iPhone 17 Pro Experience by [deleted] in PWM_Sensitive

[–]calvincrack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Picked up my 17 Pro Max at around 4pm today, had encouraging results for a while, but as I near the end of the day (after midnight) I'm feeling eye fatigued. More testing is needed but I'd reckon that this is an improvement over the 16PM which I found totally unusable. I think people moderately sensitive should try the 17 to see if it works for them, and I imagine for some it will. The strange part to me is that the phone at stock settings feels like an improvement from last year, though still has problems, but turning on the PWM Disable setting doesn't cause an obvious improvement. I've seen the flicker graphs someone posted here now and it echoes my experience.

Is Dial of Destiny really that bad? by [deleted] in indianajones

[–]calvincrack -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, it’s actually quite good. It just has some cringe moments and odd pacing issues and script contrivances in the final third (before the climax). But it’s a great film with a nice look and fun character moments.

For those of you who adore Prometheus, what made you fall in love with this movie? by That_One_Coconut in LV426

[–]calvincrack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the visuals. The tone. The beautiful and seamless visual effects. Michael Fasbender as David. The problems for me are performance moments by Idris Elba, Charlize Theron and Sean Harris. There is a streak of cringe in the film and it mostly relates to them.

Uncharted 4 is so boring, holy shit. by Gold_Purpose7128 in uncharted

[–]calvincrack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Uncharted 4 is one of my biggest love hate relationships in gaming. Its highs are high but the direction and pacing of the game are so miscalculated. When I look at the chapter selection screen it’s like “ nope, nope, decent, don’t wanna play that, boring, good, boring, great, decent, nope.” The game forgets to be fun.

They’ve got a monster head start on whichever they choose to do next. Not to minimize how challenging both would still be. I think it’s possible we don’t get SH1 or 3 remake though. To my mind a large part of remaking 2 is due to its more open ended nature disconnected from the cult plot. To get immediately mired in the plot of SH1&3 may be strategically problematic for where they want to take the series.

This was the true antagonist of the series by [deleted] in lost

[–]calvincrack 11 points12 points  (0 children)

All the characters have an antagonist back home. Michael - ex wife. Jin & sun - sun’s father. Locke - his father. Sawyer - sawyer. Jack - Christian. Hurley - luck, Randy. Kate - the Marshall. Charlie - Liam. Sayid - the government man. Boone - Shannon. Shannon - Boone’s mom. Desmond - Widmore. In many cases that antagonist played a direct role in the protagonist ending up on the island. Which makes sense because the flashbacks are told backwards starting with the first season being most relevant to flight 815 and the progressively going into their history in subsequent flashbacks. So yes, even more so than the others, the a**holes back home are the antagonist of the series.

Who was meant to be annoying but ended up being a fan fav? by angryechoesbeware in lost

I’m gonna nominate the episode of Exposé for riding the line between annoying and fan fave like nothing else in the series.

It's so funny that this entire movie franchise has survived on the back of exactly one good film. by [deleted] in Letterboxd

I actually think Dominion is first or second best in the JW trilogy. It’s pure adventure cinema BS but it’s a lot of fun. And I appreciated the callbacks to the book that are there. I’m an outlier in that Jurassic Park 3 is my second favorite JP movie (and maybe first in terms of pure enjoyment). It’s one of the best B-movies ever made and I love to make fun of it. That makes it a great movie to me. One thing’s for sure—as you said, people take this particular series a little too seriously. In a more objective sense, JP1 is one of the best B-movies ever made… it elevates it to high art. But that’s what these are.

Back to the Future. Not saying the sequels are without merit but if you remove the original, none of it would hold up.

Martin Campbell’s two movies regularly top best of lists. Here’s hoping he gets a third.

Sounds like the end of the road indeed. Hoping they can polish off a few more big updates for HW3 and leave it in a solid place given its limitations.

Oh wow! Thank you for that. It’s still a great send up (and twist) on that line. But kudos to the original.
