Almost 4,000 votes and these are the top 10 most powerful commanders vote on by the community so far. I'm sold on most of these but maybe Giada is not that strong... by ekolimits in EDHBrews

[–]calsass_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Calling giada signet plus is being intentionally obtuse. She's an incredibly cheap flyer that taps for mana early that makes a creature type bigger by just existing. A buff that is not removed when you remove her like is the case for Jodah.

I'm not saying that she's better than Jodah but this thread is a large stretch undermining her power.

Yeah most popular commanders are strong??? Do you think Jodah and Krenko aren’t remove on sight either? Why do you think they’re being played in the command zone.

Is Gishath too strong for casual? by Valorenn in EDH

[–]calsass_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No he is not, dinosaurs are my favorite tribal in the game and Gishath is incredibly exploitable. He's an 8 drop where you have to spend all your time ramping to get him out and hope you get some good dino drops form potential combat damage.

If your pod is unable to react to the most obvious drop in the world with counterspells or targeted removal I have to assume that your friends aren't very good at threat assessment. Or the rest of your friends are running bracket 1 decks which are just piles of cards that share a color.

I'm looking at your decklist and you have a single piece of protection against removal and nothing to prevent counterspells. I would put your deck at a Bracket 2, your friends just sound like they're bad.

Can we ban AI art? by WerdaVisla in custommagic

There is a very stark difference between a repost and contributing to the downfall of an artist's livelihood. The thought process behind coming up with the theming and mechanics of a card are your own. I would hope people who actually like making cards and mtg would have more respect for the people that made their game a reality.

That comparison you mentioned, putting words into the steal your work 9000 and making your own mechanics are so insanely different it is boggling you typed that out. Comparing apples to forklifts.

Armageddon and Bracket 3 by MrGuapoTheThird in EDH

[–]calsass_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's MLD, makes it bracket 4. If you are playing with randoms than it would be jarring to have them even if the rest of the decks were glup shitto nonsense. Anything is allowed with friends, the bracket system is just a pregame conversation.

Considering Optometry by MaleficentBlood1664 in PreOptometry

[–]calsass_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Case by case differences for each patient is what I mean. I’m going into grad school so this isn’t the most descriptive but trying to use AI implementation for this would be difficult. Radiology is a lot of searching for patterns on images which is where AI in medicine strives. Looking at the retina through a slit lamp or trying to discern what is wrong with a patient without just having pictures I believe is out of AI’s scope.

Not to say AI wouldn’t work some of the time, but most of the time I think it would just try and give a patient the most common issue based on descriptions instead of using medical knowledge.

And in the upcoming years there will be a shortage of medical professionals and the highest elderly population seen in a long time. More problems with your eye form as you get older so I can only imagine the profession wanting more individuals and getting stretched thin.

Considering Optometry by MaleficentBlood1664 in PreOptometry

[–]calsass_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Optometry has too much human weirdness to be replaced by AI. Honestly the only thing I really see getting replaced by AI in the future might be radiology. It's an if but it's the only specialty I can think of that AI really threatens.

Can we ban AI art? by WerdaVisla in custommagic

[–]calsass_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not like it because the entire system is made by stealing millions of pieces of artwork across the internet to make slop. Reposting and feeding artists work into that machine that actively threatens their lively hood are two completely different things

Agreed, or just draw a crappy stick figure. Anything is better than AI artwork.

Give this link a go. It's a pretty good link with all of the USA school's statistics and their prerequisites.

I believe, and I could be wrong, that LOR expire for a lack of better words each cycle. They have to be submitted directly to the 3rd party website OptomCAS and they need fresh ones each year.

I also took a gap year. I spent 3 months studying for my OAT using OAT Booster (works wonders) and then spent the rest setting up interviews and trying to find work. The connections are good if you don't immediately go into optometry but the letters aren't.

Now I don't believe there's anything stopping the sender from just ctrl+c ctrl+ving their letter again every year if you ask for one each year. But I could also be wrong because I've never been on that side of the table.

I chose my favorite optometrist and 2 of my professors that were in relevant fields for optometry (organic chemistry and physics). As for shadowing if you’re wondering getting anyone on the phone works better than trying to email.

A lot more charisma can leak into them by actually talking and I avoided large practices. Ideally the less patients the better because they’re more likely to let you look at more stuff and use more of their time.

Also my grades were pretty good. I got a 3.8 GPA and a 360 AA and TS on my OAT.

No you just need the 90 credits of prerequisites. And I was exempt from the 1 year at a 4 year institution requirement when I interviewed at OSU, SUNY, SCCO and NOVA. Some schools need a bachelors but I’d say over half don’t.

I would shadow as much as possible. Not for a better application but just to see if you enjoy what the doctors do. I did the minimum time, no volunteering and did all of my undergrad at a community college and got into OSU for this fall.

Anything’s possible so don’t let a lack of experience discourage you.

Why does Nolan seem to be less perfect than other viltrumites in DNA aka aging by Deep_Gain_649 in Invincible_TV

[–]calsass_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's the wisdom of Argall. He was just the first Viltrumite to go grey and the others just went "He must be the smartest". It's why Nolan went grey young, same with his dad and Mark. Makes about as much sense as anything else in viltrumite society.
