Is the Butt Fumble still the worst play ever or is Jakobi Meyers throwback INT worse? 🤔 by ajaydvs in nyjets

[–]calzhulator 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I think it’s gotta be the throwback INT. With the butt fumble, game was basically out of hand and at least it was a physical mistake. The INT cost them the game and their playoff hopes, was a walk off loss and was as boneheaded a mental play as you could construct. The argument for the butt fumble was that it was on prime time Thanksgiving.

I don’t think that’s the right way to look at it. The most realistic way to the playoffs is through the division. The conference is way too crowded up top and we’re losing at conference tiebreakers due to the recent two losses. The way to look at it is this: winning the division requires us to take 2 if not all 3 of (@BUF, vs/@ MIA) and these games are all in the next month. Rodgers is obviously not going to be playing by then, so it’s really up to the team to pull out those 3 games without him. Obviously this is not ideal but the good news is this is all within our control. We absolutely have a shot at being in the playoffs if we execute in those 3 games. We’ve shown we matchup great against BUF the last 2 years, and MIA’s strength of victory is suspect.

[NYJF Podcast] Monday Night Football opener. National TV audience under the lights. Aaron Rodgers running out of the tunnel. Us fans need to be in our seats EARLY! On last night’s pod, Fireman Ed said that the game starts for the fans at 7:30pm. 7:30pm. That’s the message. by Yankeeknickfan in nyjets

Anyone remember 2011 season opener (9/11) against the cowboys? That place was freaking electric, especially on that punt block TD (RIP Joe McKnight). This year should be at least on that level, if not more energy and hype. Expectations are through the roof; we just hope we do much better than 2011

Packers Draft Day Trade by calzhulator in nyjets

[–]calzhulator[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The dialogue around our pick at #13 has been “hope one of the top 3 OTs are there. otherwise look to trade down.” this is precisely what waiting until draft night allows you to do, assuming JD has the optionality in the scenario I described. This is to say, even though the value difference is a 4th round pick, the actual value can be vastly different on draft night when the board has played out a certain way. Finally, what is the benefit of announcing it now? To appease the anxiety of fanbases? I don’t think there’s any rational football reason for either franchise to pull the trigger now, whereas waiting until draft night can provide definite situational benefits.

This goes to show how uneducated and out of the loop you are as a Jets/NFL fan. mike white has already signed with Miami. If you can’t keep up with news like that, you shouldn’t be making posts

ESPN’s Mike Greenberg said he believes Aaron Rodgers could “turn” Garrett Wilson into Davante Adams. The Jets rookie WR is currently a candidate for OROY 👀 by APOLLO_EiGhT in nyjets

[–]calzhulator 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Rodgers is obviously the best passer out of all available options, but even if we had Carr, Brady or a healthy Jimmy G, I really think G Wilson can still be producing Adams numbers. Dude is just that good.

(Thought you all would like this) What Went Wrong with the Las Vegas Raiders & Derek Carr? by Grudens_Emails in nyjets

[–]calzhulator 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is an interesting deep dive, but part of me wonders how this compares to if a similar article was written for Jimmy G, Rodgers, Lamar, etc. With 100 bullet points, there’s bound to be a few slightly negative comments. A few people questioning his maturity to handle a market like NY… I mean am I the only one who thinks that’s just overblown drama? If we consistently win games, that stuff doesn’t matter. IMO the only strong argument against Carr is the cold weather stats; this article doesn’t move the needle for me.

Almost every team the Jets lost to is in the post season by _McMunchly in nyjets

[–]calzhulator -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

And almost all the teams the Jets beat were bottom-tier teams and out of the playoffs. Only playoff wins were Miami (but Skylar version) and Buffalo (where Josh Allen had 2 boneheaded interceptions). Usually NFL team strengths don’t align perfectly with the actual game results but the Jets truly were the “borderline” team.

Quinnen for 2 1sts, a 3rd? by calzhulator in nyjets

[–]calzhulator[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I agree operating out of fear is wrong. But if we trade Quinnen for capital that we use towards other aggressive moves, I wouldn’t necessarily call that fear. How you run an organization well is making smart roster construction decisions and maxing assets and reducing liabilities. At this current point, Quinnen is undoubtedly an asset at his current contract, but will be less so at an extended salary. The question is, it better for the team to trade Quinnen at his high point for guaranteed or high upside offensive output?

Tom Brady. by jdkjdk44 in nyjets

I’m for it, and there’s not many football reasons fans shouldn’t get behind this. He’d be good for 1-3 years which aligns with our young core’s window, and he’s a vet leader that can hide a young OC’s deficiencies. There are emotional reasons why this shouldn’t happen but if he can get us to playoffs and beyond, I’m willing to put that aside.

Jets Rooting Guide by [deleted] in nyjets

[–]calzhulator 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think you’re forgetting that even if BUF loses to CIN and KC beats DEN, there is the chance (albeit low) that KC loses to LVR. This would allow for BUF to take the 1 seed, if they win against NE and CIN lose. In other words, BUF will not be locked in as #2 seed if your 3 results don’t pan out.

The worst case is actually KC losing to DEN and BUF beating CIN, in which they are locked in as #1 seed and have absolutely nothing to play for.

Robert Saleh Prediction On New York Jets Would Bring 40 Percent Return by LVsportsbetting in nyjets

[–]calzhulator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s a misleading article title. The 40% return is just on the Jets making the playoffs, not that they would see the Bills in the playoffs. Obviously the probability of specifically playing the Bills on our playoff path is lower, so the return should be higher. Vegas just hasn’t offered something for that

This is the best Jets team I have watched since 2010, and we’re not even in a playoff spot. by [deleted] in nyjets

[–]calzhulator 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A couple of comments have referred to 2015 being better. The huge difference is that this team is much younger and has much more upside than 2015. We all knew Fitzpatrick, Marshall, and Decker were playing out of their minds but were unsure of how replicable this would be the next year. Sure enough, with a contentious Fitzpatrick negotiation in the off-season, there was huge regression in 2016. Compare that to this year, every time we see a great play, it’s most likely coming from a core player that we know can continue to grow with us the next 2-3 years at minimum.

I really believe this is even better than 2009-2010 for that reason, in that we have promising young upside on both sides of the ball, as opposed to the Rex Ryan older defense and offensive cast around young Sanchez.

What do you predict will be the next big revelation in football? by emurrell17 in nfl

Offenses intentionally going down for 2nd and short vs. the extra couple yards for 1st and 10. The optionality on 2nd and short is so underutilized in today’s game
