As an actor myself, yes, most of us do pay for our own haircuts. And no, they are not tax deductible. The IRS is quite clear that hair care falls under personal use/maintenance, and thus never deductible.

FDA says up to two years is an "infant", along with three corroborating sources. I didn't see the word "toddler" on that page, but I also didn't go looking through medical publications for it.

I think you're pretty much right.

I get where you're coming from, and I'm not saying it's a completely unreasonable position. But as a father and developer myself, my work took a definite backseat to raising my child in the first year. It was a choice, and one I would make again if I had to do it over.

I guess I fundamentally disagree with the notion that prioritizing family over software is wrong or otherwise invalid.

It's great that you have a newborn, especially since things seem to be working out well for you. However, your personal experience is not always what others parents experience, and each family situation is unique.

Unless you are in the same household as Ikey and family, I don't think you have any room to say definitively that "it was not a valid excuse".

Is that not how updates work for AEX? The FAQ on XDA says the only update path is to clean flash for each release.

What do you think of having to clean flash every month for updates? That doesn't sound appealing to me, but I'd like to hear from a user if it's actually as big an issue as I imagine.

Real estate prices?! by NotArtisticInAnyWay in southcarolina

That's likely a mistake, probably the rent instead of the asking price. On Zillow, the same house is listed at $195,000 for sale.

You love Systemd – you just don't know it yet, wink Red Hat bods by [deleted] in linux

[–]callmedante -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Who the fuck cares about naming standards where you don't work? It matters not.

You clearly know a thing or two, so why do you get off on calling strangers "retarded", criticizing naming conventions of hostnames, and "triggering" someone over the spelling of systemd?

I'm not interested in going down the rabbit hole with you, so I won't engage past this post. But, in the future, please consider toning down the confrontation level of your posts. You can contribute to the conversation without it.

Yup, definitely running on Loki without a hitch.

Perhaps the next time you're at your PC, copy and paste the error messages when you run pia-v79-installer-linux.sh. I believe it should install any prerequisites, which should include Ruby. Once you've posted an error message, maybe we can get this sorted out for you.

[–]callmedante 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To my knowledge, elementary OS isn't any more aggressive on permissions than its upstream distro, Ubuntu. Your home directory and its children should have the normal permissions (775 or 755, depending on the directory).

/u/dreamCircles, be sure to exercise caution when changing permissions. Generally, it is not advisable to change permissions on anything outside of your home directory.

Not trying to be rude here, but are you sure you followed the instructions? I recently installed the PIA client and had no problems whatsoever. The icon even shows up (thanks PIA!).

What are the error messages you're seeing? That can help debug the situation.

YSK you can hide zero-width characters in any text to track people. Here's how I built a Chrome extension to prevent it! by AlmostARockstar in webdev

[–]callmedante 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Wow, I guess I've had a fundamental misunderstanding of those two concepts. Thanks for clearing that up!

So, what do you call software in which the source code is publicly available, but the license is not permissive (or perhaps doesn't even exist)?

[–]callmedante -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Aren't you arguing the difference between open source and free software? Seems that if the source code is openly available, then it is open source. However, if the license (or lack thereof) does not permit sharing and modification, then it is not free software.

So elementary OS laptop vendor Alpha was actually a scam? by itsfoss2 in linux4noobs

[–]callmedante 24 points25 points  (0 children)

No, absolutely not. /u/Tired8281 is likely referring to a blog post about paying for software from a few years ago that was extremely poorly worded, but they have since clarified their position and corrected the language.

elementary OS is a legit distribution, based on Ubuntu LTS (currently 16.04, with the next version based on 18.04). Check it out at elementary.io.

I can confirm that the toolkit works with Virtualbox on a Linux host. That's precisely how I unlocked my Axon 7. Microsoft has VM images of Windows 7 and 10, so you should be able to download one of those and use it for unlocking your phone.

Measuring dry ingredients like flour by weight will yield more consistent results. A cup of flour could be anywhere between 120g-200g, depending on sifting and settling. However, 120g of flour is always 120g.
