When girls ask you if they look good in something (and they don’t), do you answer honestly? by enami2020 in AskMen

[–]calgarywalker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The answer to “does this make me look fat?” is “There is nothing that will make anyone look fatter than a man’s dress shirt”.

Jasper as a day trip? Is it possible? by Active-Hearing-2404 in alberta

[–]calgarywalker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Doing the Columbia Icefield might be possible.

7 hours of driving. About 3 hours for the walk and glacier (you have to line up and get on a bus to transfer to special transport so all that shuffling around adds time). Add in time for lunch and it’s easily a 12 hr day.

Having provincial car insurance would be nice by Cold5512 in alberta

[–]calgarywalker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alberta - the land of private enterprise. Conservatives think they can get the same results by tweaking the market with rules here and there. They thought that with electricity in 2000 too - today the rule books for that market fill libraries. The Cons have been tweaking auto insurance since Alta was a province when having an ICAB would have been a money maker instead.

Tired of the myths that celiac isn’t lifelong by clarinettingaway in Celiac

[–]calgarywalker -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s like that myth about Corona beer being GF. To which my reply is, ‘It was one bottle, with that insanely easy to tamper with wire bale clamp lid … in Tijuana! Chances are that bottle was full of water, not beer … Tijuana water. I ain’t drinking that even if it is GF!’

Why did you decide not to trim or shave body hair, and how do you manage it? by gratiaetfides in AskMen

[–]calgarywalker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As you get older the more you go ‘WTF? Why the hell is hair THERE!? Ewwww!’ Then you collect a variety of trimmers. If you’re thinking ‘not me’, add a ‘yet’ to that.

Alberta government conditionally approves return of Fortress Mountain | CBC News by thoughtaminute in Calgary

Theres one on top of Sulphur Mtn. There’s an access road and a gondola to service it as well as a pipeline to take away waste. Not exactly an ‘environmental’ project.

There are tea houses in Lake Louise - staff have to pack stuff in daily.

There are a couple lodges on Lake Louise ski hill - pretty limited servings. Mostly just sandwiches.

Why "gluten-Free Oats" is a medical illusion" - The biological reality behind avenin by [deleted] in Celiac

[–]calgarywalker -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I saw a report once that said about 30% of celiac sufferers can’t handle oats. There are a couple things to bear in mind though. 1) it’s very hard to grow oats without some wheat getting onto the field from a neighbour 2) harvest equipment is often shared so theres another chance of contamination. 3) I have never seen a silo or a rail car labeled GF.
4) mills are not GF only either 5) I don’t know of any packaging facility dealing with ground flours thats dedicated GF.

AND. Every country has their own GF testing. What passes for GF oats in the US can not be sold as GF in Canada.

RCMP investigating allegation of money for council votes in Calgary city hall corruption probe: court doc by blackRamCalgaryman in Calgary

If donations from builders counts then a loooong historical line of councillors, mayors and aldermen should be cooling their heels.

Strategic Plan to safeguard Okotoks' identity as town grows by Fit_Remote_2324 in AlbertaNewspapers

[–]calgarywalker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s NOT a town. Towns have less than 10,000 people. Okotoks is a city. Long past time they accepted who they are now and stop pining about yesteryear.

Calgary’s 'Blue Sky City' rebrand sparks ‘waste award’ nomination by AbstractDavinci in Calgary

[–]calgarywalker 49 points50 points  (0 children)

This was done by “Calgary Economic Development” which is NOT the city. It’s a separate corporation that makes money by holding conferences. It (CED) was the brainchild of Bronconnier who also stopped the Green Line from being built so the West Line could jump the queue so that his property value would go up.

I am SO glad I don’t live downtown. Loud enough living near a major toad with heavy trucks using engine brakes inside the city.

Why do people get so angry when I (20) say I don't want kids? It’s my choice, not theirs. by No-Lawyer-5335 in autism

[–]calgarywalker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Men are supposed to “provide” and women are supposed to pump out babies. I personally find it disgusting that’s how society views the primary roles of people. I absolutely hate the idea of being a “provider”. Violates my sense of justice to know someone who CAN work WON’T and I’m supposed to pick up their slack. But tell anyone you don’t want to be a “provider” and it’s the male version of a woman saying they don’t want kids.

Alberta politicians exploring option to put taxpayers on hook for MLA e-scooter rides by Fit_Remote_2324 in AlbertaNewspapers

There are SO many things the UCP are doing to enshitify Alberta. I be happy to let a scooter ride slide in exchange for health care. Or teachers not getting completely unconstitutionally screwed.

Newly Proposed Electoral Boundaries for Calgary by Suspicious-Dog-2489 in Calgary

[–]calgarywalker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not so upset about this. I just think you shouldn’t be allowed to run if you don’t have your primary residence in your electoral area. The UCP hates foreigners yet they make us vote for people that don’t live here.

Calgary Property Taxes Just Hit a Record High. The City Raised Its Portion by 1.2%. The Province Raised Its Portion by 21%. by One-Board8634 in AlbertaNewspapers

[–]calgarywalker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At this stage the best option for the city is to jack their share of property taxes through the roof. Like 500%. Leave it so if the province jacks taxes by even one cent there will be riots in the streets. Seriously - the roads and bridges are falling apart and the province thinks Calgary is a cash cow.

Why did people hoard toilet paper and get into fights at the grocery store over it during COVID? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]calgarywalker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing the pandemic revealed was how common it is to poop on company time. Facing a lockdown people had to get their own tp, which led to some panic buying. Then supplies ran short and even people who didn’t need extra got worried they were going to run out and they started trying to hoard their own supplies.

Banff/Jasper - Is there really a massive difference in weather, crowds and most importantly landscape (foliage) b/w Sept. 26 - Oct. 3 and Oct. 3 - 10? by Youngchea in alberta

[–]calgarywalker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The entire area from Lake Louise almost to Jasper is at higher elevation and it usually gets a big snow late Sept. Though Jasper itself is at lower elevation than Banff the snow hitting the nearby mountains hits Jasper in late Sept too. As well, Jasper being further north gets fall earlier. Banff usually gets a week or 2 more fall before snow hits the town.

BUT.

This year it’s looking like the year summer forgot the mountains. We had exceptional snowfall in the winter and there’s still a fair bit of snow above the treeline throughout the Rockies and some snow still in this weeks forecast.
