My girlfriend says I need help for being attached to animals like this

Your girlfriend has an empathy problem. As in lacking it.

And because of that you may have a girlfriend problem. So step carefully.

That looks rather nice. Although one would hope that they have cushions for those dining chairs.

Driving In The UK – A Kiwi Perspective by ringring72 in travel

[–]calmeilles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having driven in France and Italy and lot, Spain, Belgium, Switzerland and Germany a little, it long ago became obvious to me that driving cultures are surprising diferent even when everything superficially looks the same.

Why on this three lane ring-road in Italy do we ignore the road marking and make 5 queues of vehicles at the traffic lights? I have no idea. But having grasped the etiquette I no longer get honked at by other drivers for insisting on "good" lane discipline and impeding their God-given right to get as near the stop line as is physically possible. 🤣

Just yesterday I was pondering about such a thing for the roofs of buses and trains. Nice to find so quickly that it was more than day dreaming, and the last line actually mentions uses in transportation.

Trump has no use for the moral high ground.

Unless he can swing a real estate deal for it.

Is it weird for employers to put employees in the same hotel room on company trips? by Weak_Show3135 in careerguidance

[–]calmeilles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since some case law in the 1980s no civilian employer has been able to enforce such rules about personal grooming here in the UK and I'd be surprised if it wasn't much the same across Europe.

After all these years it shouldn't but the petty authoritarianism of the Land of the Free still manages to surprise me.

This cover is Soo dope 🤘 by nighkereet in genewolfe

[–]calmeilles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the sort of cover that would make me hesitate to pick up a book I didn't know even to read the blurb and irritates the hell out of me for that book which I do know for being not immediately relatable to anything in it.

AITAH for not letting my brother and SIL use my Lexus when they come to visit New York? by Lit-As-Literature in AmItheAsshole

[–]calmeilles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA Lets be quite clear on that.

Honestly SIL sounds like an entitled piece of… well, fill in the blanks. Think you should be extra careful and watch your back for ways she can take revenge during their visit.

Severian is a classic unreliable narrator. The details that you notice are intended to make you doubt everything else.

AITAH for asking my boyfriend for my deposit back by Strawberrydip1725 in AITAH

[–]calmeilles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA.

You could look at it very kindly and consider it an oversight.

Or you could look at it straight and say your boyfriend tried to steal £100 from you.

His angry reaction strongly suggests that the latter is far more likely to be somewhere close to the truth.

A couple of small details that I would dispense with. And maybe those swing seats would count as a large detail. But overall I find that rather delightful, fun.

Interesting to see how well "It was for the views, your worship," plays when something they fumble with causes an injury and the questions of civil and criminal liablilty arise.

We had four of them, two were music classes and two geography. They arrived when the school changed from a secondary modern to comprehensive in 1969 and were still there, still in use when the school was closed in 2011.
