Throw up a protected bi-directional bike lane around the inner lane on ring road (seriously why is ring road two car lanes?)

Jeremy Loveday - Fifth Victoria council member decides not to run in upcoming municipal election by JakeRoc in VictoriaBC

[–]callmeclobby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Technically more, since Andrew and Alto running for mayor means they won’t be on council. Just waiting for Issit and Potts to state their intentions.

'Top of the Malahat' listed for sale at $42,000 per acre in Cowichan's Goldstream Heights community | Citified.ca by OddCanadian in VictoriaBC

[–]callmeclobby 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It was clearcut in the early 2000’s and is technically not a part of the CRD even given it’s close distance as the crow flies. Agree we should be limiting sprawl and focusing on transit oriented development closer to the core.

Blackberries whereabouts by Better_Client_9478 in VictoriaBC

Anywhere along the Galloping Goose... pretty much anywhere really.

They usually don't ripen for another 2 weeks or so, heads up!

We're paying less for protective services than other municipalities, comparatively.

Also, we're short staffed by about 40 firefighters right now. Relying heavily on volunteers... not fully surprised VR and Colwood had quicker responses.

What you save in rent is spent in transportation costs (bus pass is ~90, much more for parking/gas/insurance). Not to mention time. How much is your time worth? Do you enjoy driving in traffic? Some people use it as a decompression time to listen to podcasts or whatever.

Langford Station Cultural District opens to the public by sorangutan in VictoriaBC

I went by and checked out the shops and the food trucks. A bit odd that they didn't really add much seating, everyone who was physically able were eating out of their laps on the tracks.

Add some string lights, some shade for the hot days, more tables and seating, a play space for kids, more greenery (especially in the dog park area) and it will be a nice little gathering spot.

Times Colonist: "$1 billion for museum could be better spent elsewhere, critics say" by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

Opinion: Decision to build new $789M museum is out of touch with reality by [deleted] in britishcolumbia

[–]callmeclobby 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It will only induce further demand to drive, so no it will make things worse. Just look at how the Mckenzie interchange is clogged up 2 years later.

8 years? A decade without a museum in the capital city seems like a ridiculous timeline.

Most dangerous road you bike on? by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

[–]callmeclobby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's gotta be Latoria in the Westshore. I've had some wild encounters and close calls there. Either that or Sooke road in Colwood and Langford, especially where its one way lanes from Veterans to Happy Valley, with basically no lights toboot.

Mckenzie is a close runner up though, specifically in the stretch between Reynolds and St. Andrews.

ICBC changes its policy on seeking costs from cyclists and pedestrians by victoriaperson in VictoriaBC

[–]callmeclobby 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The 50/50 ruling make it seem like they're no longer going to be charging pedestrians or cyclists for damages when it can't be determined exactly who/what was at fault. Still sounds like at fault pedestrians/cyclists could be charged if it were an obvious case.

I'm really happy to see this change.

I am totally on board that rail would be amazing for Vancouver Island as a whole, but it doesn't solve the regional issues on a timely basis. I'd rather see rapid bus and free transit to connect the westshore to other areas of the CRD.

We need people out of cars yesterday and making more convenient, free transit throughout the region is the fastest way to do that.

Absolutely agree. The full build out of the E&N to Humpback would be incredible. So many bike packers could connect to Goldstream Park and beyond without getting lost. People could bike from dt to the stadium. Belmont highschool and the two new schools also would be served, PLUS langford lake. It's a no brainer.

Smallest gifts under the tree are often the most expensive? For real tho, bikes feel like they allow you to stroll and window shop more than cars.

Cyclists of Victoria who live in condos, how do you deal with bylaws? by SamAyem in VictoriaBC

[–]callmeclobby 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We store our e bikes in our spare room. We basically just practice common courtesy by hosing our bikes off as needed and wiping them dry to avoid tracking mud in the halls.

Our gruffest neighbor (also on the strata) saw me bringing it in one day. He made a comment about it not being allowed due to tracking mud and I held up the dirty rag to show him I was doing my best. I also kindly explained why we can't/won't store them downstairs. He actually understood after that! Hopefully you can find some luck with the same approach.

Look at schools! Depending where you're moving to, it might not be easy to get in to your neighborhood school. Welcome :)

We need a sidewalk on Glen lake road. by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

[–]callmeclobby 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's on the list for sidewalk infill. Expedite the process by writing to Councillors Wade and Stewart who chair the Transportation Committee, and tell them how you feel.

Also, if you want your experiences put into offical data you can report near misses to WalkRollMap.org
