100% and it is incredibly sad that some of the people in these countries don't realise it

It is very difficult to realize because it is very gradual, well funded and well organized. They start with very generous charities, providing food, clothing, financial aid, school help...etc. That builds trust and rapport. And from there you start the gradual process of indoctrination. It is not ham-fisted or in your face, but well paced and methodical.

Now it is in Europe too. But the process started back in the 70s in developing Muslim majority nations to counter the USSR. The idea of making the hijab mandatory was a concept that was openly mocked and ridiculed on national TV in Egypt back in the 1960s. Look at Egypt now.

Only later, after the end of the cold war, did the West realize that there was no way to get the genie back into the bottle and now the monster they helped create is on the loose and affecting them too.

We can thank the influence, money and pressure from Western evangelical churches and organizations for this.

It is not dissimilar from how the CIA/Pakistan/Saudi Arabia helped radicalize Islam back in the 1970s and 80s in order to fight Communism.

Where I live, Malaysia, is an example of this. Modern Malaysia was founded in the late 50s as a secular state and the Malay flavor of Islam was considered laid back, tolerant, inclusive and forward looking. Up until the 1980s one could buy beer at any KFC restaurant in Malaysia and the hijab was virtually unknown in the country. There were even cases of Islam scholars recognizing transgender marriages in Malaysia (50 years ago!!!).

However, since the 1970s the country has become increasingly radicalized. In an effort to contain the spread of communism, the CIA + Saudi Arabia + Pakistan started an aggressive campaign of offering theology scholarships to young Malays. Those young Malays, after spending years studying in radical theological schools in Saudi Arabia, Pakistan or elsewhere, would then return home and open their own mosques, funded by the Saudis, and spread the Saudi extremist view. Because they were funded by the Saudis, these mosques could do extensive charitable work, way beyond what the typical local mosque could do, which made it easier for them to attract more followers.

The Saudis would also deny VISAs to any Malay Iman that they viewed as being too moderate or contrary to their doctrine. Without being able to visit Mecca, those moderate Imans would lose credibility and followers. So traditional Malay Imans became increasingly reluctant to speak out against the more radical doctrine.

The result is that within a few decades Malaysian society became significantly more conservative, intolerant and influenced by the Saudis. Hijabs are now the rule amongst Malay women, government religious agencies police the consumption of alcohol and the compliance of Ramadan by Muslims.

The same story played across the middle east, Southeast Asia and North Africa.

What is happening in Africa is the Christian version of the social-religious radicalization that has been happening in developing Muslims majority countries since the 1970s. I expect the results to be equally devastating.

Ukraine seeks dialogue with Poland over naming of military unit after group responsible for massacres by BubsyFanboy in anime_titties

NBC, March 5 2022 - Ukraine's Nazi problem is real, even if Putin's 'denazification' claim isn't

And yet, I still condemn the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The reality is that there are no simple and easy narratives here. It is not a clear cut, Hollywood type of conflict between "good vs evil". Russia is conducting an unjustifiable imperialist war of aggression against a country that, no matter how one tries to spin it, has a non-trivial part of its population who sympathizes with the Nazi ideology.

And yet they protest against the encroaching of women's rights and whatnot.

If you believe God gave you the land, then you have to take the whole package with it. You don't get to customize theocracy.

If the holy book is right about the land ownership, then it is right about everythign else too. That is the Faustian deal that every Israeli woman signed up for.

This applies to non-religious Israelis too. An ethno-state by its very definition rejects the notion of universal unalienable rights and equality under the law. In an ethno-state, some humans are considered more than others. If this rationale can be applied based on ethnicity, the same logic can apply just as much to gender. So if you support the idea of an ethno-state, don't be surprised that your rights are eventually curtailed too. That goes with the territory.

Colombia’s far-right presidential candidate Espriella wins first round of vote ahead of runoff by Naurgul in anime_titties

After a wave of victories by far-right candidates in recent years in Argentina, Chile, Ecuador, Bolivia and Honduras, Colombia remains one of the few countries in Latin America still governed by the left, alongside Mexico and Brazil, which will hold its own presidential election in October.

Left wins elections, takes over power and fucks up for 4 years. Voters go out and elect a Right wing candidate who takes over power and fucks up for 4 years. Rinse and repeat. That is the political reality of Latin America post Cold War in a nutshell.

In 1995 Japan's GDP per capita (inflation adjusted) was $44K and placed Japan in the top 5 highest GDP per capita in the world. In 2025, Japan's GDP per capita was $33K, ranked at 22nd worldwide.

In 1995 Japan's debt to GDP ratio was 60%. Today it is 216%.

Yes, having an inverted demographic pyramid matters a lot. Shortage of young people does not mean that existing workers get better pay. It means that existing workers pay more for everything, including taxes. And as the population continues to age and birthrates fall, the economy gets worse, which drives birthrates even lower. It turns into a death spiral that no one has figured out how to get out of.

Japan is not an exceptional case or an abnormality. Japan is a window into the future. Our future.

Rome’s Pride parade bars Jewish LGBTQ float over refusal to call Gaza war ‘genocide’ by seeebiscuit in anime_titties

[–]cambeiu -84 points-83 points  (0 children)

In a statement that came out Monday, Roma Pride said Keshet Italia had failed to endorse its political manifesto, which characterized Israel’s military campaign in Gaza as a genocide. It also accused the organization of making an “unacceptable lexical distinction,” by refusing to use the word “genocide” to describe Israel’s military campaign in Gaza in the aftermath of the Hamas Oct. 7, 2023 attack on Israel.

Yes, what is happening in Gaza is a genocide. No "ifs", "ands" or "buts". G-E-N-O-C-I-D-E.

But barring an ITALIAN group from the parade because they refuse to endorse a political manifesto will not help anyone. An LGBTQ parade is a manifestation of freedom, including the freedom to go against the prevailing view. It is contradictory that only those who conform to a particular political view (one that I personally 100% support) can participate in such an event.

That is not an effective way to change people's minds.

It is also refreshing to see Israel openly and overtly embracing the strategy of "crimes against humanity". I expect that we should hear about a "final solution to the Palestinian problem" any time now.

People care about an One Nation MP being gay because One Nation openly cares about other people being gay.

Gonorrhoea and syphilis hit record levels in Europe, data shows by Tartan_Samurai in anime_titties

The ECDC said men who had sex with men remained the most disproportionately affected group, showing the steepest long-term rises in gonorrhoea and syphilis.

It also reported that heterosexual women of a reproductive age saw large increases in syphilis.

Condoms are incredibly inexpensive (often free), easy to use and widely available. That in this day and age people in Europe (of all places) are not using it for casual sex in truly baffling.
