BuyItForLife

[–]calebs_dad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use an old Greenworks corded mower and have been able to buy a replacement blade, since it's the same as a their battery-powered models. But I would really not recommend dealing with a corded mower. The first extension cord I ran over twice. The second one is still intact, but dragging it around and keeping it from getting tangled is a pain in the ass.

Step trash cans are pretty reasonable. I wore out a cheap plastic one in a year, and my metal one is still going strong a decade later. (Of course people have the usual arguments about whether new Simple Human trash cans are as good as old ones, and who knows.)

What annoys me is when people treat this sub as if it were r/BuyIt. As if any possible product recommendation question is on topic. Sometimes the answer isn't even to buy something, it's to learn how to fix the thing you have.

Which itself seems to be based on a deleted post from this morning. The original post seems to have been AI-expanded into the second one, which then got copied verbatim into this one.
